    No, because Bruce is wrong. I could well be wrong. I've had to talk myself into living with it (like I have another choice). If it doesn't work, they'll just get rid of him. No, you're right. It would only have been bad had it taken PT away from Pie. But since Felix wasn't getting any, it really doesn't make any difference. But we don't need him and he is hated at least by a majority of Cubs fans. If this post makes me a "meatball" then so be it. hating him for being jim edmonds makes you a meatball. Yay! I actually don't mind that. I am stubborn in my ways. I don't like Jim Edmonds and I'm not afraid to admit it.

    With all due respect to Bruce, I think even he would agree that people are allowed to have differing opinions about things. Now obviously he's more in the know, and might have some sort of knowledge about why Pie was never given a shot, or why Edmonds was better than his numbers in SD, but even then, this isn't a communist board where everyone is supposed to think alike. no, i beg to differ. it is a communist board because we're all supposed to be meatballs and hate edmonds or get flamed. Why does it make somebody a meatball to dislike bad baseball players on the Cubs? meatballs don't hate edmonds because he's a bad baseball player. like i said, the move is pointless at worst. I don't know why, but calling people meatballs sounds so odd. Sounds like something someone would say in the 70's

    Actually theres one more reason why he might keep this lineup. Because he is going to strictly keep Edmonds/Reed in a strict platoon and doesn't want Fukudome to have to switch from 2nd to 5th on a nightly basis.

    I'm guessing that Lou wants to see a little out of Edmonds before he moves him up to 5th and moves Fukudome to 2nd. Either that or its wishful thinking. Oh well, the only singular reason that I thought this move would help the Cubs has been erased by Lou's incompetence.

    I don't see the Cubs doing that. Do they have any precedent in doing that? Most teams lock up their young stars because they get them for an extra year or two at a discounted price. The Cubs however, are a large market team that would most likely rather play the arby game, with full confidence that they will be able to buy him when he eventually goes to the open market, which isnt for quite awhile. Besides, by the time hes a FA, he will be a nearly 30 year old catcher.

    Ugh, Ward always has these random injuries that come out of nowhere. It probably has to do with his *ahem* stature...I know the guy plays 2 minutes a week, but c'mon he's being played millions to play baseball, why can't he be in better shape?

    i really really doubt that. if he hits .230 there will be enough people calling for his head that lou wouldn't be able to keep starting him without having a heart attack defending himself from pointed questions from reporters after games. Well then again, I just saw Lou's pregame interview, and he doesn't look like hes going to have a long leash

    because we don't particularly like him and Pie is going to the minors for him. pie wasn't playing anyway. do you think that not signing edmonds would have saved your precious pie? Pie is not very precious to me. I just want to see him play. Edmonds on the team lessens this liklihood, and based on his numbers the last two years, he might be a WORSE option than Reed, much less a defensive downgrade. like i've said in other threads, if edmonds doesn't hit, he won't be around for long. they gave absolutely nothing up to get him and are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle--i can't say that i blame them, although the likelihood of edmonds performing extremely well is remote. What do you consider "doesn't hit"? I bet he could put up a line of .230/.310/.350 for 2 months and stay on the team.
