  1. Hope Balla is ok. Would be the strangest thing ever if the Reds got a no hitter because PCA lined an XBH off his teammates head for a force out
  2. In 2007 we faced the Diamondbacks, who had a negative run differential that season. In 2008 we faced the 84 win Dodgers. We won a combined 0 games in those series. Anything can happen. If anything it’s kind of amazing that the Cubs were able to win it in the season they won 103 games and we still had to do things like: come back from down 3 runs in the 9th inning to prevent a deciding game vs the Giants, overcome back to back shutouts against the Dodgers, and come back from down 3-1 to beat Cleveland.
  3. Consistent is the right word. No 4 game losing streaks all year but also just one 5 game winning streak all year and it was back in March/April. (of course plenty of hot stretches like the current 7-1 we're in now). Not meant to be a negative, just saying that while not a complete straight arrow upwards, its mostly been a steady season despite how much many of us (myself included) want to panic when the team isn't playing as well as we think they can.
  4. Wasn't even the hardest hit ball by a Cub this game 👀
  5. I was only half listening but did I hear the broadcast call him the longest tenured Chicago pro athlete? That's wild.
  6. We did it! Jed managed to build a playoff team Congrats Cubs!
  7. You know I wasn't super excited about clinching the playoffs mostly because its been pretty much given for awhile now but sitting here 6 outs away I am getting hyped.
  8. And the next time Happ has a bad week the meatballs on twitter will forget about it and crown him history's greatest monster again.
  9. Not to mention they've had 4 baserunners since the 4th run scored and haven't pushed another across.
  10. Of course the Cubs would have a chance to clinch with a win, score 4 runs in the 1st before getting an out going against one of the worst offenses in baseball only for our all star ace to completely implode.
  11. Fun fact after the Cubs squander a 2 on, 0 out situation: the Cubs have scored exactly 4 runs in 4 consecutive games
  12. holy horsefeathers this inning is still going? Edit: OK now its over
  13. The force field does its job, Cubs can't convert a 1st and 3rd 1 out opportunity
  14. Certainly seems like the Cubs are interested in clinching a playoff spot today. Lets see if the 4 run force field limits us today.
  15. Yeah the Brewers being on pace for 99 wins makes not winning the division annoying but less frustrating. We mostly took care of business against them (or at least won more than we lost) so not much you can do to affect their season outside of those games. Certainly could have added more in the offseason or the deadline but for most teams its unrealistic to be upset that you didn't win 100 games given all the uncontrollable variables over the course of an MLB season.
  16. No but the Dodgers give me 2017 Cubs vibes. Coming off a World Series title, they know they're gonna make the playoffs, maybe they have to push a little harder late in the season to finish off the division but they'll probably win that. The goal is just to be ready to go when the playoffs start.
  17. At this point, while acknowledging there's still plenty of time for things to change, I'm not counting on Tucker being there for at least the WC round. Maybe we'll get a more positive update in a couple of days but something seems very off about this.
  18. The Cubs clinched based on someone losing in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2020. Only in 2017 did we clinch with a win. I believe in 2015, 2016 and 2018 we had a chance to clinch with a win but lost and relied on help. Hopefully we take the bull by the horns and put this 5 year playoff drought to bed today. From playoff appearances that I remember: -1998 - Clinched with win over SFG (Game 163) -2003 - Clinched with win over PIT -2007 - Clinched with MIL loss to SD -2008 - Clinched with win over STL -2015 - Clinched with SFG loss to OAK -2016 - Clinched with STL loss to SFG -2017 - Clinched with win over STL -2018 - Clinched with STL loss to MIL -2020 - Clinched with PHI loss to WAS Edit: Nevermind on 2016, looked it up...the Cubs clinched a playoff berth in 2016 with a win over STL, but they had a chance to clinch the division later on and lost and clinched with an STL loss to SFG
  19. The Bulls and Bears are both pathetic but the Angels are unique in that they squander generational talent and are never good but inexplicably go for it at the deadline on occasion and hurt their future more.
  20. Damn I was really hoping the Brewers would lose tonight to put some pressure on them down the stretch.
