    These are the types of days I think about how far away I thought we were in 2006. I lost hope that year and really couldn't picture the Cubs being successful anytime in the next 5 years. Please everyone on this board, whether you are an optimist, pessimist, casual fan or die hard, take a few moments during the last couple months of the season, and appreciate how awesome this is, because most of us have never experienced this in our lives, and might not again for awhile (at least this level of awesomeness).

    I know Tim Wakefield did in the 2003 ALCS, but he doesn't exactly tax his arm with his pitches. Becket pitched in 3 games of the 2003 NLCS, but didn't start game 7. Schilling started 3 games of the 2001 World Series. Wakefield pitched in extras in game 7, he did not start 3 games. And he only threw one pitch! Edit: Oh wait, he threw the inning before

    6 of the last 10 LCS have gone 7. I am not sure of the data myself, but I would prefer the opposition tries to pitch guys on short rest, especially if they go deep the game before. Thanks. I rarely watch the playoffs after the Cubs are eliminated. Who was the last pitcher to start 3 games of a 7 game series? Schilling in the 2001 World Series Beckett pitched in 3 games of the 2003 NLCS, starting 2 of them and pitching 4 innings in game 7 (:()

    What are your thoughts on Karstens was his 2 starts against the Cubs and Diamondbacks a fluke or the real deal?

    I think its close. I'm honored they picked the Cubs, but the DBacks and Angels are right there with us. It will be interesting to see the debate.

    24 for a playoff spot. 28 for the division. 24 is the Stl number -- I think the 2nd place NL East team (Phils or Mets) has an excellent chance of passing the Cards before a clinch date, so 24 is a little misleading. It's lower than 24 for the Phils, so 24 is accurate for the time being. Sure it's accurate, but my point is there's obviously a difference between a magic # to eliminate a team with no competition, compared to the same magic # to eliminate a team with a very good team right on their tail. Any bond future traders out there will recognize this effect as the cheapest to deliver option in T-bond futures. Right now Stl is the "cheapest to deliver" bond, but the 2nd cheapest bond (Phil) is a close 2nd, and it significantly affects pricing. I think your missing the point though. Any combination of 24 Cubs wins and/or 2nd place in WC teams losses = Cubs clinch playoffs. If the Phillies pass the Cardinals (and I will point out the Cardinals are still playing good baseball and just got Wainright back), they will assume the role as 2nd place in WC and will assume the role of lowering the Cubs magic number with each loss.

    If the Cubs go 16-16 the rest of the way, the Brewers would need to go 20-11 to tie us for the division, 21-10 to win it.     The Cubs just played a homestand against the Reds and Nationals and lost ground at the end of it :( Not our fault though...4/6 the rest of the season and we're division champs.

    AJ did that on purpose. If a player on the Cubs did that he would be our hero, but still. AJ totally stuck out an elbow slightly to make contact. I hate when umpires interpret a rule that literally. There is no way AJ hitting that player had any effect on the play.

    The Pirates/Brewers game has not been a model of clutch hitting. Both teams have 3 runs on 13 hits.
