  1. Perennially contending Cardinals with 2 playoff appearances in the last 5 seasons, 1 due to a pandemic that gave us 3 extra playoff spots in each league, 1 division title, haven’t gotten within 7 wins of a World Series or 3 games on a pennant Yes I’m being a stickler but screw them
  2. I’ve never watched that one. I think I will now
  3. Not really sure what thread this Twitter story goes in but
  4. Holy horsefeathers, is this guy for real? https://twitter.com/AdamLefkoe/status/1355234085870956553

    Joc

Looking at spray charts from the last 2 seasons, it looks like Joc is even worse
  6. How likely is it Tom played $GME this week? Personally, this reads to me as a Kaplan "cover my ass" move. Or he's very liberally playing with the word "recently." The Cubs clearly aren't spending a ton, and given that reality they were likely always going to wait until A) after the Arb deadline and B) for some of the top tier of FA to sign so they could start seriously engaging with the middle tier. It makes sense but I feel like if this was in any sort of consideration as a plan why would they let guys like Lester, Chatwood, Q go for basically nothing? Lester is not that great anymore but when you are looking at guys like Samardzija and Shelby Miller as rotation pieces, and Lester would have come back for very very little and much of that deferred...seems like an odd move IMO.

  8. Wonder which Cubs FO person slipped that to Duquette
  9. I was trying to figure out what is the most Bears outcome to this situation and figured it was either giving up too much for Darnold or acquiring Wentz without any relief for his salary factored in. But I don't think Wentz is going anywhere now so the second most likely may be Pace bidding against himself and somehow giving Mitch 3 years with no cap relief in years 2 and 3.
  10. Tampa Bay’s sports year: -Lightning win Stanley Cup -Rays make World Series -Buccaneers make Super Bowl (played in Tampa!) -Raptors move to Tampa for a year
  11. The 2 losses to GS and OKC were ridiculously improbable based on where they were late in games. If they win those games they are 9-6. Amazing what a decent coach can do
  12. that sucks but literally the only reason I ever tuned in was to watch NHL games.
  13. Lot of baseball legends have died recently...this one hits me the hardest. RIP Hammerin Hank
  14. It should certainly be an interesting experience playing the Lions 2x a year
  15. Im so sick of the Cubs organization being embarrassed in every way possible. I miss the days when my biggest gripe was Dusty saying that walks clog up the bases. Can't prove that the FO outside of that one employee knew about this but I highly doubt this was an isolated incident and he was a complete professional at all other times.
  16. I'm seeing a lot of pissed off Cubs fans on social media. I can't be the only one here that had no desire seeing Lester pitch in 2021 on the Cubs. 2015-2018 were awesome and he's one of the best free agent signings in Cubs history and Chicago sports history but it's pretty clear he was done in 2019 and completely done in 2020. I get that people are pissed with everything the Cubs are doing at this point but I can't get there with this move and there will be time to mend fences with Jon and welcome him back when he's done. Apparently he was pretty set on returning to the Cubs, asking for $5m a year at the start of the offseason and again going back to the Cubs and asking them to come close to what the Nationals were about to give him and the best they could come up with (according to Gordo) was somewhere around $2m a year. You wonder how much of that is the Cubs not being able to afford more and how much of it is the Cubs realizing he’s cooked and making the token effort to resign. I would have been ok with Jon returning for under $5m next season but since clearly we aren’t going to contend I’m at least somewhat excited so see if we can use the magical pitch lab to unearth 1-2 quality starters. May fail miserably but again the ship has sailed on 2021 contention and if we want this to be more of a 2 year retool than a true gut rebuild then we probably shouldn’t be bringing back 37 year old pitchers
  17. In their last 4 quarters plus 5 seconds of playoff football the Browns have been outscored 49-16
  18. Mitch's problem isn't his throws. They're not great but they're NFL-acceptable. His problem is his inability to make the right reads. I'm not sure he could run a QB-run heavy offense because I've never once seem him make the right decision on an option play involving a QB run. Mitch used to have massive issues blowing easyish short throws. That’s the kind of stuff I’m seeing Lamar do now. But I guess thinking back on it, I haven’t seen that as much recently from Mitch. But you are right, RPO are something Lamar seems to do masterfully and Mitch consistently makes the wrong decision on. That and the better athleticism go a long way in explaining why Lamar is a lot more successful
  19. Re: Lamar. He’s been my fantasy QB the last 2 years so I’ve watched a lot of him. I’m honestly not sure if Lamar is a better passer than Mitch. Clearly has him on athleticism and running ability but Mitch is above average there vs Lamars Uber eliteness. With an offense suited for this style of play, I wonder if Mitch would essentially be a poor man’s Lamar Jackson. Sounds weird just typing that
  20. Turned a 22 point lead into a 2 point lead over 5 minutes in the third, got it back to 10 and then blew that lead in the last 1:47. Bulls have scored 1 point in the last 6 mins
  21. We'd probably be in the same position or worse than the Texans this year and we see how that worked out despite Watson being a great QB. But regardless I'd still consider it. Youngish elite QBs are so rare, and unbelievably rare for the Bears. If you have an opportunity to get a guaranteed elite QB I think you have to push for it and hope that you can find a way to rebuild with the limitations. Anyways this would have made a lot more sense if Pace was fired. I don't see him doubling down on his draft gaffe at the possible expense of short term wins. He'd rather build an 8-8 or 9-7 team since that seems to be acceptable for George and Ted.
  22. Wonder if he can still do the job while living in Chicago. I was really looking forward to seeing post-COVID jobless Theo out on the town. but thats awesome, sounds like a good role for him.
  23. So sick of the NBA just being random collections of superstars with no franchise identity anymore. To me the Lakers are the LeBron's, they've just moved from Cleveland and before that Miami. The Clippers are really just a team up between Kawhi and PG. The Nets are a just some random location where Durant, Kyrie and Harden could do a hostile takeover and gut a legitimately fun (though clearly less talented) team. I know there are other teams out there naturally built but for the most part the top contenders are just teams that look like they were put together on a playground. I'm not even sure what I'm complaining about, I hate that I'm getting old enough where I'm complaining about how things arent like they used to be, but I can't control it. It's made me less interested in the NBA (though that enthusiasm would surely come back in the Bulls were good)
  24. This is not good. I think there is a way to sell this decision as the right way to move forward, but they aren't going that at all. I assumed the family was looking for stability after years of constant turnover, but this press conference is really just selling stability for stability's sake. Also: -The bounce back from the 6 game losing streak (against 3 bottom feeding teams) helped George make the decision to keep these guys. In order to bounce back from the 6 game losing streak (against 3 bottom feeding teams) you still had to....lose 6 games in a row. -Called the season an improvement because we made the playoffs, nevermind that we finished with the same record as last year despite a significantly easier schedule and made the playoffs only because they created an extra spot, otherwise we would have missed it by 3 games (2 games plus losing the tiebreaker to the 6 seed). I mean I get that he's trying to sell an unpopular decision by using empty platitudes, but he's choosing the complete wrong tone.
