  6. Love the kids confidence. Hope he backs it up...I suspect he will.
  7. I was just looking at this last night. This may be the toughest schedule anyone has played in the history of football. All the playoff teams. The back and forth home-away schedule. The MNF game on the road before a bye. Playing a team not coming off a bye but only get 2 more days rest than them. Playing a day game the following Thursday after coming off a bye (same thing the Ravens just did and looked horrible the 2nd game). Throw in the fact that the Bears lead the league in the new taunting penalties despite probably having the fewest diva players in the league + the fewest things to celebrate.....and it makes you start to believe in conspiracy theories. #OnlyMyTeams Plus in the NFC so they have 9 road games this year. Yeah its incredibly difficult and seems almost punitive. But hey Fields develops by facing some tough competition, Bears record isn't good enough to keep Nagy, not a bad outcome.
  8. Was just thinking that the Bears kind of get screwed here. Not only do the Bears have one less day off on their bye week, but their opponent, who already had their bye 2 weeks ago, gets an almost bye week because they are playing tonight. So the Bears only get 2 more days of rest than the Ravens. Not a big deal and the season is a wash but in addition to having to play playoff teams in 11 of the first 13 games, the advantage of their bye week is almost completely negated
  9. On the bright side, maybe there was an explanation for why he was so terrible last year. Was his shoulder bothering him in 2020 too?
  10. Oof, not what you want to hear before you begin a 5 game road trip Edit: Woj says he will be out multiple games Edit: Shams says 10 days That would make him miss the next 6 games: @ GS @ LAC @ LAL @ POR @ DEN vs NYK
  11. Anthony Lynn was an offensive HC as well, so likely had a big hand in Herbert's success last year. I guess maybe the difference is that Herbert was lights out immediately while Fields has struggled but you are starting to see some legitimate development.
  12. Are the scorebugs for CBB driving anyone else nuts? It seems like these things go on trends that ll the other networks copy. It started with football but its even worse with basketball because it takes up a wide percentage of the court/field. No one needs the team names in 48 pt font, along with the names of the commentators, a team logo and then a bottom line with other games going on, their spread and the O/U. And then on some like in the NBA they throw up giant advertisements for future ESPN NBA games on it. Who approved these giant oversized scorebugs? Yes I see the irony of these giant images in the same point I'm complaining about oversized graphics and yes I stole this rant from Defector. They were driving me nuts before I saw the article: https://defector.com/scorebug-inflation-must-be-stopped/
  13. A couple things I didn't agree with JT on. 1. He put part of the blame of that Watt unblocked sack on Fields. While he did blame the play design as well, he got on Fields for not getting vertical enough to run away from Watt and for him thinking he can just break the tackle. Sorry, but that was 100% on the design. You can't unblock a guy like Watt for one. The other issue is the other edge guy completely beat Montgomery and would have been there had Fields gotten vertical, which means a bigger loss of yardage. 2. The Mooney TD, he was going on about Fields should have been the one running the wildcat play instead of Montgomery. But the reason that play works is because you have a RB back there with a 165lb WR. They ran that play before and nobody thinks you're going to give the ball to a tiny speed WR when you have a bruising inside runner and are pulling linemen toward the other side. If you have Fields back there with a RB, the defense has to respect that either could run the ball. Agree with 1. For 2 I think that it was part of a larger complaint about the QB run plays the Bears are calling for Fields. I see what you are saying about that specific play but I think he was saying the Bears read option plays were very basic and low ceiling type of designs
  14. If you have 26 mins to spare. I did
  15. I think you can build a fairly solid but unspectacular team avoiding any major long term deals or deals from QO players like option A. Go this route and if the team is doing ok at the deadline maybe you take a shot...or maybe you just wait for guys like Davis to emerge. I want to say go for the stars but its costly and it's not like the NBA where you need to do everything possible to secure superstars and then figure out the rest. While I want to win ASAP I don't think we need to put ourselves into a win now position this offseason. I'm perfectly fine with putting a competitive team on the field and seeing where it takes us while we get one more year of development and data on our prospects.
  16. lol, not that it matters because both will lose to Ohio State but Michigan somehow ranked higher than Michigan State in the CFP rankings. To twist the knife further, they said this: Michigan State fans are going ballistic on Twitter right now.
