  1. As unworthy as he has been, I'll stick with Ward thanks. Acquiring Gonzalez would be one of those "making a deal just to make a deal" deals. Let's platoon a LH/RT RF with another LH/RT RF! I don't understand their obsession with lefties at all. Our bench right now is Edmonds (L) or Johnson ® Fontenot (L) Ward (L) Blanco ® Cedeno ® I mean I know we have a lot of righties in the starting lineup, but you gotta have someone other than Ronny/Blanco you can count on coming off the bench as a righty.
  2. Dave Kaplan said at the end of Chicago Tribune live that he has heard the Cubs are looking at acquiring him. Not sure how legit the rumor is though with the Marlins being buyers seemingly.
  3. Is Lou trying to concentrate all of Soto's off days into a 2 week span? I swear we went a month without Soto starting.
  4. http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080730/SPORTS02/80730079
  5. Aaron Cook is quietly having a good year. I think right now it would be Webb, but Z deserves one if he keeps pitching like he has. I think Webb would get the nod over Haren in most writers minds because he'll probably finish with more wins and has the bigger name. Voloquez hasn't been as dominating and I expect him to tail off (not that I don't think he's a good pitcher - he is). Aaron Cook won't get enough pub.
  6. Right now the 3 main candidates in my mind are Z, Lincecum and Webb
  7. if an 825 OPS is pretty bad, I'll gladly take it. Which is strangely better than Ibanez's season numbers. That said, at least Ibanez is healthy and would probably be counted on to be healthy.
  8. Isn't he a 5-6 inning pitcher too? Hopefully we can get him to throw a lot of pitches early and get him out of the game. BTW, since May 3rd Parra is 2.93 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP. The WHIP is still rather high to sustain that ERA (Carlos Zambrano aside), but those numbers are pretty solid.
  9. Plus the Brewers had LRL coming up in the 9th with Fielder, Hart and Branyan up. If there was a good time to ease Eyre back in, this was it. Color me concerned about what's going to happen with him.
  10. Brewers fans...I know Ball and Glove touched on it but I thought it was odd that Shouse didn't come in to face Ward in the 8th. When Ward came up and it was clear Riske was stayed in, I was thinking "if there's an opportunity to say 'Yosted' this is the time"
  11. How are we going to get any value "selling" Eyre, if we ourselves are buyers. Buyers don't sell left handed relievers unless something is wrong.
  12. How does Sheets "own the Cubs"? 3.76 lifetime ERA against us 2.31 this year 3.91 ERA last year against them Didn't play the Cubs in 06 due to injury 5.49 ERA in 05 against them. 4.50 ERA in 04 against them. He's good against us, but not even up to his career averages.
  13. I still would have liked a lefty out of the pen. And I don't necessarily think that Samardzija is the answer yet. He does have nasty stuff but he is far from a polished pitcher. How do we rank with the other contenders in terms of lefty options out of the pen? Cotts toiled away in Iowa last year on a demotion, and Lou is scared to even use Eyre.
  14. I agree. This is our most significant regular season series in quite some time. Welcome to the boards. The series last August was probably bigger, but its still big none the less
  15. Umm yeah those types of fans make up 85% of our fan base, so we definitely understand where you are coming from. Also don't mind those drunken fools from our side. Just don't respond when they jeer at you like blabbering idiots and they will stop. But at the same time, don't assume all Cubs fans will be like that because I'm going tomorrow and I most certainly won't be like that.
  16. I'll say. Over his last 20 games: .407/.451/.840/1.291
  17. I can understand that, especially with the brewers righty dominated lineup, they tend to hit lefties very well. That's why I said that. I saw our lefties (Marshall, Hill, Lilly) get lit up by the brewers too many times. Braun especially murders lefties and hes on a rampage right now.
  18. I'm scared of Lilly getting lit up this game, but since June 1st, he's been pretty good. 5-2 3.41 ERA 1.28 WHIP 59 K in 63.1 IP (10 starts) Of course over that same time frame...CC: 7-0 1.60 ERA 0.84 WHIP 72 K in 73 IP (9 starts) Sabathia has also gone at least 8 IP in 7 of those 9 starts.
  19. Eyre - well rested Samardzija - Nope Gaudin - Nope Howry - well rested but who cares Marmol - only good for an inning Marshall - Probably still not available, in emergency can go 1 inning Cotts - Good to go. So assuming Lilly goes 6, it would probably be Cotts in the 7th, Howry in the 8th....and on the off chance Howry gets a few line drives directly at OFs, Marmol in the 9th. If he goes less than 6, then its looking like Eyre will finally get to pitch, but thats not a scenario that we really want.
  20. illiniguy, don't jump off the ledge just yet. Cubs are 4-6 in their last 10 road games, but the Brewers are 4-6 in their last 10 home games.
  21. His astounding 132.67 CQ (Crappiness Quotient) by far leads the team. Ronny Cedeno is second with 26.41.
  22. Would the Marlins like a second AAA team?
  23. Sheets hasn't looked good his last couple of starts. His control is still there but he has been very hittable. I think the offense is due to break out of its slump, while the Brewers have been starting to slump offensively except Braun. This is a case of teams possibly going in different directions (at least I hope). Sheets last few starts: 7 IP 4 H 3 R 2 BB 4K 5 IP 9 H 4 R 1 BB 3K 6 IP 5 H 3 R 2 BB 11K 5.2 IP 9 H 1 R 3 BB 6K 7 IP 9 H 5 R 2 BB 7K
  24. I'm going to say at least 10%. Let's just say on eBay there have been a lot of sellers from Wisconsin selling to a lot of buyers in Chicagoland
  25. That's what I'm saying. On paper the Brewers look to be big favorites tomorrow (add to the fact that they hit lefties pretty well), and on Thursday the Cubs look to be big favorites. I'm not saying their are gimmes because anything can happen, but likely those middle 2 games will decide who win the series or if it will be a split.
