Having the DH is a perfect chance to give Willy a rest behind the plate but keep his bat in the lineup. Would have liked to have seen Happ sit, Contreras at DH, Schwarber in LF, Heyward in CF, Zobrist in RF. At least Bote is in there.
Yeah...cant remember where but last weekend I saw an article about NL MVP Candidates and there were 5 names listed and Javy wasnt one of them. It was like Carpenter, Adenado, Freeman, Cain and someone else.
Javy leads the NL in SLG at .594. This is the highest SLG% (qualified) for a Cub since Lee had a ridiculous .662 SLG in 2005. The next closest was Lee's .579 in 2009. Insane.
Fun fact: Rich Harden's 71 IP with the Cubs in 2008 that we remember as being so dominant is more or less Yu's career numbers over 800 more innings from a Ks, BBs, FIP standpoint. In short, I like Yu Darvish and hope he's healthy soon. I remember him being good but could only go 5-6 innings max. So basically he'd be our ace this year.
splitting no series is really horsefeathering bad. it's baseball. come on already. there's literally no sample of 4 games that can be considered really horsefeathering bad, no matter what the results. no 4 game sample is some referendum on a baseball team or something. especially not one that was split. It's ok to not be satisfied with a 4 game split at home against a team that came into the series 2-16 in their last 18 games, then you consider the fact that we were outscored by 7 runs in the series and just overall didn't pitch or hit particularly well. I would think its fair to say its bad, but at the same time doesn't really tell us a whole lot about the teams in general because like you said its just 4 random games that happened to be played poorly.
Not celebrating as much as relieved we won’t lose ground to them today. Obviously they’ve been playing like horsefeathers but they’ve also played at lot better at times this year and will again Plus we are literally missing our best hitter, potentially best starter (based on how the others have pitched) and best reliever right now
