  1. Sure but it did take a lot of vision to create a long term plan, and stick to it through losing, terrible attendance and fan apathy. Plus, as we've seen the the past *coughluismontanezcough* it is possible to mess even top 3 picks up.
  2. Wow thats really awesome. Too bad the Cubs are a bunch of choking losers. (sorry, I'm not ready yet)
  3. I might be thinking of someone else here, but I do believe that November 2 has something else in common between the two of us. Nope thats me. Luckily one of my friends has an extra ticket for me, so I'll be at the game. Nice bday present huh?
  4. Why can't they just watch tape to figure out how to get us out?
  5. That scares me to think of the Cardinals picking up Prior as a reclamation project. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3654950&name=olney_buster Between Carpenter, Mulder, and Clment, Im thinking that the Cards will be very gun shy when it comes to injury prone pitchers. Why not if theirs is the best offer and its 500K? That's not a lot of money for the potential upside.

  7. Man November 2 is like 35 days from now. Ugh.
  8. So all those cylinders un-clicked right after they demolished the Cubs? Like I said, "IMO"; and "the right time" being the 1st round of the playoffs. By the time the Dodgers got to the Phillies in the 2nd round, the Phillies had gained their own momentum. I think you're completely overestimating the role momentum has in baseball, but that's just me. If you can't quantify it, it doesn't exist
  9. I wouldn't give up on Fukudome just yet. I am a bit worried though becuase Fuk is clearly in Lou's doghouse, and I can't remember a player who has made his way out of there yet.
  10. Al Yellon also seems to think us trading for Matt Cain, then packaging him and other players for RICKY NOLASCO is a great idea. That said, I have no idea how likely the probability is, it's a unique situation without much precedent. Matt Cain AND Hinshaw for Derrek Lee. The same Matt Cain that is being proposed would take Fielder and Hardy from the Brewers.
  11. I can't see a scenario where someone takes Soriano. I don't think we could give him away, and eat 50% of his salary. I just can't see it.
  12. I just realized that last week's quirky ref from the Bears/Falcons game is doing tonights game. That put a smile to my face.
  13. Hey maybe we'll even win a playoff game one of those years!
  14. after 100 years, yeah, its WS or bust for me. However, I would have settled for going down valiantly in the playoffs not yay, we won another division flag, vacation time. wow, you're 108 years old or whatever? that's crazy. i mean, i'm only 23, and didn't really follow the team until i was like 10, so i've got 13 years to claim. i mean, it wouldn't make sense for me to whine about the team's performance in the years before i existed, so i assume you're not doing it either. Why can't I? If the Cubs had won in 1982, the year before I was born, I would never have to grow up hearing about the team's inept past, curses, black cats, etc. If I, as a Cubs fan, have to carry the baggage of the teams past failures, I sure as hell can complain about it. Pre-2006, do you think Cardinals fans born after 1982 spent any less time ripping on Cubs fans for their historic drought because they hadn't experienced a title in their lifetime? Seriously, pretending the 100 year story is meaningless to any Cubs fan who isn't 100 years old is rather ridiculous. There's a difference between having to suffer the idiocy of mediots and opposing fan mouthbreathers and talking about "100 years of suffering" True. I should have made it clear there is a difference.
  15. Ryan O'Malley?
  16. But really, do you think the Cubs are serious players for Peavy? It would be nice, but I highly doubt it. I don't. I just don't want the Cardinals to get him.
  17. Al Yellon's solution was terrible. First of all, he thinks you can trade Lee for Matt Cain AND a lefty reliever. Then he decides that they should acquire half of the Baltimore Orioles (and not one of them Brian Roberts). Finally, he suggests trading Cain and others for Ricky Nolasco. Ugh

  19. Kinda like how they said Thursday or Friday last week?
  20. I just can't believe we are 7 weeks into the season, and you could make a case that the Bears should have won all of them. (notice I said 'SHOULD', not 'COULD') Can you imagine an alternate world where Greg Olsen doesn't fumble twice in Carolina, the Bears D doesnt give up 10 points in 5 mins against TB, and the Bears kick off to the Falcons, and they are sitting there 7-0, with 5 more home games left in the season? We'd be completely ecstatic talking about Super Bowls and whether they can beat the AFC in a down year. I know its crazy to think like this, but around this point you have to consider that its possible to win it all. Likely? No, we are as flawed as any team in the NFC. But this is a year of parity, and right now there is no team in no situation I would not consider the Bears able to win in. If we can squeeze off a 10-6 division crown (which would take a 6-3 finish), we might be able to get lucky and win in the playoffs.
  21. Andy Dolan at desipio (who hates us btw), claims to have a source in the know and presents this information: Some more tidbits:
  22. Looking at the Bears/Packers schedules the rest of the way, their schedule in terms of opponents is exactly the same except for one game, the Bears play the Rams, while the Packers still have to play Carolina. But in terms of H/R, the Bears have 5 more home games, while the Packers have 4 left. Schedule favors the Bears but not by a ton.
  23. He had a pretty decent second half yesterday (Orlovsky)
  24. Olsen and Forte in the last couple years. Jury is still out on Chris Williams. Maybe Angelo's getting better? I wouldn't trust Angelo to make the right decision on a first round skill position player, but I do trust him on the offensive line and finding talented offensive players after the first. Do you not consider TE a skill position? Or you think the Olsen pick was lucky? Wasn't he a projected mid-round pick that slipped to the 30th pick? Not saying he shouldn't get credit for it, but its not like it was a huge reach.
