  1. Terrible move if the Cubs really plan on keeping Walker to play 2B next year. If thats the case, it pretty much IMO pushes Nomar out of the picture and makes it so we MUST sign Furcal, while relagating Cedeno to Iowa or the end of the bench. Otherwise, its 98 years for the Cubbies
  2. ^^ Didn't you hear Hawk. AJ is the best defensive catcher in baseball!
  3. Yeah I don't understand why the Cubs feel the need to have offense at SS and C, but no offense in RF and LF (and CF for that matter). Even worse is that their offensive SS and C are terrible at D. Wonder why we haven't won in 97 years...
  4. Yeah, I like Barrett as a person, but I'd much rather have a weaker hitting/great defensive catcher
  5. Well considering Maddux was signed to a 3 year deal after the Cubs went to the NLCS and Dusty was at the height of his popularity in Chicago leads me to believe that...no
  6. Anyone else find it strange that a thread with the word "rant" in its title has remained in Baseball Discussions for so long? ;)
  7. Not to nitpick, but Leno tapes in LA. Letterman and Conan tape in NYC
  8. http://www.astrosdaily.com It's funny that in 2003 they had Lidge, Dotel, Wagner for 7th, 8th, 9th. Then they traded Wagner, and made Dotel the closer. Then Dotel stunk and Lidge became the man. Now Lidge has stunk in the WS (despite a mostly fine regular season). Maybe Qualls or Gallow can close?
  9. I was awoken at 4:30 AM by Sox fans chanting "LETS GO WHITE SOX" while walking down Ashland (Near Irving Park). Ugh
  10. ^ OK that article enrages me to no end. To say that the Cubs fans are racist because they didn't want to see their crosstown rivals gloat in their face for the whole year, thats....well I won't comment any further on it because thats exactly what he wants us to do is respond with disgust
  11. I don't even understand what he's talking about there. It was packed last year, when? During the regular season? Umm there is a good reason for that. Does he expect Cubs fans (besides me) to come out to the bars on a Wednesday night to watch their hated crosstown rivals celebrate a White Sox world series in front of them? That is just Cub-hating right there.
  12. The White Sox are much closer to building a dynasty then the Cubs are. There I said it...
  13. BTW, is everyone sick of people who make say "Red Sox in 2004, White Sox in 2005, Cubs in 2006?" Maybe I'm upset about it because I know the Cubs and they won't come through... :(
  14. Just wanted to post the article where polosprt09 (JP Zarka) and I (Tony DeMaria) were heavily quoted in: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051027&content_id=1260887&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cws
  15. More class from Sox fans. A friend that was WITH me tonight that left us when we left to go home. This is taken from an IM convo Him: 3 white sox fans beat me up Him: no i was walking to the el and these three dudes were saying stuff and then one of them pushed me so i pushed him then bam the other two were on me Him: yeah just a bit sore...it only lasted like 30 seconds Him: they were just giving me crap cuz of my cubs hat then one of them pushed me Him: oh well...it just gives me more of a reason to hate the sox
  16. Thank God I live all the way over on Ashland. Also, look on MLB.com tomorrow for a quote from me. A freelance writer had the nerve to ask me questions at the bar because I am a Cubs fan.
  17. Excuse me if I mispell, I am kinda drunk. I went to the Cubby Bear just to be out tonight. It was 95% Sox fans. After the game was over, I got at least 7-8 free glasses of champagne (everyone got free glasses, but I got extra to 'drown my sorrows' because I was a Cubs fan). About 5 minutes after the game, hundreds of Sox fans walked out to the streets of Wrigleyville and celebrated on the sidewalks. Hundreds of cars drove by honking horns. On guy drove by with a Cubs flag waving, and Sox fans literally tried to stop him right in the middle of the street to give him a hard time. Anyways, so I walk across the street to Wrigley, and what do I see? About 60-70 Sox fans standing at the corner of Clark and Addison waving Sox flags, taking pictures, etc. Everyone one I asked basically said "I couldn't think of a better place to celebrate then outside Wrigley." So basically the first thing that came to Sox fans minds when celebrating was "lets go gloat to the Cubs"....how juvenile....
  18. Corey and Hill for a better version of Corey and an above average reliever? It depends on how much money they eat I guess.
  19. After awhile, the misery actually starts to feel good. I'm not kidding, its like people who cut themselves for the adrenaline rush the pain brings.
  20. At least the White Sox trash won't get to celebrate their WS at home. We Cubs fans deserve more than to grasp at straws like that. Do we though? We are Cubs fans, we deserve the worst apparently. At least this is about as low as Cub-dom can go. And before you criticise me by saying that the lowest low for Cubs can't be on something the Cubs had no control over, I disagree. I think the fact that 2 years ago we had 2 teams in our area of futility, now we are alone as we watched our long suffering city rivals win the World Series, pretty much dominating baseball, without even breaking a sweat. Anyways, my point is, unless the White Sox become the Yankees of the 2000's while we continue our futility, it can only go up from here for Cubs fans.
  21. I agree, I think the Brewers will break the bad luck for the NLC next year
  22. Barrett had every right to hate on Oswalt...hes a little punk
  23. Man and I thought the Cubs collapse horribly...the Astros collapse horribly almost every game it seems
  24. That ballpark is an abonimation. I've said it before and I'll say it again, MMP is probably the worst of the newer parks and if not for the domed stadiums (Skydome, Rollerdome, Tropicana), would be amongst the worst in all of baseball. It has all of the worst features of the modern mallpark (contrived, tacky, sterile) with none of its charms. I'm sure it holds its own when it comes to creature comforts, but aesthetically it is an affront to good taste. And don't get me started on the stupid hill. Whoever came up with that needs to be put away lest he infect the world with any more wonderful ideas. Making a ballpark have asymmetrical dimensions is ok. Even putting weird boxes of seats nailed to a wall is fine. But when you go as far as putting a hill in CF with an exposed flag pole in play, that is when you are trying waaay to hard to put quirky features in your park.
