  1. That's what I'm thinking. I could see Angels offer a deal around Brandon Wood and Nick Adenhart among others to the Padres, and Towers is foaming at the mouth for at the deal and he goes to see if Peavy will waive his NTC, only to watch Peavy reject the trade. It wouldn't surprise me if Peavy/Axelrod tell Towers that it is either the Cubs or he'll stay with the Padres. I think to a degree, the LAA talk is a bluff. They have have Santana, Saunders, and Weaver for the next 3-4 years. Right now they are working on an extention for Lackey. That leaves them with 1 open rotation spot throughout the course of Peavy's contract (and Escobar's signed through next year and I believe healthy again). Not to mention that they are a below average team offensively and have been vehemently against trading away their prospects. It doesn't really add up at all. And they'd most likely be losing Tiex and a lot of the money they would have available to sign a potent bat if they traded for him. I'm not sure the talk is a bluff, but I don't think they as serious as the media is making them out to be. But who knows?
  2. Yeah, I wasn't saying go man on every play. But when they are consistently getting 15-20 yards on third and long right up the middle with no adjustments all night, its bothersome. They had obviously exposed a hole in the zone and were hitting it all night. Try man for one play, and if it doesn't work go back to zone if you have to. Obviously if we got any damn pressure on the QB in those situations then its a non issue, but we weren't.
  3. 2 things that bothered me: -That fake punt call. Winning with 9 minutes left not even quite at midfield and you try a fake punt? You never want your biggest pass in the game to that point thrown by your punter. That said, I could only see the scoreboard replay but I completely thought he caught it and the ground caused the fumble. I guess my friend said he didn't get a second foot down with control or something? -The defense should have ADJUSTED (I know, not a word the Bears staff uses) and used more man coverage on third and long situations instead of letting the Saints go over the middle for 15 yards EVERY TIME. Frustrating to know exactly whats coming and not see them stop it. If I knew it was coming, they had to have right?
  4. It's kinda funny that in spite of this exciting win, the next time the Bears step on the field, they could theoretically be eliminated from the playoffs.
  5. I dunno. Carolina keeps winning. I heard Jacobs might not play this weekend or something. At some point not having Plax, not having Jacobs........you can't just dip into the depth chart forever and still win all your games. They looked pretty average last week too. Sure there's a chance. If they do, that means they likely lost to Dallas this weekend, hurting our wild card hopes. I realize thats not what we are focusing on, but in a perfect world, we'd be in a position to get that playoff spot if the division falls through.
  6. The difference is they think they have a case because the NFL's drug hotline told some of those players that it was acceptable to use this Starcaps substance. The NFL's stance has always been you are ultimately responsible for what you put in your body, so it shouldn't matter what the hotline says. It's not just a cut and dry case involving players testing positing for starcaps and then complaining about it.
  7. Don't forget about the 2/3 Saints players that "play" the Bears tonight too. Deuce is inactive tonight at least.
  8. Alfonso Soriano Rich Harden Re signing Zambrano Lou Piniella Fukudome (before we knew hot crappy he'd be this year) Harden
  9. Ugh, this might be a valid argument 3 years ago. There is a difference between caring and being stupid.
  10. I would think that if teams were offering higher quality players than the Cubs were offering it wouldnt be a 6-for-1 or 7-for-1 deal. But then again most teams don't have the depth to offer 3 top 100 prospects in a trade for anyone, and if they did they would all hesitate to give them up for one pitcher.
  11. Yeah but Towers is getting desperate right now. He might start begging to Peavy/Axelrod that he can accept a trade to LAA so that at least he has some negotiating room.
  12. Great post. We don't have enough insightful posts like this on here.
  13. The matter apparently won't be resolved until after the playoffs. On another note, doesn't this set a bad precedent? I mean - if the court keeps going with this, they are opening the NFL up to litigation every single time a player gets suspended, right? Yeah I guess you have a point, but this was obviously a unique case. I don't think most courts are going to hold up suspensions for an illegal steroid. The worst that will come out of this is that the NFL might have a more difficult time enforcing diuretic related suspensions.
  14. Also, some breaking bad news for the Bears: The matter apparently won't be resolved until after the playoffs.
  15. According to SportsClubStats, their odds are 13.4% right now. If they win tonight, their odds go up to 23.5% If the Vikings lose on Sunday as well, their odds go up to 30.7% If the Cowboys lose on Sunday as well, their odds go to 31.7% If the Falcons lose on Sunday as well, their odds go up to 32.2% If the Eagles lose on Sunday as well, their odds go up to 32.8% If the Panthers lose..........33.1% If the Redskins lose..........33.4%
  16. Are you near Chicago? If so it will be on Local TV...
  17. We don't have a great shot at the playoffs even with a win tonight, but I'm still getting nervous as losing will give us like a 2% chance (vs. like 20% right now and 35% if we win) edit: SportsClubStats has it like this: Right now: 13.4% If we go 3-0 the rest of the year: 64.5% If we go 2-1 the rest of the year: 13.6% If we go 1-2 or worse the rest of the year: Eliminated
  18. LOL, Towers is getting backed into a wall Yeah, unless Peavy accepts a trade to the Angels (which might be likely) or Towers wants to trade him to a division rival in the Dodgers, the Cubs are the only team he can really trade him to. I don't know if a deal will get done but I find it hard to believe we have seen the last of Peavy to the Cubs reports. Didn't another team approach Axelrod yesterday about revising his list of teams and he basically said that he wasn't going to adjust his list and that he'd only goto the original 5 places.

  20. What are your thoughts on Jason Kendall destroying his bone stepping on first? Touche....but should he have slid headfirst into the base and gotten there later? I think it's worth the risk. You're wrong, sliding feet first was fastest in the clinical trials. Dammit, I should have read the study report more carefully.
  21. I didn't want Ibanez at all. But if the Rays can convince Bradley to go there, the Phillies get Ibanez, the White Sox get Abreu, does that leave us Dunn? I know the Rays are the flavor of the month, but if given similar offers, I cant see Bradley chosing the Rays over the Cubs. You never know what the season will bring, but Im guessing that the Rays had their chance, and the Yanks and Sawx are going to resume their dominance over the division. Id be guessing you are pretty wrong. Tampas season wasnt a fluke. Seriously. Their most talented players have made little impact on the big league roster yet.
  22. I think the majority of us believe the deal isn't dead. How alive it is though...that is where you will get a difference of opinion. My chances of a deal by day: Monday: 60% Tuesday: 75% Wednesday: 50% Thursday (post talk is dead comments): 20%

  24. Hey Deuce, your thoughts on Reed Johnson throwing out his back diving into first (and getting out by a hair when running past the bag would have made him safe and tied the game) in Tampa last June? I seriously remember thinking when that happened "I am going to remember this moment in case I ever talk to Deucebaseman again"
