    Thank you for not turning this into the Winter Classic and playing in a different rural cornfield each year. I couldn't even tell you where any of the last 5 winter classics were played. Though it seems in this case that its not coming back because of rennovations, so we may see it again in 2024

    Whoever made that comparison between this Cubs team and the tanking Bulls teams of the last half decade is right. They are bad, but not nearly bad enough to lose consistently to other tanking teams. Definitely one of the downsides of not trading Willson, Happ, Smyly, etc. at the deadline. That said, I don't worry about tanking as much in baseball as I do in other sports, even with the draft lottery now in place. Obviously would prefer to have a top 3 pick, but its mildly enjoyable to win even with a team that's going nowhere this year. What I don't want is a situation where beating up on some bad teams leads the FO to believe the Cubs are closer than they really are. I don't think that will be the case...at least I hope not.

    Assuming this is Poles' response to Roquan going public with a trade demand yesterday. I believe Poles put him on the PUP list as a solid so he got paid while they negotiated. Now he's just a hold out not getting paid.

    Definitely. How much fun would a team with Javy, Contreras and Morel be? They'd almost certainly still suck and Javy would be terrible for most of the contract, but we'd have a lot of fun being bad.

    All the sudden? Those have been the storylines and common held beliefs for a year. 0 Pro Bowls, 0 All-Pros. Have seen plenty of articles where he is omitted from list of top 10 linebackers or whatever. It's not completely widespread but I've seen enough rankings where he is underrated that its stuck in my head. Edit: I see now that he was named 2nd team All-Pro last year so maybe the perception finally changed. Took a quick look at 3 top LB lists and see him at 7, 9 and 14.

    Of course, now that Roquan wants out from the Bears all the sudden I'm hearing him called a top 5 player at his position, the best player on the Bears, reached elite status, etc.

    From what I've read, ND is trying to get a raise in their next TV deal with NBC, and NBC sees the Big Ten as having games before and after the traditional 2:30 ND game. The article I read implies this is leverage for ND for some reason. I doubt ND is suddenly joining the Big Ten, but 2 months ago I would have told you its impossible USC and UCLA would join the Big Ten lol Edit: But thinking about it, the Big Ten will now have the following networks to potentially broadcast games: Fox, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network (and BTN2, BTN3...), NBC, Peacock, CBS, CBS Sports Network, Paramount+. There's certainly the infrastructure there if they want to expand to 16, 18, 20 teams and I don't think its an accident.

    I feel like his talent should shine through if he's as good as we hope he is. Wouldn't be the first young QB that has been able to put it together despite crappy offensive infrastructure. It's not like very many elite QBs fail on their first team due to lack of talent surrounding them and then become an elite QB on their 2nd team. If he needs tons of talent around him to be successful, that's fine but he's probably a couple tiers below the elite QBs (think Ryan Tannehill or Alex Smith). If Fields is the guy, we'll have a pretty good idea by the end of this year unless he misses most of the season with injuries. Very few guys have been handed both an awful line and receiver group. One or the other, fine, the great ones will find a way to make it work. This isn’t that situation. I'm just saying, I cannot come up with a great example of 1st round pick that failed with his first team and becomes elite with another team. Brees already had an all-pro caliber season in San Diego. Favre only had 2 starts in Atlanta. Maybe Steve Young, but he became Montana's backup for several seasons before getting another chance to start. If it happens it would be fairly unprecedented IMO. If he's elite I think he will show enough to prove it before the Bears have to make a decision on his option.

    its better than even odds he won’t be on the team by then Right. The most likely scenario is that Fields won’t be the starting QB on the next Bears playoff team. The timing just doesn’t work out. They’re going to have to make a decision on his fifth year option before they even get a chance to see him behind a competent o-line.     With the 5-12 Panthers being today's "Why Your Team Sucks" team of the day, it looks as though the Bears will be tomorrow's team on the Defector. Always an enjoyable read as there is usually a ton of stuff you can talk about. Come on Drew, make it hurt.

    I get that he's doing a teardown and purging the previous FO's guys, but not sure how dumping talent for 50 cents on the dollar is helping the team long term. The Bears hired him to fulfill his vision of building a winning team and we just have to trust that he is doing that, or at the very least go along for the ride and hope it works out. I don't necessarily disagree with the strategy, but I think he's taken it quite a bit farther than most people would.

    For Jenkins? That's what I read, but not from any reputable source. Seems like he's on the block though so interesting thought if Poles wants a WR.

    Wish he didn’t miss a big chunk of the season as he may have been able to adjust more and we could determine whether he’s actually bad.
