  1. Guaranteed to be at least .500 and no more than 5.5 games behind the NL Central leader (if the Dodgers get 2 more outs vs Reds) at the deadline
  2. Palencia makes me a bit nervous. Who else is in the pen if he gets into trouble?
  3. I was bored and my kids wanted to go to a baseball game so we’re at the Sox game. Someone saw me checking the Cubs score and they said “horsefeathers you Cubs fan” so I guess the rivalry is alive and well for White Sox fans
  4. We can hit old man Waino so leave the damage to a minimum. Maybe Wesneski has something left in his arm lol
  5. Braves scored 6 on the Brewers in the 1st. Another chance to gain ground maybe
  6. If you have a chance to make the playoffs selling is a terrible look especially if you are trying to lure someone like Ohtani who would be looking to move somewhere that is not stuck in the same position as the Angels have been. Not ideal to lose Stroman or Bellinger for nothing and yes the Cubs are not going to win the World Series this year. Next week we might find ourselves in a much more precarious situation with a down week but if you want to be looked at as a serious franchise you don’t trade away your 2 best players when you are 3.5 games out of the playoffs. All for more 40 FV prospects? Would the Yankees or Dodgers sell off those guys in a similar position? I doubt it. They’d add or stay put and if their FA left they’d go sign or trade for new players to replace them.
  7. When the Cubs were still struggling it felt like the reports were suggesting Jed was looking for a reason to buy. Now that the Cubs are red hot and climbed back into it, I'm seeing reports that the Cubs are on the fence between buying and selling and I just don't see selling as a direction is possible at this point. I can understand like trading a Stroman for other pieces that can help this year, or I can understand doing nothing, but can you imagine the backlash from both fans and the players if they traded Stroman and Bellinger for prospects while the team is on a 9-1 run, has moved over .500 and are now only 3.5 games out of a playoff spot? I suppose they can lose the next 3 and be 6.5 games out at the deadline, but even if they go like 1-2, selling would be a terrible look even if there's logic behind it imo.
  8. Happy Madrigal is back since he was hitting so well before he went down, but also petrified that being out a month turned him back into bad Madrigal
  9. Sabathia was 2008. But yeah I can see similar vibes. They don't seem like a complete team yet but it may be good enough to win a mediocre NL Central.
  10. None of them really count. Peavy and Roberts were both attempted trades and there’s no reason to believe they weren’t genuinely trying to acquire them. Harper there was a lot of smoke but I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a single report about the Cubs attempting to speak with him during FA. The right reference I guess would be Carlos Beltran. When he was a FA after 2005 I’m pretty sure there were reports about the Cubs being interested and speaking to Beltran but they were clearly never going to actually sign him.
  11. Of course he would. Who wouldn’t want an attraction will will ensure 40k+ in the seats and more Marquee subs even if the Cubs suck because they spent all the money they are comfortable spending on Ohtani
  12. Really looking forward to getting back to multi-page arguments between people emotionally overreacting to the game and people complaining about people emotionally overreacting to the game.
  13. Speaking of the Fields to DJ chemistry, holy horsefeathers
  14. Nice OLP reference, wasn’t expecting that 😂
  15. Giants lose to the Red Sox which I believe means the Cubs will finish the night 3.5 GB the Wild Card. Reds are leading the dodgers 6-5 in the 8th. If the Dodgers come back, the cubs would still be 3.5 GB but the Marlins would jump back into WC3 over the Reds arizona lost to Seattle and fall 1 GB the final WC, and 2.5 ahead of the Cubs
  16. xBA of the 4 batted balls by the Cardinals in the 9th: .630 .430 .490 .490
  17. I don't necessarily subscribe to the belief that the White Sox are a rival, but I consider them a team you want to beat more than most. But if you consider them a rival, a 7 game winning streak consisting entirely of beating your rivals is quite fun.
  18. So basically I fucked every detail up other than the Cubs robbing a HR for the win lol
  19. This didn't clinch a division but very reminiscent of Jon Jay in 2017. I believe that would have been a walkoff loss if it wasn't caught that time too. Edit: wait maybe it wasn't Jon Jay
  20. STOP THE COUNT At 9:59pm CST on 7/28/23, the Cubs went back over .500
  21. Yeah that was madrigal, they mentioned on the broadcast that he'll be activated soon, probably tomorrow
  22. Adbert got hit pretty good in the 9th but the Cubs D saved him
