But yeah Podsednik was the key to that team. How can anyone think that the pitching giving up 189 less runs than the year before had anything to do with their successes?

    I've been pleasantly surprised by Theriot of late. Hopefully he keeps it up. He's been getting good contact and hitting to the gaps. Definitely a nice hot streak. I don't think he'll give us Neifi like production, but probably more like replacement level at SS.

    Looks like Dusty hasn't completely fine tuned his "give up" lineup yet. All he needs to do is replace Griffey with Hatteberg or something and then it looks good.

    Ooo, I didn't even know there was a political debate on tonight. What channel? So I'll be flipping from the Cubs, the Bulls last game (yes I'm a glutton for punishment and fiercely loyal through thick and thin), and this debate. Fun night ahead!

    Johnson is a platoon player. Look at his L/R splits. One thing this injury should NOT do is parlay a platoon player into an everyday spot. I think the real reason why Murton isn't called up is because he has very similar splits as Reed. Which begs the question, why did we sign Reed when we already have Murton? For the record...Murton and Johnson's career splits: Murton vs. RHP: .280/.346/.425/.771 Murton vs. LHP: .326/.399/.510/.909 Johnson vs. RHP: .267/.328/.382/.710 Johnson vs. LHP: .309/.373/.461/.834 So Murton is obviously the better player. Why don't we just trade for Frank Thomas and play him in left? He has better r/l splits than both of those guys, and since that's apparently all that matters, he'd be an all-star left fielder. ...because we don't already have Frank Thomas..? I'm not sure what your argument is.

    I know, how can this help Murton's trade value to not be promoted when the LF blocking your place goes on the DL and you don't get called up. Murton for Marlon Byrd? Not even close anymore.

I don't think Lou likes him. Reed has a little more pop than Murton. How do you figure? Reed has a .409 career SLG, Murton a .455

    Are you serious? A guy with a .455 career MLB slg% in over 800 ABs is to be judged on 34 minor league ABs? This is DKWG you're talking about here. Of course he's serious. Me and DKWG have different views, but usually he presents a better argument than a 34 AB sample of his SLG %

    So how does everyone think the lineups will go with this move Option 1 DeRosa to RF Reed Johnson to LF Fukudome to CF Fontenot/Patterson at 2B Comments: Would be very Cub-like to turn a hot start by a clear platoon player into a starting gig at the expense of the team's top prospect. Option 2 DeRosa to LF Fontenot/Patterson at 2B Comments: The easiest move probably, but the Cubs have never been big on easy moves. Option 3: DeRosa to LF Cedeno to RF Patterson to CF Theriot at SS Fontenot at 3B Brian Roberts, traded for Gallagher, Rich Hill and Felix Pie, at 2B Jose Macais resigned to play C Derrek Lee, at knife point is forced by Jim Hendry to call a press conference and announce that his prefered and natural position is actually 2B, but due to the circumstances will be a team player and agree to play 1B in the interim. Comments: Hendry then wakes up...

    Seriously, ever since Soriano signed, Murton has been unable to get a full time place to play with the Cubs. Now, Soriano gets hurt and the Cubs have a perfect spot to put him, and we get a 2B to take his place?

    Yup. Plenty of people rocking Cubs skull caps last night. The bleachers usually fill up quick since its first come first serve, so that'd be my guess as to why you haven't received anything there.
