I still remember during the commercial break before Montogomery got the final out, I did 2 things: 1) did a quick refresh of NSBB (which had so much traffic it was difficult to use on my cell phone) and 2) looked at Michael Martinez's career splits vs LHP. Yes I know there was the weight of 108 years of failure. Yes it was possible Montogomery could have been nervous and wild with so much on the line and hit Martinez, or maybe Martinez bloops a weak single or whatever, but when I saw those splits, I felt a strong sense of calm that things were going to end positively very shortly. And it did.
I still watch the recording I took of watching the final out on a TV outside Dags pizza on Southport and Addison, everyone celebrating and then just sprinting down Addison towards Wrigley Field. In fact, I'm going to watch that right now 🙂
