  1. That ballpark is an abonimation. I've said it before and I'll say it again, MMP is probably the worst of the newer parks and if not for the domed stadiums (Skydome, Rollerdome, Tropicana), would be amongst the worst in all of baseball. It has all of the worst features of the modern mallpark (contrived, tacky, sterile) with none of its charms. I'm sure it holds its own when it comes to creature comforts, but aesthetically it is an affront to good taste. And don't get me started on the stupid hill. Whoever came up with that needs to be put away lest he infect the world with any more wonderful ideas. Making a ballpark have asymmetrical dimensions is ok. Even putting weird boxes of seats nailed to a wall is fine. But when you go as far as putting a hill in CF with an exposed flag pole in play, that is when you are trying waaay to hard to put quirky features in your park.
  2. I saw a statistic yesterday for the Astros home record with the Roof open and closed and both. I honestly don't remember the actual number, but I do remember there was about 50 games with it opened 25 games where it was closed and the remaining under 10 games when it was both opened and closed during a game. And Jimy, instead of accusing goony of flat out lying, perhaps he is mistaken or being misinterpreted.
  3. How does everything work out perfectly all year for a franchise who nothing has worked out for over the past 90 years? And why wasn't that team the Cubs?
  4. Lets wait to see if Neifi is resigned to start at SS before we decide to go to Cubs Convention
  5. Sounds like Bears playoff weather, not Sox :)
  6. Were you in St. Louis for the game last night, Gus? I have to say I was very impressed logging on here this morning, no senseless gloating to be found, only analysis over why the Cards lost. I don't know how NSBB has managed to accumulate such a quality group of posters in an anonymous internet forum. I hope to meet you and many others in Chicago next year. I hope I'm not late *ahem* OMGZ LOL Cards SUCK. Choked again!!1 Hehe, LaRussa can't win a big game!
  7. This move will DOOM the Cubs. The Cardinals are smart and they will go hard after, and sign Brian Giles. Ugh, the Cubs never had a shot at him...
  8. I hate the idea personally. Baseball needs less teams not more. Cities like Tampa can barely support their teams as it is. Plus I am all about tradition. I wish baseball could go back to the original 16 :). But in all seriousness, I just don't see a need for another team. But if there was.... North Side, South Side.....West Side? ;) They can build on the near the Cubs old West Side Grounds
  9. No that was just a pilot
  10. I heard somewhere that Rothschild works a lot better with power pitchers then finesse pitchers or vice versa. I forgot which one, maybe someone can enlighten me.
  11. Well there was probably less international media, less national media, less representatives of MLB, less celebrities to give tickets to, meaning there was more available to offer at lower prices.
  12. Good players get jerked around all the time in baseball. Unfortunately with Cedeno, Nomar, Walker, potential FA to occupy 2B and SS, one of those guys is the odd man out, and its not Cedeno. It's probably Walker, or less likely Nomar, or more likely both
  13. Then you can take a tour of Chicago's fine prision systems. They'll even let you pay bail just like the real criminals ;)
  14. Some reasons why the Cubs can't play at home: -Too many day games, too few dark players (this explains the summer months) -The firehouse across the street is too loud and distracting -The green of the ivy doesn't match the Cubs blue uniforms and creates a distracting contrast in colors that distorts the Cubs players vision -Wrigley is surrounded by bars. Bars that are open until 4 am. You have to be at the ballpark at 10am for a 2PM game. Think about it. -Too much traffic around the ballpark. Get too winded riding your bike down Halsted -That large imposing scoreboard scares our outfielders. Corey Patterson swore it was going to fall on him at some point last year. -Ryan Dempster made the players laugh so much that it distracted them (but only at home)
  15. Anyone remember when Manny hit a big HR against the A's in the 2003 ALDS and the Fox announcers ripped on him for like 3 innings for staring. Well Pujols HR last night was worse then that and those Cardinal loving guys didn't even mention it.
  16. If I had more time and money, I'd have gotten a pair of tickets and offered to sell them at face value to the first Sox fan that is willing to wear a Cubs hat and jersey to the game and keep it on throughout the entire game
  17. So your saying grab a seat in the first row and lean over
  18. I loathe the Cardinals, and I was rooting for them to lose, but I will give props where it is due, that was fascinating baseball.
  19. I don't foresee any Sox pitchers getting hurt over the next 4-7 games, so my answer is no. Usually if a manager has ridden his starters too hard during a season, those men will break down in the following season. This is what happened to the Cubs in 2004 (after a pennant run), and the Sox in 2001 (after their short playoff run). Of the five Sox startes that I can see getting hurt next year, I'd guess Freddy Garcia and of course, El Duque. Fortunately for the Sox, if one starter does miss an extended amount of time, Brandon McCarthy is a decent replacement. That said, I'd rather trade positions with them. I tip my cap to them and have already congratulated my Sox fan friends. I respect their style of play. Didn't Buerhle and Garcia log the most innings in the AL this year?
  20. The Cubs and White Sox is personal. It's hard to wear a Cubs hat in the Cubs home city because of the crap given by Sox fans. I'm not kidding. I've had Sox fans stop me in the street and give me grief for being a Cubs fan over the past two weeks. Imagine that multiplied if the Sox win the World Series. It's also tough seeing your own citys media go crazy over the White Sox, seeing tons of Sox hats on people who were probably wearing Cubs hats two years ago. It divides the city really. I mean maybe in December we are all Bears/Bulls/Blackhawks fans in a unified city. But from April-October, we are truely a divided city. It's the hardest thing I've had to get used to living in Chicago.
  21. I don't have the game, but can anyone try to replicate the exact moves the Cubs made in 04 and 05 and see where it gets them?
  22. With regards to Ozzie and his dumb decisions, him and Dusty are somewhat alike. They are both regarded as player managers, they both make dumb moves from time to time, and Ozzie for awhile had Timo Perez hitting 1-2 starting as often as possible, similar to Dusty's usage of Jose Macais. Of course there are differences too. Ozzie's penchant for small ball is well known, and while Dusty may sometimes preach small ball, anyone that has watched the Cubs down by 1-2 runs in the late innings knows that is a farce.
  23. I'm sure if I lived in Houston, I'd probably be the same way as you. But I have very little interaction with Astros fans, so I really don't mind if they win the World Series this year. The gloating by White Sox and Cardinals fans would be unbearable. The Cubs have been spat on, stomped on, left for dead by the sewer since late September of 2004. Their fan base is on life support. It's now when the true fans make themselves known. I am going to be wearing my Cubs hats a lot this winter.
  24. The real concern with Prior isn't injuries, its his subpar (to his standards) end to 2005 (3.70+ era :( ), and high pitch counts
  25. Exactly. Stupid Alex Gonzalez :(
