  1. Damn, dude is good enough, doesn’t need an extra 4 inches of strike zone
  2. Wow optioned to AAA? Figured he’d be someone they’d have in the majors right away
  3. Edit: Fudge, I was beaten, do what you want with this. I know this is already being talked about in the deadline thread but figured a seperate topic since its a transaction the Cubs made. I'll miss you Nelson, thanks for that grand slam against Seattle.
  4. Rucker is already in Iowa. I don’t know about Fulmer, they seem to like him and he’s largely fixed many of his early season issues, though control is a concern. I would guess someone like Kay, Assad or Palencia. Brad Boxberger (remember him?) has already resumed throwing and will take up another roster spot, but not sure how far away he is.
  5. I think I read that the Cubs were like $5m under the luxury tax. Candelario has a contract for $5m. Does that put them over, or are we only looking at adding 2 months worth of $5m for lux tax purposes?
  6. I mentioned this in the other thread but Candelario's 3.1 fWAR this year would be second on the Cubs (position players and pitchers). While historically he hasn't been anything special defensively, for whatever reason this year he's grading highly. Good move and low cost.
  7. I'm guessing the Cubs don't want to eat $7 million next year by getting rid of Mancini, and hope he can bounce back next season but who knows. He's not exactly making a compelling case right now.
  8. Yeah, it would probably be Amaya sadly. Don't think they're completely ready to give up on Wisdom yet, doubt they'd just cut Tauchman loose either, Mancini (and Barnhart - another name) are signed through next season, and Madrigal has been hitting well enough to stay on the roster. I wouldn't be shocked if it was Wisdom though. Certainly acquiring another 3B makes his roster spot tenuous
  9. Can't remember if Loxas has sources but he tweeted:
  10. I know, just letting you know there is/was a broader conversation going on about it in another thread if you wanted to check it out. Unfortunately I'm not lazy enough to respond to you but I am too lazy to find the thread lol. It was a discussion within the last 2 days.
  11. To add to the report: Kap said it would likely cost the Cubs "2 mid-level prospects" for Candelario
  12. more Candelario reports:
  13. Yeah I don't understand why people hate it prior to knowing the cost of acquiring him. He provides offense and defense at a major position of need. His 3.1 fWAR this year would be 2nd on the Cubs behind only Dansby Swanson who is at 3.3. His splits are worse vs. LHP this year but over his career they are better than his splits against RHP
  14. Nah...there are like 3 pages of discussion about this in one of the deadline threads. I don't agree with punting on a chance to make the playoffs. At some point this team needs to look like a serious baseball franchise, especially if they are actually going to try to sway Ohtani this offseason. While I get that some people want to maximize every asset in likely non-WS winning seasons, I believe that sometimes it's okay to risk a player leaving for nothing. Teams do it all the time. This is a situation where its ok to let it ride and see if this team can make a run
  15. So their 19th and 29th best prospects and an established ML player that was worth ~3 wins last year but has been pretty terrible this year.
  16. FWIW the Cubs did release a lineup for tonight and Stroman is on it as the starting pitcher.
  17. No, why would we? We're basing our opinions on what we know now which is that the team is 3.5 games out of a playoff spot, has played over .500 baseball every month except May and has a top 5 RD in baseball. Is it very possible they fall flat over the next 2 weeks and fall out of the race? Sure it's a risk.
  18. So Andrew Abbott has made 10 ML starts. 7 of them he's allowed 0 or 1 ER (and at least 6 IP in all except 1), 2 he's allowed 2-3 ER and 1 he got lit up (4.1 IP, 6 ER) Yikes, tough road tonight
  19. It's funny because I've seen as many of these types of trades this year between teams still in the hunt as I've seen pure selling types of trades.
  20. The return would include players who help fill holes this year and have more control beyond this year. You are right you can't trade your ace and have people believe you are trying to win this year, but that's the justification I think they would use.
  21. My uneducated guess is that they are not planning on promoting him to Chicago this year. He'll need a 40 man spot and if the Cubs are in the race, they can't afford to have him working out any kinks here. Feels more to me like setting up a battle for a roster spot in Spring Training and then sending him down to "work on things" before bringing him up at some point if he continues playing well.
  22. Yeah I'm kind of interested in whether Stroman makes this start or is bumped for "an extra days rest". Starting and pitching a full 6-7 innings the day before the trade deadline slightly lowers his value IMO. If he starts and goes 100 pitches then I feel a bit better about him being on the roster next week.
  23. I'm pretty sure if they move anyone of consequence it wouldn't be for a rental. Maybe I'm wrong but just doesnt seem like something Jed would do He knows the Cubs are possibly better than their record but clearly not a WS contender
