  1. He just signed an extension and even if the Cubs collapse they'll probably finish over .500 which is much better than most expected. They'll just blame it on running out of gas and not being a fully evolved form of the "next great Cubs team" and move forward with Ross.
  2. Also, that Happ hit was 105 mph with a .380 xBA. Definitely would have preferred a more patient AB there but he at least hit it hard.
  3. I would have been satisfied with a split going into the series but really the worst outcome I could accept is 1-3. Need to win 1 of the weekend games. Arizona catching us would suck but they would only be for WC2. Could mitigate the damage if the other guys struggle
  4. In the past week the Cubs have wasted: -A game where Smyly and Wesneski pitched 6.1 innings and gave up 1 run -A game where Assad pitched 8 shutout innings -A game where Taillon threw 6 shutout innings. Still 4-4 over that span though I guess
  5. I think the Happ hitting 3rd conversation is silly for exactly what you pointed out but it is funny how many games end with him making an out and the guy that has 13 more RBIs than any other player in baseball in the 2nd half standing on the on-deck circle.
  6. Hopefully tomorrow we can get a baserunner to 2nd base. Gotta start somewhere
  7. Complete game 3 hit shutout, the day after the Cubs had 2 hits in the first 8 innings before tacking on a garbage time run.
  8. Please don't ground into a double play to end the game Nico
  9. Perfectly fair to call out both. The offense is the biggest blame but seems like we lose too many close ones with headscratching decisions.
  10. Gomes, Tauchman and Hoerner due up to score at least 1 run
  11. wait wtf, I turned the game off. Alzolay is pitching now? Head scratcher all around...
  12. I guess we have to hope the other WC teams struggle. Gotta get 1 this weekend against Arizona to keep them to 2 games behind. But man if Steele can't outbattle another really good pitcher facing the offense that's scored 2 runs the last 2 games, Sunday is going to be nerve wracking. Steele is coming off 2 of the highest pitch count outings of his career.... Or we can come back in the 9th and win, I suppose thats still on the table
  13. Cubs fail to get their first baserunner to 2nd base today
  14. He does have a choice. He can try to get a 7th inning out of Taillon, he could try to get a 2nd inning out of Merryweather.
  15. Madrigal gave it a ride, thats about as hard as he can hit it...
  16. I think the biggest thing is he's put much more faith in Cuas that most of us think he should. He's treating him like a trusted high leverage reliever
  17. I'm just a dude behind a computer but if Alzolay is out, I'm either trying to get Taillon to make it through 7, or Merryweather is pitching 2 after a relatively short 1st inning
  18. He had a really nice strikeout and induced a softly hit bloop. Not sure why he's the target of your anger here
  19. who is supposed to pitch the 9th if the Cubs get a lead? Boxberger in his first appearance in 4 months?
  20. I was about to say, maybe because Thompson sucks and he threw 41 pitches last night
  21. Cuas has had some success but this makes no sense. This is a big game and a game where we might need to use up all our high leverage guys. Pulling Merryweather after a 14 pitch inning seems insane
