  1. 6 more outs until the superpen is ready to slam the door.
  2. I don't think I've ever been more confident that an AB was going to end in a strikeout than when PCA got to 2 strikes there. Way too overeager
  3. Painted 2 pitches absolutely perfectly. Not much you can do with that.
  4. For anyone interested in going to a Cubs playoff game and are in the area, tickets are down to as little as $25 (with fees included) for today. If they win today they might be more tomorrow but still.
  5. We survived the first inning with Boyd. Now he goes 7 strong.
  6. I'm gonna be so annoyed about facing Arraez the next 2-3 days. I hate batters that always put the ball in play.
  7. Same, like I said in an earlier post, this feels so far away from the WS and the whole WC round feels fake to me. I have slight nerves but it feels nothing like 2015-2017 right now. If they get past this round I'll be more nerves.
  8. Damn Pivetta has a .503 OPS against at home and .681 on the road. .681 is still goodish but drastically higher away from Petco.
  9. I believe so yeah, to cut back on travel. The 1982 ALCS had 2 in Anaheim followed by 3 in Milwaukee.
  10. I'm excited but also I dunno the WC round still doesn't feel like the playoffs to me. It feels like we're playing in Dayton in the play in round, even if 2/3 of the playoff teams are also in the play in round.
  11. Nah, apparently NBC was perfectly fine with World Series day games as long as they were on the weekend (in fact, Game 4 of the 1984 World Series started at 1:30pm ET in Detroit). What would have changed is instead of the Cubs having home field in the World Series, they would have instead played the middle 3 at Wrigley (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). There was talk that if the Cubs made the playoffs again in 1985 that they would move the home games to St. Louis
  12. It can't be Taillon unless its on short rest so it would have to either be Shota with or without an opener, or a game patched together with some combo of Soroka, Assad, Rea and Civale. It might also depend on how game 1 plays out with regards to the result and how the staff is used in that one. Shota has been pretty bad lately but if we win game 1, I'd be willing to give him the start (or start post opener). He still has the best shot of giving us 5-6 shutdown innings.
  13. Boyd has obviously had a rough go of it the last month or so but I have more confidence in him that Shota. He's generally had one bad inning and mostly keeps it from going off the rails. Hoping the adrenaline from a playoff start gives his tired arm a boost and he pitches his ass off.
  14. More fun facts: There have been 20 Wild Card round series including the 8 in 2020. 16 of the 20 have been sweeps. 18 of the 20 have been won by the team that wins Game 1. In the 2 exceptions, Game 2 and 3 were won by the home team (A's over White Sox, Padres over Cardinals)
  15. Fun fact: The Cubs have played every NL team in a playoff game/series except 3: the Brewers, Phillies and Reds. While we can't play all 3 of them, they are all in the playoffs so we could potentially check off 2 of them if we advance far enough. Furthermore, by playing the Padres, we've played 11 different NL teams in the playoffs since 2003 (as opposed to 1984 before this series was set)
  16. It’s still TBD for me. I can’t see us fixing our defensive line and RB issues midseason. The oline has been a bit concerning but there’s enough talent that I have hope they figure it out. And then the mistakes, penalties, etc. if Ben is a competent coach that should improve
  17. Total game for this meme
  18. Similar to last years gauntlet. The average record of our last 8 opponents last year was like 12-5
  19. BJ not going for 2 is going to make this TD a death blow
  20. First Raiders punt of the game with a minute left in the 3rd
  21. I cannot believe in year 4 of a Poles rebuild we still have so many gaping holes
