  1. They are arguing that they didn’t know about the sign stealing until Wednesday of game week and having to focus on changing signs hurt their focus on preparing for the game or something. Of course there’s always rumors about this being the worst kept secret in football and all the big ten teams were talking about it for the last 2 seasons so not sure how you could be shocked. Who knows… Michigan insiders today are claiming Michigan is launching an investigation into OSU as they found ties between the PI firm investigating them and Ryan Day’s family. That in itself is strange but isn’t necessarily illegal, but there’s a question of how the PI managed to obtain a spreadsheet on Michigan’s cloud that was sent to WaPo. Doesnt absolve Michigan of anything they may have done illegally but it does add some complexity and additional intrigue to this story if true.
  2. I still remember during the commercial break before Montogomery got the final out, I did 2 things: 1) did a quick refresh of NSBB (which had so much traffic it was difficult to use on my cell phone) and 2) looked at Michael Martinez's career splits vs LHP. Yes I know there was the weight of 108 years of failure. Yes it was possible Montogomery could have been nervous and wild with so much on the line and hit Martinez, or maybe Martinez bloops a weak single or whatever, but when I saw those splits, I felt a strong sense of calm that things were going to end positively very shortly. And it did. I still watch the recording I took of watching the final out on a TV outside Dags pizza on Southport and Addison, everyone celebrating and then just sprinting down Addison towards Wrigley Field. In fact, I'm going to watch that right now 🙂
  3. I know that Michigan will probably roll over Purdue this weekend similar to the rest of their games, but can you imagine the uproar if they won like 28-24? Coming off a bye, in a trap game (@ PSU next weekend), against a coach who handled Michigan's offense better than any other team they played last year. I know Purdue sucks this year but crazier things have happened
  4. I've spoken to a couple people from La Grange about JJ and honestly haven't heard a bad thing said about him other than light complaining about going to IMG, but also understanding it was the COVID season. Seems like a genuinely good dude and hope he has NFL success unless he goes to the Packers.
  5. I would cry tears of joy. And then I would cry tears of sadness for JJ once I realize that he's destined to fail here.
  6. I used to try to justify some of the odd moves Poles did by saying 'maybe he knows what he's doing and we don't, but its hard to defend trading yet another high second round pick for a 2 month rental when your team is 2-6 and then hoping you can convince him to resign after the fact. This comes after trading a high 2nd for Claypool. Both positions of desperate need heading into their respective seasons that werent addressed in the previous offseason and had a hand in torpedoing the season to that point. Now it sounds like the reporting is that we lowballed Jaylon Johnson so badly that he won't negotiate with us anymore? What are we doing here?
  7. this is probably from the same reporting as the tidbit posted above but it didn’t include anything about the falcons having an extension worked out with Sweat and wanting to go there. Will definitely be a franchise tag which is bizarre because Jaylon Johnson also is refusing to negotiate with the Bears anymore and will become a FA meaning the Bears will have to decide to franchise one of them and let the other walk for nothing. I don’t think Poles is very good at this…
  8. for now or forever?
  9. The Harbaugh thing is strange only because there are reports today that Harbaugh is preparing to sign a lucrative extension this week with Michigan. 2 caveats: 1) depending on the size of the buyout, that doesn't mean he couldn't still leave for the NFL and 2) there is apparently language in there that addresses the the NCAA investigation into Michigan right now and potential penalties. And I still highly highly doubt that the Bears would want someone like Harbaugh. Poles definitely doesn't seem like someone ready to hire someone who will siphon off his power (if he's not fired)
  10. Pretty sure teams can grant you permission to speak with/negotiate with one of their players. Why wouldn't washington...if Sweat agrees to terms on an extension they are able to theoretically get a higher return for him.
  11. Right...think of how much leverage Sweat would have right now if the Bears traded a 2nd round pick for 1/2 seaso of him and didn't have at least the framework of an extension agreed to. I mean I wouldn't put it past the Bears to do something that stupid, but on the surface it makes no sense.
  12. lol Bears are gonna lose 33rd overall pick instead of the 32nd overall pick. Hopefully it turns out better! I’m sure it will be better than Claypool though if Jaylon gets traded, it’s still incredibly stupid as hell but the Bears have also invested a lot of draft resources on the secondary and we have been bitching about not building through the trenches. That said, why not horsefeathers have both players?
  13. horsefeathers you are right, not sure how i misread that. The bears haven’t won in the Superdome since….1991
  14. This is actually still the most watchable and exciting team in Chicago. And they suck
  15. I think I’m all the way out on Poles if he lets more homegrown talent go despite being in a great spot financially.
  16. Bears/Saints facts: Current Streak: Saints have won 7 in a row Last Saints win: Mitch Trubisky NVP playoff game in 2021 Last Bears win: 2008 in OT. I was at this game and if I recall correctly, the Bears got the ball 1st in OT, got a huge pass interference call to put them in FG range, and Gould nailed it Last Bears win in the state of Louisiana: 2005 in Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina. Believe that was also won on a last second FG Last Bears win in the Superdome: 2003 in a game I have no recollection of and was back when the Saints were still an annual joke of a franchise.
  17. Struggling to think of 5.... Jaylon Johnson over Nathan Vasher, Edmunds over Hunter Hillenmeyer (if Edmunds can play weak side), Jenkins over Ruben Brown, DJ Moore over Berrian and maybe Fields over Grossman?
  18. Following Kyle's drastic shifts in QBs is funny. 100% of it is all logical and based on doing what I don't do which is watch tape and analyze performances. It's just funny because I keep losing track of whether Kyle is pro or anti Fields/Caleb Williams/Bagent in any given moment.
  19. This whole thing about marquee teams playing televised exhibition games against each other is new to me. Is this going to be an annual thing now? I know at least 1-2 of them were put on for charity. Good to see that Hunter Dickinson still can’t beat Illinois.
  20. lol, had to run to Walgreens and couldn’t resist turning it on to hear how angry they would be.
  21. Omg the postgame show has had multiple callers praising Bagent edit: specifically Hamp and OB to be fair which is meatball central. They hate Fields and the complaints about him are ridiculous. Right now they are yelling about him wearing sunglasses during the game and not standing next to Getsy.
  22. I’m only still watching this to see if Moore can get me a few more fantasy points so I don’t have to rely on Gibbs too much tomorrow
