  1. *checks Descalso's OPS since, well, any date you want to measure it from* Nope. Doesn't make me feel any better. Not so fun fact! Descalso went 8-16 to start the year with a 1.279 OPS. Since then, he's at .148/.262/.219. Yeah I wasn't considering it from a 'we replaced useful utility guy with human garbage' perspective. Just that we didn't let some dude toil on our bench for 4 years and then watch him immediately turn into an all star after getting rid of him.
  2. Looking at the box score from this game. If this makes anyone feel better, Seal Boy’s OPS for the season is now lower than his OPS in 2017 for the Cubs .726 OPS since Mid-May
  3. No apology necessary. I deserve most of the flack I take. I know no one wants to read my over the top hysterics so I will try to cut back on it. It’s all out of love for this team, which we all share. This was so me about 10 years ago. Knew it was annoying the board but couldn’t stop myself from hysterics when things were going wrong. Now I contain my freak outs to a couple of times a season
  4. Over the last 2-3 now I can remember when they got hot and we have people acting like they’re a thing The difference is that they have been playing well all year just incredibly unlucky in close games early on. Last year they did get hot after their awful 3-18 start but they were always awful and their pitching staff was really really bad. This year statistically their pitching is among the best in baseball and they have a number of quality bats. I’m not saying the Reds are likely to win the division but I think they are good enough to. They’d be 3.5 games out of first if they win today with a RD really close to the Cubs for the season (albeit skewed a little bc the Cubs just got blown out). The Cubs are something like 18-23 over their last 41 games and the Brewers and Cardinals have been treading water most of the season. I expect the Cubs to play better and probably Milwaukee but I don’t think it would be stunning if the Reds managed to win the division.
  5. Surprised Rizzo is batting. Usually Joe likes off days to be completely off for the batter unless absolutely necessary
  6. The Reds truthing never gets old, they do this every year. I like how we have to act like they exist. Yeah but this year they are actually good
  7. Q’s season ERA has gone up 2/3rds of a run today. From 3.87 to 4.50
  8. Cubs now have 3 starters with ERAs above 4.13
  9. You know you don’t have to give up a run every inning Q
  10. So 2-6 road trip, come home and go 2-3 to start against a couple of sub-.500 teams if we can’t come back today, then deGrom tomorrow and what is possibly the hottest team in baseball coming to town for 4 to start the week, then go on the road to face another red hot team in Cincinnati
  11. The Quintana trade will basically give us 2 losses this week
  12. 1st and 2nd, no outs and 2-0 counts on the 3rd batter 2 innings in a row and 0 runs scored
  13. The good news is, road cubs would have been swept
  14. I wish I was cool enough to have posted “I bet the Cubs get 2 outs and then give up a back breaking hit” before all this happened
  15. I just wish this type of stuff could stay relatively consistent. It takes me like 1-2 years for me to recalibrate what are good numbers and what are bad and by the time I do it changes again
  16. Speaking of our pen, Dallas Kuechel is starting for the Braves tonight. How did he get ready quicker than Kimbrel?
  17. That hit brings Monty's line against lefties this year to: .520/.536/.958/1.494 in 28 PA Edit: BTW, for his career Monty has a lower OPS allowed against RHB than LHB.
  18. is it just me or has monty been under the radar terrible this season? Working mostly as a 1-2 inning reliever, he's only had 2 appearances this year where he hasnt allowed a baserunner, and both of those outings he pitched for 0.1 IP. Fails us again there.
  19. Would absolutely love to see Yu with another great outing coming off the Dodgers game last weekend.
  20. Was really interested to see the general national media take on the Bears this year after losing Fangio, swapping Amos for Dix, and not having a kicker in place (prob not a big deal but national media loves pouncing on that crap) Anyways happy to come cross Athlon's predictions published earlier this month and they are predicting the Bears losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl next year. https://athlonsports.com/nfl/athlon-sports-2019-nfl-division-picks-and-playoff-predictions
