    Also, Gausman's xFIP is better than anyone on the Cubs that's made a start this year except Ben Brown and Riley Martin who was an opener.

    4.1 fWAR last year, 22.7 combined the last 5 seasons. Obviously a bit of a down year this year with regards to results but his FIP and xFIP are right in the same range as previous years and he's at 2.6 fWAR (I know pitching WAR is meh, just easy to quickly review) so there's probably some bad luck involved. I think this is a great move.

    Here’s another situation where I don’t get not challenging. It was a strike yes but it was at least close and the game is over if you dont challenge. Why not at least tap your helmet?

    Cubs offense really went from red hot to cold almost instantly.

    Ian’s gonna have to have a mighty hot streak at some point to get to his usual numbers. Not idea in a contract year for him.

    If only there was someone on the team who had experience using audible signals to inform a hitter about information he wouldn’t otherwise have.

    I get it but he’s been in the league for several years, feel like he should innately know that a ball/strike call that can tie the game if overturned is a no brainer. I know you’re talking about from a wider perspective, but this one should have been automatic for him imo

    Do the managers have immediate pitch location data? Because I can't see how the manager has a better look than the hitter and 2 seconds is almost instant.

    Maybe but the fact is it wasn’t close at all. I was laughing when the catcher challenged the 3rd pitch in that situation and pitch 4 was clearly more outside.

    It bothers me that they seem to lack awareness of the situation. If Nico’s thought was “oh well it’s still 3-1, I can still walk” then he’s probably not going after that next pitch which was well placed for a fly out if swung at.

    See this is why the ABS system as set up is a brilliant move to take blame away from the umpires. The umpire terribly botched a call and everyone is yelling at the hitter. Don’t get me wrong that’s ridiculously bad of Nico but the umpire f’d up more

    horsefeathers ridiculous. We have 2 challenges left how do you not challenge anything close on a 3-0 count?

    He was at a season high pitch count and to me didn't look as sharp the previous 2 innings as he did the first 4. It was the bottom of the order though and he got the first batter out so I get it. I wasn't screaming for him to be pulled but I thought it was odd he was still out there and then right after he gave up the HR

    Nico reminds me of Theriot in that they have these random power surges every year but don’t hit for power at all the rest of the time
