I obviously know this is sarcasm, but it reminded me of a crazy stat I saw today. Mahomes average air yards per TD pass last year was 4.5 yards

For fun, here are upcoming schedules after this series: Cubs: 2 vs. CWS 3 vs. KC 3 @ DET 4 @ PIT 3 vs. MIL Reds: 2 vs. CLE 3 vs. TOR 3 @ LAA 4 @ ARI 3 @ SF MIL: 3 @ LAD 3 @ TEX 2 vs. MIN 3 vs. SD 3 @ CHC MIA: 3 vs. HOU 3 @ LAD 3 @ SD 3 vs. WAS 2 vs. TB So basically all our competitors have pretty damn tough schedules coming up while the Cubs get to play the dregs of the AL and NL Central. Nothing is written in stone but the schedules REALLY play out in our favor the next couple of weeks.

Marlins win 3-1 so they’ll remain 0.5 back. With the Reds rainout the Cubs will end the night in sole possession of WC3. The Cubs have also I believe equaled their high water mark at 5 games over .500, last reached way back in April when they were 11-6

At this point i think you consider Merryweather for a 2nd inning if the Cubs don’t score in the 9th

Yeah I don’t think you can’t both pull your starter early AND pull your middle relievers early when they are pitching well for matchup purposes. Especially in a 1 run game where the chances of being in a tied game late are decent.

If they save Alzolay for a potential save, relievers left for the 9th (unless Merryweather goes 2) are Wesneski, Kilian, Smyly and Palencia edit: I see others are making this point too lol

Wonder if Cuas was the plan in this one or forced into it because Ross blew 2 of his higher leverage relievers in the 6th (yes I’m admitting Fulmer is back on the fringes of that circle) good opportunity for him to gain more confidence

No probably not, seems weird to pull your starter early and then start pulling your top relievers early for matchup purposes in the 6th inning.

2 strikes to Schneider who doubles, 2 strikes to Biggio who walks, 2 strikes to Espinal who doubles. Meanwhile we went to at least 3 balls to 5 of the 7 hitters in the inning.
