  1. Next year can't get any worse. I know we cannot think of anything worse, but something will happen to make it worse. Since you posted this I have been sitting here trying to think of some way for ti to be worse than this next year. I came up with nothing. I was thinking too...probably this: Mets for some reason move to the AL this offseason. The Cubs as expected fail to win 60 games. Your ALCS in 2007 is White Sox vs. Mets. Your NLCS is Cardinals vs. Astros. (Astros beat the Marlins, Cardinals beat the Padres). The World Series is Cardinals vs. White Sox. In game 7, tied 3-3 in the 9th, all of the players on both sides of the field decide to call the series a draw, take the Red Line up to Wrigleyville and storm the neighborhood pilaging everything including Wrigley Field. George Bush is impeached (the only good thing here) and an emergency election is held. Steve Bartman and Alex Gonzalez run on the presidential ticket and win, with their first act being to disband the Chicago Cubs.

  3. Castillos baserunning blunder ended Game 3...thats about all I can think of
  4. He's available you know ;)
  5. QBs are making a comeback in Fantasy leagues this year. With the RB position evolving to a 2 back system, top QBs seem to be one of the more reliable point producing postions out there. If you are desperate for QBs, there are 3 interesting choices for pickups, maybe not to start, but to hold on the bench just in case... Tony Romo: He's got the players around him to make him put up good numbers (Glenn and TO), hes got the RB that will take the pressure off the passing game (J. Jones), and hes got the coach who likes to sling it out once in awhile, which can lead to big scores. But he has little to no NFL experience, doesn't seem like his arm is accurate enough to stay away from TOs, and hes got a crazy receiver that would make life hell for him if he doesn't give him the ball. David Gerrard: Yes its him again. With Leftwich injured, and the offense sputtering, Gerrard is back to put pressure on the starting QB job in Jax. Bill Simmons made a good point today when he mentioned how they have a good rookie pass catching RB, and wideouts that run great deep routes. The problem is that Leftwich's arm is useless past 20 yards. In steps Gerrard. Honestly, I have no idea if he is any better, but I looked up some of his numbers from last year, and they aren't that bad. If you remember correctly, towards the end of last year Leftwich was injured and there were rumblings that Gerrard was playing well enough to keep the starters spot when Byron was healthy. Anyways, its hard to tell whether the coaches would make a starting QB change when Leftwich is healthy, as all indications are that he is (rightly or wrongly) their franchise QB. But should Gerrard light it up this weekend....anything is possible. Worth to keep an eye on. Trent Green: Old faithful Trent Green is back to practicing again. He has likely been dropped in many leagues by the team that originally drafted him, and if you have the bench space, I'd highly recommend seeing if hes available and picking him up to wait for his return. The thing about Green is, he had a pretty severe concussion and has missed 7 weeks. Who knows if he will ever be the same mentally after a blow like that. Who knows how long it takes him to get back in the swing of things again. Right now its like he's going to through training camp again. Anyways, with the numbers like he has had in past seasons, you'd be dumb not to take a chance on him if you have the space on your bench. Hope that helps. I should write a fantasy column :)
  6. I picked up Henry for my team because one of my big 3 (LJ, Westbrook, Ronnie Brown) is on bye (Brown). So yeah I say him
  7. Same here. Oddly enough, I don't really have strong feelings against the other NL Central teams outside of the Cardinals and the Astros. I don't know know why, but seeing the Brewers, Pirates or Reds win it all wouldn't get to me as much as the other two. The Cardinals are the Cardinals, and the Astros have been above average to great since the mid 1990s. The other 3 have been mostly bad for 20 years with a few exceptions (hey, kinda like us!) What I want to know is why fans of every team in the NL Central have this bitter hate for us for some reason.
  8. Due to Hurrican Ivan(?) we ended up having to play 24 games in 22 days or something like that. Hawkins also really sucked if my memory serves me correctly.[/quote Yes, especially in that 4 game Cinci series. I went to the game, and after he blew it I came how and changed my user name to "Hawkinsruined2k4" for a few months.
