We are not playing good baseball during the period where we are supposed to surge because Joe keeps his guys fresh the first 4 months of the year. Sucks and hopefully it’s just a bad run of play

Yeah, I'm not arguing he's been good or anything. Whatever word you want to use. I said decent. You said mediocre. We can go with that. I think he's good enough to give us 5 innings and keep us in a game in October. (And I think he can get better, since he's been better his whole career.) Mainly, he hasn't been hit as hard since around mid-May and the results (ERA) have been better. His exit velocity numbers and batted ball data looked really bad at the start of the year. Since then, it's mostly been the walks, which have stayed around all year. Not forgiving the walks, because they are bad, but he can survive with our defense if he isn't getting hit hard. It’s just crazy that what you described above is the starter we feel best about right now on a team with the best record in the NL

To be fair, I'm pretty sure 2018 Cole Hamels is our best starter now. But hey, all they have to do is just get to the playoffs. It's not like they didn't look like a pile of garbage last year and barely beat the horrendously mismanaged Nats in a hideous, hideous serious. Yeah but in that first round series I think Hendricks in game 5 was the only start that wasn’t excellent. I guess maybe it would be the opposite and the offense carries the series

Since I’m feeling negative I’ll point out that this starter has made 16 starts and 14 of those starts have been 5.2 IP or less, and the 2 that were longer were exactly 6 IP. He’s at 51 through 4 so we might see him break that ceiling today against our slumping offense