  17. You have me on ignore dont you?
  18. Is that a legit rumor? I saw someone on twitter talking about this but it was written as if it was an idea they had and not something that was actually rumored. I know that the McCaskey family likes Pace a lot and I'll admit he's done a good bit to modernize the Bears football operations, but I just don't know how it changes anything if he's elevated. Does the new GM have full autonomy over the draft and player moves or would they be Jed to Ryan's Theo? At some point the Bears are going to need draft capital to build around Fields and I think Pace has done a poor job of using his resources efficiently. Because of that, it's hard to look at the Bears future and think that its in good hands with him running the show. He's done a poor jobs of managing resources and hiring head coaches what does that leave? Are these the primary responsibilities of a GM? There are a lot of people that talk up the way he's modernized scouting and facilities while with the Bears. The Bears have drafted better than they did under Emery and Angelo, though it's still not up to par IMO, especially considering the wasted resources. Thus raw's suggestion that he runs Football Operations and hires a GM to do the actual day to day job. But I can't see Pace being in that role and not having a gigantic say in player acquisitions. If Pace wants to trade up for some dude in the draft, he will do so.
  19. I know decisions certainly not made using logic at Halas Hall but I cant believe they would keep Pace. It's his 6th year and the team has holes all over, is cap strapped and little draft capital. It's great that he got Fields, but you need to take advantage of his rookie contract and the guy that wastes ridiculous amounts of resources is not the guy to do that. One rumor going around is that the Bears move Pace up in a director of football operations type of position and potentially hire a GM from within underneath him (Champ Kelly is a popular name here). Part of me really likes this idea. The Bears do actually have a decent scouting department and Kelly is well respected around the league and probably gets some GM interviews this offseason. If the Bears clean house, he won't be jobless for long. Part of me really likes this move. With all going on with a potential new stadium and all Pace has done for the off-field product (Halas Hall), I think some continuity could be a good thing. But also, wouldn't have him as the primary guy selecting his 3rd coach. 20. I think it's TBD if theyre a package deal. I could easily see where Pace is back, in which case I'm sure he'll have full authority to make a move at HC, and I'm sure he would. It's just hard to envision any scenario where Nagy is back. Whether they wait it out til the bitter end or not though, is unknown. Yeah I think this is right. Nagy is gone, short of some miraculous turnaround the second half of this year. Pace is certainly not on the most solid footing, but if it looks like he got it right with Fields he probably sticks around. Lets talk about this miraculous second half for a second. It's not going to happen but... Bears get an extra week off before playing the Ravens at home. Lets say they win that in an upset due to being at home and extra rest. Then they go to Detroit and win. Now they are 5-6. The next 2 are against GB and Arizona. Probably lose both but lets say they split and are 6-7 with some momentum. Their last 4 games are against sub .500 teams after a ridiculously difficult gauntlet in their first 13. I believe its vs. Minnesota, @Seattle, vs. NYG, @ Minnesota. I guess the counter would be that Minnesota is probably the best 3-5 team we've seen in years...they are actually 11th in DVOA. And while Seattle has some holes they will have Russ back and Seattle is always difficult to play. So yeah they are most likely going 5-12 but there's still a small window with improved play lol. What a ridiculous beast of a schedule this year.

  22. I see a lot of people saying this but he was clearly reaching to grab his flag before the contact. Unless you are saying he initiated contact to make the flag he threw more justified? The taunting rule is horsefeathering stupid and should not be used to alter the outcome of games. Yes, he was grabbing for his flag before the contact, but he didn't throw it until he initiated the contact. That says to me he threw it to more justify it. I think he was going to let the sideline stuff go. And I don't really buy that certain calls shouldn't alter the outcome of games. Been 9 weeks, players know the taunting rule. Can't do it with the game in the balance and give a team an automatic 1st down. That being said, I agree in general that the league needs to have as few "judgement call" rules as humanly possible. I know they cant take context into consideration but the dude was cut by the steelers, called off the practice squad that morning, and he was a good 10-15 feet from the sideline. That plus the game being on the line makes it ridiculous. I know refs cant call it based on those things but i mean come on, no one wanted this dumb rule to begin with and now a young player showing a little emotion after the greatest moment of their football career is going to alter the game. I just hate everything about it even if you can justify the penalty as legitimate.
  23. We are seeing the leap.
