  1. Because he couldn't catch a blooper with his back to home plate in a swirling wind, he can't play defense anymore? But yeah I believe the numbers say that he isn't the same defensive 1B as he was earlier in his career. Also, am I the only one that still isn't willing to trash on Derrick Lee and feels somewhat confident he'll at least be a decent contributor this year? I'm actually more worried about Soto than I am Lee, today's home run aside. No Lee offensively is done Im afraid. His bat is so slow its scary. He just isnt the same player, and part of that may be playing with a herniated disk, but I think hes done. See I remember people commenting on how amazingly slow Edmonds' bat was when we first signed him and he struggled, but then he ended up hitting 20 HRs for us and had a pretty good offensive season. Lee is 33 and while he is old enough to be declining, I don't feel like he's at all old enough to be completely washed up. I would be willing to bet at some point this year he'll have a halfway decent stretch of ball.
  2. Yahoo says 14mph, out to center. I never would have dreamed that Theriot would have a multi-homer game! He actually had a previous multi homer game back in 2006. Edit: Here is the game. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200609170.shtml Eric Milton + wind blowing way out = 6 HRs for the Cubs that day.
  3. I picked him off the waivers in my league and I'm thinking about getting rid of him after tonight. I really don't know whats up with him, but I think he's only had 1-2 halfway decent starts all year. If you can burn a roster spot on him and wait for him to recover, I would. But if not, I would definitetly consider dropping him. But whatever you do, do not start him until he has like 2 good starts in a row.

  5. I wouldn't worry about it...swine flu has killed what 4 people in the US? I bet more people have died of bear attacks than swine flu in the US since the disease burst onto the scene. OK maybe not many, but the numbers are similar.
  6. I would. It's been raining off and on so far today, and tonights forecast calls for severe thunderstorms with hail possible. But who knows.
  7. Alex Brown is getting the worst tail of anyone though. http://assets.chicagobears.com/uploads/photo/thumbs/3977.jpg Alex Brown is going to be a rich man someday :)
  8. I actually don't mind the players hating on the fans. My theory is that if the players turn on the fans, they will band together and want to win for themselves, not the other 10 million Cubs fans living and dying for a championship. It would be a lot easier to win in the playoffs without the weight of Cubs nation riding on you.
  9. This is what the Trib said about the gesture:
  10. Congrats man. This has been a good week for you :)
  11. Interesting... I was at the game and didn't hear it. Doesn't mean it didn't happen though.
  12. Come on Ducks! Give me some hope that we'll have home ice advantage for the conference finals! It would remind me of the Arizona Cardinals inexplicably having HFA for the NFC Championship game with a 9-7 record.
  13. Weather doesn't look to positive tomorrow...hopefully you get to do it. Will they reschedule if the game gets rained out?
  14. Just repeating what others have said about the Wings...I just can't see a possibility that the Hawks beat the Wings. They play a very similar style as the Hawks, but they do it better. That's why we've had so much trouble beating them this year. The games may have been semi-close, but the Wings have clearly outplayed the Hawks in all of those games. That home and home set around New Years was during a period where the Hawks hadn't lost a game in regulation in a month and were just dominating teams nightly. Then they played the Wings twice in a row and got beaten pretty good. The Winter Classic game is as close to a playoff game as you'll see in the regular season - meaning its a game where the desire to win is greater than any other single regular season game, and you can be sure the intensity was ramped up, and the Wings beat the Hawks pretty handily. The Hawks have definitely surprised in this playoffs, and are playing really good hockey right now, so anything is possible. But I'd be willing to bet a Hawks-Wings series would end in 5 games in favor of Detroit. But who knows, I'll still hold out hope...anything is possible with this team!
  15. Jenks, its really not the Brewers we are ripping, its really just brewersbrewers that we are ripping on. I have no problem with the Brewers and actually rooted for them to make the playoffs last year. But when one of your fans comes on here hyping up Braun's defense because he made 0 errors last year and then calling us jealous because the Brewers are 1/2 games ahead of the Cubs in the standings in May after finishing 2nd to the Cubs the last 2 seasons, we can't help ourselves.
  16. Wait...he really signed a contract that would give him an average of 6.5 million the first 2 years and then drops to 900k in the third year? Why the hell would a team offer him that contract, knowing that this would surely happen when the drop in salary came? You know Thomas Jones planned to do this the second he signed his contract unless he sucked or was injured.
  17. The Reds win tonight drops the Cubs back to sole possession of 4th place.
  18. Just so you know, not every hockey game features 12 total goals :)
  19. I know its highly unlikely to go otherwise, but c'mon the other series isn't over yet. Go Anaheim in game 6!
  20. OMG This is amazing!!! I took my friend with me that's never watched a full hockey game all the way through. I think he's gonna be disappointed at every other hockey game he ever sees. What a HUGE HAT TRICK by Kane in a critical game! Clutch!!
  21. This crowd is absolutely amazing right now. The roof is about to collapse
