  1. The Padres are right on their pythag record. Fans of every team, every year, try and rationalize why it doesn't apply to their team, but there's probably not much skill to getting outscored and winning 90 games. There's no leveraging that accounts for that, and it's not out of the realm of possibility for a team to happen into a weird run distribution or just luck their way into a discrepancy like that. The 2006 Indians come to mind as a team that found themselves on the wrong side of the bell curve. Look at them now, four games over their pythag and clinched the division. DBacks fans should take solace in the fact that it really just doesn't matter. They have had a good year, and their young offense should improve. As for the playoffs, it doesn't really matter who's playing who in a short series. Enjoy the heightened atmosphere. But your saying with a team with a acceptable 1-2-3 rotation a horrible 4-5 and a great back end of the rotation cant win a bunch of 2-1, 4-3, 3-1 games and then lose a lot of 11-1, 8-2, etc. games. I'm not saying luck doesn't play a factor. It does. But without statistical research to back me up, it seems rather plausable that some teams are built to deviate away from the pythag trend than others.
  2. Good with all the wins he's been jobbed out of before with pathetic offense, its nice that he can come in and get a W
  3. Rich, where was this stuff when we needed you earlier in the month? OK, I guess I shouldn't be critical today
  4. I'll be there. Right by my office too
  5. 90-70 isn't lucky. Best team in the NL, isn't lucky. People have said that for months, still wrong. Now, who is pitching for you guys Game 1, 2, 3? Assuming we meet up. 1: Webb vs -- 2: Davis vs -- 3: No idea vs. -- The DBacks have given up more runs than they've allowed. They're clearly a lucky ass team. Generally yes, but the DBacks are built to win close games. Probably the best 7-8-9 bullpen this side of the Padres (maybe better?). They have their holes (2-3-4-5 starters are not the best, but they mostly get the job done). Plus the backend of the DBacks rotation isn't even relevant in this discussion because I'm guessing it would be Webb, Davis, Livan, Webb, Davis. We beat Webb once this year, but hes still a tough matchup for our team. Davis is a lefty, and as you know you can throw stats away when we face lefties. Make no bones about it, the DBacks would be a very very tough matchup.
  6. Lets finish the season with a 5 game lead and 10 games over .500!
  7. Yup those are the 2. I'm in the light blue polo. Like I said, not the best pictures, but I love that I got in the paper! My friend JP (NSBB name: polosprt009) is the guy with the blue cubs shirt and blue hat thats on the left screaming in the second picture
  8. You the guy in the blue polo? Yup
  9. I just found out that I'm on the front page of the tribunes paper today and sunday. I'm the guy in the white hat and light blue shirt. Not a very flattering picture but WOW
  10. OH MY GOD THATS ME ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE TRIBUNE thats me in the white hat and light blue shirt!!!!!!
  11. me. Don't worry I'll meet up
  12. What bars you like for Cubs games? Everywhere except the Cubbie Bear, High Tops and Sluggers you going to one of the bars, or just going to party at Wrigley? Not sure...my friends are en route here right now. We'll probably goto a place like Barleycorn, or Merkles. I heard the streets around Wrigley have been shut down so people are expecting mass celebration in the streets. That might be where the party is at
  13. What bars you like for Cubs games? Everywhere except the Cubbie Bear, High Tops and Sluggers
  14. I'm sitting here at School and Racine (about 4 blocks from Wrigley) waiting for it to get into the 8th inning with the Padres in the lead so I can goto Wrigley. YES!!!!!!!!! 9 more outs!
  15. C'mon I want to celebrate tonight guys
  16. C'mon boys
  17. There goes Z's nono
  18. It's only a 5.5 hour drive

  20. Lee has 21 HR, Ramirez 26, Soriano 31. I think its funny to note that all 3 of our sluggers have hit exactly 10 HRs less than I expected from them this year. Imagine if we placed 30 home runs somewhere in the season, how much different things might be. Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano have combined for 78 HR. In 2005, Lee and Ramirez alone combined for 77 home runs. Just mind boggling
  21. Would be awesome if we could win in extra innings or if the Brewers could play a really quick game so that we could celebrate on field if we clinch.
  22. I live a couple of blocks away as well. If the Cubs win and the Brewers are losing/in a close game, I will surely walk down there to join in the celebration. The Cubs are my foremost concern as always, but I can't help but look forward to how crazy it will be in Wrigleyville throughout the playoffs if they make it.
  23. Don't forget theres always a possibility that Ben Sheets could be healthy enough to go out there and pitch a one game playoff. That could be disasterous
  24. Added the 3 games that we will lose in Florida next season.
