  1. He sort of did in that one game against the reds but that was after he already gave up like 5 runs
  2. So much for the building an invincible bullpen thing. If you cant even hold 3 run leads in the 8th and 9th innings against the weak hitting Padres...
  3. Come on Strop, why can't anything be easy?
  4. Theo must see something redeeming in the numbers, or the rest of baseball knew how fluky his season was, because yeah that would have been the perfect time to sell high.
  5. If pretty much any other player in baseball just did that that team's fans would be in hysterics about that slide. For fans of Javy its like 'yep that's our Javy'
  6. Wow that was so close to the Padres taking the lead
  7. Fun fact: Duensing’s FIP is one run worse. Fact: I cant believe its not higher than that
  8. Joe seems way more obsessed with L/R splits than he has in the past
  9. I can't quite put my finger on whats been ailing the offense lately. I guess it seems like we're not getting a lot of hard contact and even a lot of our hits have been soft contact. As much as we joke about Chili Dongs, this team is comprised of dongsmiths and its disappointing so see us struggle to hit for power.
  10. This bot thinks that strike 3 should have been ball 4 (although the picture looks like a strike to me)
  11. wow that was an awful call for strike 1 to Happ. That could dramatically change the game because it looked for sure like that AB was gonna end in a walk if he had to throw 3 straight strikes.
  12. The umpire reasoned that there is no way Rizzo actually made a heads up baserunning play so time had to have been called.
  13. LMAO that the horrible challenge comes back to hurt them.
  14. The key is that Joe won't be able to use Duensing in mid-game key matchups against LHB
  15. Or, considering he’s been hitting well there, they could just keep him in that spot. Unless there's some kind of leadoff spot-exclusive sorcery involved in Rizzo not being terrible, it would probably behoove them to not having a guy who went .293 .394 .478 .873 last month not hitting right after the damn pitcher's spot more often than not. He says he's comfortable hitting there. Impossible to quantify the impact, if any, of that but considering every time we put him there he seems to rake, I'm fine with it. I'm more sick of seeing Heyward hitting 3rd. He's starting to hit like old Heyward again (.635 OPS last 13 games) and even if he settles into something inbetween torrid hot Heyward and 2016-2017 Heyward that's not really worth hitting in the top 6 of the order.
  16. Yeah at some point you have to accept that we are in an actual fight for the division and need to prioritize best players over optimal rest. I’m not convinced we are quite there yet. We’re going through a poor stretch which we will get past soon enough
  17. Trying to rank these in terms of likelihood of coming true at this point 1. Javy learns how to walk a little and hit RHP better and unlocks superstar potential. 2. Rizzo or Bryant have sub-2 win seasons (would have said before the season that this was least likely especially if it wasn't due to injury) 3. Contreras leads the team in WAR (he probably won't pass Javy but he's number 2 on the team) 4. Almora puts it together vs RHP and puts out a 4+ WAR season (he hasn't put it together but ignoring obvious regression that is occuring is hitting .288 with a .714 OPS vs RHP which isnt awful for the bad side of the platoon and is on pace for about 3 WAR) 5. Ian Happ becomes a young-Zobrist-like WAR monster with 30+ HR power (won't happen due to playing time but he's made strides) 6. Lester has a huge bounceback and leads the team in fWAR (by performance). (He is not going to lead the team in fWAR but he's leading the starting rotation (though by default). Either way he has had a bounce back for now) 7. Schwarber breaks out and hits for enough average to put up a .950 OPS. (won't have a .950 OPS but has been a fairly stable presence despite recent slump and could have made the all star game...sort of like breaking out) 8. Lester pitches himself out of the rotation (if the regression monster ramps it up but due to the ineffectiveness of the staff as a whole is almost certainly not going to pitch bad enough) 8a. Hendricks pitches himself out of the rotation/Monty steps in (pretty much on level with Lester) 10/11. Darvish finishes top 2 in Cy Young/Chatwood figures it out (not going to happen)
