  1. looks like another fun day of nothing for AKME
  2. Octavio Dotel and Gaylord Perry are 2 other good ones. And for hitters Rickey Henderson and Matt Stairs.
  3. The Reds have been criticized for spending the last couple of years, but they've been able to operate at a payroll much higher than where they are at now. They still have a pretty good farm system even with recent graduations. What this run could do is turn them into buyers at the deadline. Not sure if they'll go crazy, but they'll be able to fortify the pitching at least somewhat.
  4. They have to have figured something out during this run. 19-6 over 25 games and it's not just bad teams, they took 3 of 3 from the Cubs, 2 of 3 from Boston, 2 of 3 from LAD, and 3 of 3 from Houston during this span. Obviously they aren't going to win 80% of their games going forward but with the deadline coming up I wouldn't be surprised if they upgraded their pitcher and ended up winning the division.
  5. Cubs sweep! Unfortunately, the Reds also got their 11th straight win this afternoon so no more ground gained. Good thing we got hot though otherwise we'd be firmly in the 'sell' camp at this point.
  6. The only thing you don't want to do in this situation is walk guys. Merryweather went to 3 balls on the first hitter and then walked the next 2.
  7. I got 7 of 9 today, also struggled with the 40 save pitchers. I spent like 5 minutes trying to think of the name of the Orioles closer that Showalter didnt put in during the 2014 Wild Card game even though I clearly know who it is (duh Zach Britton) before I gave up and guessed Jim Johnson and got it right. Can't believe I forgot about Mark Melancon. Wasn't even close on a Mariners closer. Struggled with Rangers/Pirates too before my Cubs infected brain finally gave me Steve Buechelle.
  8. https://www.immaculategrid.com/ Fun game I just discovered but seems to have been around for a bit. Each day there's a 3x3 grid with various qualifiers going down the first column and across the first row. You have to find a player that matches both qualifiers. For example, today's grid is:
  9. WTF was that Mancini? Bases loaded 2 outs, he fields a ground ball and as he's running he bobbles the ball then tries to flip it to Leiter for the out. Leiter collides with the runner and drops the ball, everyone is safe. Net result: Bases still loaded, 5 run lead down to 3, possibly injured key relief pitcher
  10. He was cruising coming into the inning and had a low pitch count. gave up a well placed ground ball single and a HBP. I was ok with letting him try to get the next batter.
  11. Quiet you with your underlying numbers 😄
  12. Hendricks live season ERA after the 6th: 2.62. We still certain the Cubs don't pick up his option?
  13. Can't believe this is only Rich Hill's 5th career regular season start against the Cubs....feels like he's started more than that, but does also have 2 postseason starts against the Cubs as well. In those 8 games (7 starts, 1 relief appearance), he has a 1.98 ERA against the Cubs. Guess I'm saying its a good thing the Cubs have managed to get 3 runs off him so far
  14. I wouldn't be shocked if he played after 3 days rest if its just minor. Dansby played 382 out of 384 games the 3 seasons prior to this one so he clearly wants to be in the lineup even if he's a bit banged up.
  15. Well at least Madrigal has a new found penchant for drawing HBP's. But seriously that really sucks
  16. Seems to have lost his command a bit in the 7th unfortunately. If he finishes this inning it his will probably be his last
  17. OK, here is my list. I'm including past and present stadiums. I grade them roughly like this: Atmosphere - 60% Aesthetic - 25% Neighborhood/Misc - 15% I don't care about food options or how easy it is to find a bathroom or whatever. Just going off the level of enjoyment I had at the game and how nice the park was. 1. Wrigley Field 2. Oracle Park 3. Fenway Park 4. Old Yankee Stadium 5. Camden Yards 6. Old Comiskey Park 7. Kauffman Stadium 8. Guaranteed Rate Field 9. Nationals Park 10. Chase Field 11. Miller Park 12. Great American Ballpark 13. Qualcomm Stadium (SD) 14. Angels Stadium 15. Metrodome 16. Olympic Stadium (could have been influenced by my 19 year old self being able to buy tons of cheap beer) 17. County Stadium (MIL) 18. Memorial Stadium (BAL) There are also about 7-8 ballparks that I've literally walked around the perimeter of and peeked into the park but they weren't in town while I was, but I especially loved walking around Petco Park and Minute Maid Park, not as much Citizen Bank Park and Dodger Stadium (both surrounded by miles of parking lots)
  18. Is it just me or have we seem a lot of wide zones lately? Almost feels like umps have collectively decided to expand the strike zone by a couple of inches just for fun.
  19. Including bases loaded line drives hit by the Pirates that go directly to a Cubs fielder.
  20. Nice piece of hitting by Tauchman to give the Cubs the lead. Assist to the random rain that clearly bothered Bido
  21. Nice hit by Gomes to put 2 on with 2 outs. Unfortunately the designated pitcher is due up
  22. Seems like an odd time to go over the luxury tax. I mean it’s strange to complain about never going over and then complain about possibly going over but I’m dubious that JR suddenly decided to win at all costs.
  23. Yeah basically teams will decline to draft anyone until they get to a round that they feel comfortable giving up their pick in. The Bears will just have 1st choice in each round. So if teams peg him as a 5th round pick, the Bears can grab him with the first pick in that round, but it’s possible a team in the 4th round decides it’s worth the risk and grabs him
