  1. Not to mention they've had 4 baserunners since the 4th run scored and haven't pushed another across.
  2. Of course the Cubs would have a chance to clinch with a win, score 4 runs in the 1st before getting an out going against one of the worst offenses in baseball only for our all star ace to completely implode.
  3. Fun fact after the Cubs squander a 2 on, 0 out situation: the Cubs have scored exactly 4 runs in 4 consecutive games
  4. holy horsefeathers this inning is still going? Edit: OK now its over
  5. The force field does its job, Cubs can't convert a 1st and 3rd 1 out opportunity
  6. Certainly seems like the Cubs are interested in clinching a playoff spot today. Lets see if the 4 run force field limits us today.
  7. Yeah the Brewers being on pace for 99 wins makes not winning the division annoying but less frustrating. We mostly took care of business against them (or at least won more than we lost) so not much you can do to affect their season outside of those games. Certainly could have added more in the offseason or the deadline but for most teams its unrealistic to be upset that you didn't win 100 games given all the uncontrollable variables over the course of an MLB season.
  8. No but the Dodgers give me 2017 Cubs vibes. Coming off a World Series title, they know they're gonna make the playoffs, maybe they have to push a little harder late in the season to finish off the division but they'll probably win that. The goal is just to be ready to go when the playoffs start.
  9. At this point, while acknowledging there's still plenty of time for things to change, I'm not counting on Tucker being there for at least the WC round. Maybe we'll get a more positive update in a couple of days but something seems very off about this.
  10. The Cubs clinched based on someone losing in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2020. Only in 2017 did we clinch with a win. I believe in 2015, 2016 and 2018 we had a chance to clinch with a win but lost and relied on help. Hopefully we take the bull by the horns and put this 5 year playoff drought to bed today. From playoff appearances that I remember: -1998 - Clinched with win over SFG (Game 163) -2003 - Clinched with win over PIT -2007 - Clinched with MIL loss to SD -2008 - Clinched with win over STL -2015 - Clinched with SFG loss to OAK -2016 - Clinched with STL loss to SFG -2017 - Clinched with win over STL -2018 - Clinched with STL loss to MIL -2020 - Clinched with PHI loss to WAS Edit: Nevermind on 2016, looked it up...the Cubs clinched a playoff berth in 2016 with a win over STL, but they had a chance to clinch the division later on and lost and clinched with an STL loss to SFG
  11. The Bulls and Bears are both pathetic but the Angels are unique in that they squander generational talent and are never good but inexplicably go for it at the deadline on occasion and hurt their future more.
  12. Damn I was really hoping the Brewers would lose tonight to put some pressure on them down the stretch.
  13. I think there are scenarios where the Cubs end up in a 3 team tiebreaker with Arizona and the Mets that the Cubs haven’t locked in yet so technically they can’t clinch tonight. Like if all 3 teams tied, there’s a possibility that ARI/NYM are WC2 and WC3 and the Cubs are eliminated.
  14. There seems to be this invisible barrier the Cubs have at 4 runs that won’t let them score anymore. Once a week they are given permission to cross that threshold
  15. Of course this is the first inning of Skenes vs Horton also has Willi Castro ever played a ball off the wall before? That was awful and probably cost them a run and Cruz an extra base
  16. I was saying this back when PCA, Tucker and Busch were still good. We weren't as good earlier in the year against LHP but we were still good/above average vs. LHP.
  17. Dont chastise me for this, but I'm a ninny and want to avoid the possibility of losing a playoff series to the Brewers. I was completely fine with facing the Cardinals in 2015 even though I still hate them more, but for some reason can't handle the idea of losing to the Brewers. It's inarguable that it's the preferable matchup though over the Phillies. They're are a tough matchup for us.
  18. This seems bad for Swift
  19. Yeah I watched that awhile ago. Really cool of Jordan to volunteer to be interviewed for it.
  20. Looking at the tiebreaker with SD, Cubs are 25-18 (.581) vs the Central and Padres are 29-20 (.590) vs West. Cubs have 9 games left against division foes (2 at PIT, 4 at CIN, 3 vs STL) and Padres just 3 left (at ARI) But we’re getting down to a number of games left where if the Cubs collapse they aren’t gonna win the tiebreaker anyways, and if they get hot and win the tiebreaker they are finishing ahead of SD.
  21. New high water mark! Still struggling to break the 4 run ceiling but finding ways to win
  22. Bottom of the 9th, Hodge has gotten into a jam and the broadcast team is yucking it up about some skyscraper in downtown Pittsburgh
