  1. Bass going on the DL. James Norwood being called up. Bryant and Duensing going to Tennessee for rehab assisgnments
  2. With the off day next Thursday and the ASB afterwards, any chance they skip Chatwoods spot this week? I know Joe errs toward the side of the extra day of rest but if there was ever a logical spot to skip a rotation spot this would be it.
  3. That is certainly...a transaction
  4. This is completely random and only a little related to the game but I just realized the Cubs are in the middle of a month long stretch of 20 straight games without on starting between 6-8 PM central time. Seems insane to go that long without an evening game (that doesn’t start at 9). Streak started during the Saturday game of that disaster in Cincinnati and will end the first game after the All star break in 12 days.
  5. Javy now hitting .294 with an OPS just below .900 and is on pace for 32 HR and 119 RBI this year. He’d better make the All star team in some capacity
  6. Who are you replacing him with? At least with Triple A starter you might get Jon Koronka like lightning in a bottle before teams start to get a book on him. The worse case scenario is Underwood or someone constantly gets into trouble and gives up a lot of runs which...is pretty much what Chatwood does
  7. Who are you replacing him with? Literally anyo-OH MY GOD, IT'S YOU. This is the funniest damn bit ever; you horsefeathering hate everything about the Cubs except the things that everyone else is fed up with. I couldn’t find a good way to sum that up in the past. You my friend nailed it
  8. Bulls already matched....
  9. I wanted to bring him back. I’m not sold on him but I think he is better than he played so close to his ACL surgery. $20m a year is too much for me though
  10. Man we crushed the horsefeathers out of Iglasias. Oh well.
  11. I hope its not the start of another one of our fun little funks.
  12. seems like whenever we get a runner on today we start peppering ground balls at their IFs
  13. Montgomery, even when he's like this, is still pitching around what I would have expected/hoped if the Cubs ended up needing him to replace someone, or if they went with a 6-man rotation. The problem is that the rest of the rotation is broken, absurdly lucky, terrible, and a couple of guys who are shooting to be average at best. If Yu can come back and finally remember who is and Lester somehow keeps it up, that's not so bad, but I still have to think that they need to go out and get another starter. Yeah, that sucks given how much is already tied up in who they have, but the rotation right now is set up to shoot the dick off of any real playoff chances outside of, "well, hey, ANYONE can happen to get hot just in time for the postseason!" Hendricks and Quintana ideally can and will turn it around, but they're really not showing any indications of doing so. Again, Q had been mostly quite good since May. I don’t get what you are seeing in him “not showing indications of being good.” In 12 starts since May 1: 1 start longer than 6 innings 3.60 ERA .759 OPS against .280 BABIP which is above league average by a bit 26% LD% which is really high I'm not sure what his WAR is in those 12 starts, but for the year he's been worth just 0.5 wins which is 68th among the 77 starters to throw at least 90 innings this year. I mean yeah 3.60 ERA for a 4th starter is fine but just on quick glance it looks like he's getting lucky and he can't pitch deep into games. He hasn't missed a start all season and yet he hasn't thrown enough innings to qualify for the ERA title. We really need someone to occasionally throw more than 6 innings because the bullpen is always throwing out Bass or Farrell or some other made up reliever because the 4 good ones are either used too much or are injured. edit: Also please feel free to find stats that dispute my assertion, I just picked a couple that jumped out at me and didn't do a deep dive.
  14. Just going off watching Reds/Cubs games, I assume Hamilton will be leading off for the NL All Stars later this month?
  15. Well his has become Euro '18
  16. I came into the season thinking I'd feel reasonably confident every game with our staff. Now I find myself bracing for the Monty-Chatwood portion of the rotation (at least since Monty turned back into a pumpkin) Also it shows how high my expectations are that complain in a game where the opponent scored 3 runs in 5 innings. Not a great start at all but he hasn't gotten shelled either.
  17. We should get 5 starters at the deadline, maybe 2 of them will work out
  18. Gah, try to get out of this giving up 2 runs or less please
  19. Nice work Cardinals FO!
  20. ASG voting ends at midnight tonight. According to MLB.com, Willson has passed Posey for starting NL Catcher. I know some people want the Cubs to rest, but please vote in Willy, he needs to get in just to piss off Molina. Willson's lead is about 12k votes. Javy has also gone from about 300k back on Monday to slightly more than 100k back today. Also this dude has been projecting AS teams weekly for awhile. Somehow he managed to REMOVE Javy from the game over the past week
  21. This is what he does. He keeps guys rested in July to the detriment of the team that day so that they are strong in Sept-Oct. since our starters only go 5-6 innings the pen has been used a lot
