  1. 6-4. The worst offense in baseball has scored 11 runs thus far against 2 of our top 3 pitchers.
  2. I was going to say GET TED OUT OF THERE, but then I saw Chad Fox taking off his jacket.
  3. because we don't particularly like him and Pie is going to the minors for him.
  4. Awesome! As they say, Manny being Manny.
  5. Quotes from Hendry: idiot Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=3396277
  6. I'd still boo him every time he came up to the plate.
  7. Lets predict Jim Edmonds line with the Cubs .248/.340/.398/.738 11 HR in 95 games.
  8. Well, we all hated Dennis Rodman as well, but that actually worked out okay, didn't it? Everyone needs to relax a bit. If he sucks, he won't play, but I'm sure the Wrigley faithful will rise and cheer the first time he pulls a premature dive to catch a ball or he starts hitting. In the end, it's $284K and a low-risk, maybe good reward move. Dennis Rodman's career (at least physically) wasn't on a steep decline before he came here. Also, Rodman was probably the 3rd or 4th most hated player on those Pistons teams. Also, Rodman's signing didn't push like Toni Kukoc out of the rotation. This is however, the best analogy I've seen sadly.
  9. I find swearing out loud is a lot more effective than on a message board anyways. Kinda like this guy... (not Rick Roll)
  10. Estes got a W today so its only fair Peavy doesn't. Got to even out ...right???? Marquis beat Oswalt, I think last night was the evening out game. Crap. In 2005, the Blue Jays took the first 2 games of a series against the Cubs, and the Cubs had Sergio Mitre on the mound to avoid a sweep vs. Roy Halladay. Sweep right? No, the Cubs won. In 2007, the Cubs played the Diamondbacks, and the first game of the series, we had Brandon Webb going against Jason Marquis. We won. Potential sweep right? Nope, the Dbacks took the next 2 games. You end up staying for the whole game last night? I'm gonna give it one more go tonight, but 5 in a row is wearing on me this week especially with this crap weather. Hate to say it but I left after the bottom of the 7th. My roommates girlfriend was too cold and wet. Watched the end of the game at Goose Island while I dried off. Hopefully you have a better time tonight.
  11. You don't have to. I am rooting for the Cubs to win in spite of him.
  12. I think if he signs above the league minimum, the Cubs are on the hook for his remaining deal with the Padres.
  13. It's pretty much a given at this point. Better move past the denial into the anger stage. I doubt the acceptance stage will come anytime soon though. You guys may have to follow the Cubs without me, because when this comes to pass...somehow I may go on a suspendable tirade. Didn't we get your swearing request approved last night?

  15. I blame at least a small part of this loss on the umpires. I cannot believe they didn't delay the game at all. The conditions were miserable from the 4th inning until the 9th. Ground balls will slowed down greatly by the wet conditions, fly balls were batted down by thick rain pellets. At the end of the day, you have to win no matter the conditions, but the rain greatly favored the pitcher after the Padres took the lead and the rain came down. From the 9th inning on, the rain stopped (as was forecasted) and the conditions would have allowed them to finish the game in ample time.
  16. I will boo him every time he comes up. That doesn't mean I'll take any contributions he makes. I just don't like the guy and never will.
  17. It would be really hard to deny that trade, even though the Cubs already desperately need another starter and this would put us two behind the pace.
  18. Yup. I can't stand missing games because of work. I don't mind this tradition dying.
  19. I forgot him and Steve Trachsel as well.
  20. There are three things wrong about this move that makes this among the worst possible players to acquire: -Hated and villified player who is most known for being fan favorite on arch rival -Once great player with rediculously declining skills (both offensively and defensively), also known to be a bad clubhouse person -Replacing the team's perennial top prospect before top prospect gets a consistent chance to play and prove himself at this level. Meanwhile, the offense isn't broke. We lead all of baseball in runs score, and while its unlikely that it will stay that way all year, its certainly not worth replacing an above average defensive CF with an improving bat with a below average CF with a declining bat. Everything about this move is wrong. There is no silver lining or really any grey area at all in this move, unless Edmonds reverts to 2005 form offensively. But even then, he's still hated and he's still replacing our top prospect. Unless...I cringe as I write this....the Cubs are signing Edmonds and trading Pie for pitching. And I know you're half kidding....but what pitcher could we possibly get for Pie at this point. He can't even start over a .650 OPS CF with worse defensive skills. If we were FORCED to move Pie to AAA, I would have rather given up players to get Crisp, who can at least play fantastic defense, then payed almost nothing for Edmonds.

  23. I apologize, I don't know much about poll creation and went back and added Dusty Baker and Other and it erased the other poll results. Sorry!
  24. Jimbo has made plenty of bad or awkward signings in his career. He has also been linked to quite a few. Who is the worst? Feel free to chime in with your own. Remember, this isn't necessarily end result, but worst expectations for a potential signing. This saves someone like LaTroy Hawkins. Also, to limit this, minor league contracts that end up being recalled by the Cubs don't count. So players like Dameon Jackson, Rey Ordonez don't count. However, I am granting an exemption for Neifi and Rusch as they were both resigned by the club.
  25. I don't know if anyone posted this already but I'm reading some comments on Gateway Redbirds:
