    Edmonds is not Nomar or Fukudome. He's not going to be a celebrated new player. Cubs fans at Wrigley hated Jim Edmonds. This isn't a NSBB thing. He will have, at best, a mixed reception. My guess is it won't be emphatic one way or the other. Exactly. Anyone who has been to a Cubs Cardinals game knows how much he was hated.

    I will never forget that game, and I will never fully hate Estes because of that game. IIRC, he even had 2 hits that game. Of course if he didn't suck the rest of the year, that game wouldn't have been necessary. Bingo. No need to sugar coat because of one well-timed quality start. He sucked. That and, look at the Reds lineup that day. Who wouldn't have shut them down? Freel Hummel Jimenez Casey Branyan Pena LaRue Olmedo Add that to the fact that we were up 7-0 after the 3rd inning, and I guess his performance isn't as impressive as once thought. BTW, the fact that Estes started that game over Cruz reminds me of Trachsel getting the start over Marshall late last season against Houston. When will the Cubs learn?

    Am I the only one who reads this as just Gordon's guess? I mean he seems to have no more info that Bruce had in his blog, he just spins it as if it's a done deal. Considering Levine is echoing similar sentiments, and Bruce is speculating as well, it's pretty likely something is inevitable.

    Does anyone remember John Starks' tenure with the Bulls? That might be the only situation worse than this. Starks almost refused to play for the hated Bulls, and IIRC the Bulls fans booed the hell out of Starks during his only home game here.

    Why is our offense kinda sucky tonight? Is it because it needs more Jim Edmonds?

    vs. Arizona. Probably 04. He gave up an IF hit on a play where the batter was actually out, missed call by 1B ump. He ended up getting all the of the other 26 outs which woulda been a no-hitter, before giving up a solid hit. I was there, it was '03 and it was one of the worst experiences of my life, despite the fact we won. Sosa had 2 HRs of Curt Schilling that game.

    I'm confused. The Cubs have only had 3 three game series sweeps (vs. Pit, @ Pit, vs. Ari) to my knowledge... Yes, and all three were series in which Zambrano did not pitch. There was only one other series in which that happened (@Stl I think). So, the Cubs have swept 3 of the 4 three-game series in which Zambrano didn't pitch (The Mets sweep was a 2-gamer in which Z did pitch). Ah, I gotcha. That makes sense now.

    Good question. I don't think there's enough space in the Cubs clubhouse for all of them. In all seriousness seeing Jimmy in a Cubs uniform would be depressing. For everyone involved. I personally don't think he would sign with the Cubs. Remember all his complaining about the cold showers and crappy conditions at Wrigley. And he certainly hasn't forgotten a lot of the stuff people have screamed at him over the years from the bleachers. He knows he would not be welcome, and I don't think her personally likes the Cubs of their fans that much. IMO, he would probably take a minor league deal with another team over a major league deal with us.

    Good move. We are going to beat the Pirates anyways, might as well get the kid's confidence up. Hopefully he believes he is pitching to actual major leaguers. (Sorry Jake, I'm kidding I know the Pirates are alright this year)

    I would cheer for him to strike out every AB. I thought for sure I would NEVER put one individual player above the team, but in this instance, I can't imagine ever wanting to cheer for that hack.

    I agree with the sitting Geo sentiment, he needs a day off, going 0 for his last 12. Also, he has started 12 consecutive games for the Cubs, going at least 9 innings behind the plate in 10 of those 12. Blanco hasn't started since April 27th, and has only started 5 out of the Cubs 37 games.