  9. Hey what was that joke circulating earlier in the year about both the Cardinals and the Cubs have never won the World Series in their current stadium? Whoops
  10. No, its because of a combination of things. This is just the last straw. The 'Cards were well on thier way to starting a good streak of post-season futility themselves (25 years), and they're now on the verge of winning it all. The Sox won it all last year. TThe Red Sox the year before, and the spectacular Cubs collapse the previous year. When is it our turn to win it all? And now, the team has a new problem. Suppose we win it all one year. We will keep hearing the mantra of "Ooo. 1 WS victory in 125 years!" (FYI, I think the Cubs futility streak goes on for 25 more years), unless the Cubs become a dominant force for years to come. I could care less what they say. If the Cubs won the World Series, nothing could damage the moment
  11. Get used to them flaunting around their WS champion shirts all year. If you get sick of them, turn your attention to White Sox fans still wearing their WS champions shirts from last year.
  12. Same thing with me except late Summer 2004. At least you had playoff baseball to enjoy you jerk
  13. This is the worst 2 years of my life as a sports fan. Seriously I cant even crack a smile right now....this is just bad. Honestly, I really really honestly feel like there is someone upstairs just pointing down at me and laughing and devising more ways to make me feel miserable. Every time I feel like we've hit rock bottom as Cubs fans, something else happens. It's unbelievable. And through it all, I can't not continue to be a Cubs fan. This is a sick and horrible joke. We are the disgrace of baseball folks, I hope you all realize that.
  14. Wow the Bears didnt make John Clayton's First and 10 article which analyzes the top 11 games of the weekend. I know its a mismatch, but games like the Jets and Browns and Steelers and Raiders are on there. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2639109
  15. Here is how I view the choices: 1. Contract Wiki: Cool idea, it would be a great reference for the users of this site as well as other sites. It would definitely be something that would seperate us from other message board/fan sites. 2. Blogs: I like this idea a lot too. I don't speak for the others on this site, but I don't think its necessary to give bloggers a share of the revenues of the site. I would think that most people would rather the revenues go towards keeping NSBB running strong and what not. If you do blogs, be sure to encompass a lot of different varieties and opinions. For instance there are a lot of technical posters on this site, but there are also a lot of funny, less serious posters. Each bring different angles to the forum, as they should to the blogs. 3. Stats: I like this idea if you can get it running fluidly. It might be difficult to update current stats regularly unless you have someone dedicated to updating and whatnot (if you are choosing to use season in progress stats instead of just past stats) 4. Transactions: I think this is decent, but it seems like there are many sites up there that keep others up to date about transactions, even on the minor league level. Perhaps resources could be better used then this. Just my opinion. 5. Players: This is pretty cool. I like some of the other suggestions better, but I would like something like this to be featured 6. Scouting: Just my opinion, but wouldn't it make more sense to just open a "Scouting Forum" on NSBB and let posters submit their scouting? just seems like it would be taking away from the forum aspect of the site to have a scouting wiki. While we are on the topic of the site, I noticed you making some improvements on the searching. Is there any chance that the archives will be posted somewhere for viewing/searching? Do you even still have them or are they gone for good? Keep up the good work!
  16. He's probably on the bench because he hit .199 after the All Star Break in 146 ABs
  17. The coaching list is looking a lot like the "Look again" POY candidates
  18. I'm suprised he hasn't said stuff like "I don't think Pudge and Placedo are doing that well because it's been too damn cold all series. They aren't used to playing in this rediculously cold weather. If they were smart, they would have activated Chris Shelton for this series and moved Brandon Inge back to catcher."
  19. Winslow is probably the best TE outside of the big 4 (Gates, Shockey, Gonzalez, Crumpler) even though Cleveland's passing game sucks. Jordan is pretty useless right now, but if he's your backup TE, it can't hurt
  20. It's pretty obvious that if Joe didn't get the Cubs job, he was going to hold out for the Yankees. I bet he either got assurances that Torre is on a short rope, or he just concluded it himself and is waiting it out a season to get that job.
  21. Jon have you heard anything about the NFL emailing youtube users who upload NFL action telling them to remove the videos? http://boards.chicagobears.com/forums/thread/117589.aspx
  22. I dunno...individual teams can only appear on prime time 5 times during the season. The Bears will already have 4 (Seattle, Arizona, New York, and St Louis). NBC might want to save that potential 5th game for the last one of the season in case the Bears have a shot at 16-0 or (and probably more importantly in their eyes) Favre retires and it's his last game. I have never heard the 5 game limit thing before. You sure it's true? I've heard the limit is 5, but up to 2 teams can have a 6th game
  23. Can't say I'm real excited about that... WTH? Are you serious? Who is he going to be announcing with?
  24. move to california. I'm definitely considering it at this point. Every Cardinals hit makes me hate the Cubs even more
