  1. Wonder what Bears odds are of 1 overall now. This is starting to feel real
  2. Copa Draw for US: USA Uruguay Panama Bolivia Hardest pot 2 opponent by ranking, 2nd hardest pot 3 opponent but will have the easiest pot 4 opponent unless Trinidad somehow beats Canada. Seems like a pretty solid path to advance for the US
  3. I'm not going to dox this PlaymakerDavid dude, but its pretty easy to find information on him online. Based on his LinkedIn profile, he definitely has connections within the professional sports world, but its also a stretch to assume (based solely on his LI experience) he has the kind of connections that would be in the know about one of the most secretive FA recruitments of all time. He also definitely also has connections to Vegas and famous poker players (Phil Helmuth looks like an investor in one of the companies he was involved with that was recently acquired for $54m) so maybe that's where its coming from. But either way, this is not some random dude hiding behind a twitter handle. He might be getting info that isn't correct but I don't know if hes just completely making horsefeathers up.
  4. Let’s go PlaymakerDavid!! Could absolutely be making all this horsefeathers up and in fact almost certainly is but whatever. He was super down on the Cubs chances last night for the first time and now all the sudden is going back to being very positive.
  5. Kind of sounds like the Cubs were in on Soto more than we might have thought?
  6. Past tense like already went to Japan or is in Japan now? Interested to know if he went before all the reports about the Cubs being out. Seems like quite a wasted effort to go to Japan if you weren't willing to offer the rumored rate (not saying that's definitely why the Cubs are out or if they're even out at all)
  7. So there are rumors that Ohio State is offering MHJ NIL that is at the level of what a high 1st round pick would make in order to return to Ohio State. How would this change your opinion on the direction the Bears should go at the top of the draft if he ends up staying?
  8. If kickers make the Hall then I think so yeah. Even in this era of hyper accurate kickers his numbers stand out. He made so many clutch kicks (except the one where horsefeathers Trestman had him kick on 2nd down in OT against the Vikings which cost us a playoff spot but I digress) and never missed a single kick in the postseason (20-for-20) Just googling it though, only 2 pure placekickers have ever made the HOF so I guess it would be tough.
  9. I'm sure the Dodgers have a pretty high view of their roster too lol
  10. Unfortunately PlaymakerDavid doesn’t share CharlestheCat’s optimism
  11. As we all know he always attends the winter meetings.
  12. At some point around 2021 I looked at the player with the most WAR for the Cubs drafted outside the first round under Theo and the answer was David Bote. Obviously can’t be true now but I thought that was pretty damning. The first round picks they made almost all contributed to a World Series but they were developing horsefeathers outside of guys with first round pedigree. Yes you are correct that we don’t need to sign a fancy free agent to be good. But I don’t want to compare us to the Astros I want to compare us to the Dodgers. It hurts my civic pride to see every team in this city act like a cheapass when it comes to acting like a big market club. But I should just accept that this is not how Chicago teams operate and be thankful that the Cubs are able to spend big when they feel like it. (Aka we’re not the Rays and can sustain a high level payroll)
  13. We know he wanted a shitload of money but do we know if he was dead set on 10 years? Would he have accepted $5m more in AAV in exchange for less years? Also we have no idea if thats really what happened here, I'm really just speculating based on past things Jed has said and past FA pursuits. It's possible Ohtani just doesn't have an interest in playing for Chicago. Or the Cubs have a competitive offer out but his camp hasn't met with them in person so they can see the writing on the wall.
  14. I think they were interested in all of them. I just think Jed doesn't want to give out 10 year deals and will under no circumstances bend his principles. He will happily give these guys the money they want in terms of AAV, possibly even paying more in AAV if they are willing to take less years. So far Dansby Swanson is the only one that has been receptive to that over the last 2 offseasons. Jed would rather go into a season with holes than lock in players for 8+ years. We just have to accept that our head baseball guy has a plan and it doesn't involve locking players in for a decade at increasingly higher costs. I don't mind the general strategy but I HATE the unwillingness to make exceptions. If you aren't willing to make an exception for Ohtani, you aren't going to for anyone.
  15. There's that Cody Bellinger fella, a steal at $300m. Not surprised about the bullpen seeing as not having enough options was a large factor in sinking last season. Not that being reactive is a good thing but I think he realized that the all-scrubs bullpen plan has its flaws.
  16. Not sure if this was mentioned. Morosi was on the score this afternoon and this is what he said: It's just speculation and possible Morosi isn't plugged in so take with a grain of salt. There's also trade possibilities out there that wouldn't be FAs. If Hoskins is the biggest add is our payroll going to go down next year? lol
  17. That’s what ESPN wants. They’re complaining that he’s not making a spectacle out of his FA
  18. That was my thought. I guess he prefers that it not be out there that they’re out on Ohtani for leverage on other things they’re working on. Or maybe they’re doing his agent a solid by helping him raise the price by appearing to remain in.
  19. Nightengale: Hey Tom, hope you and the rest of the Ricketts family are enjoying Nashville. Hey I wanted to ask, how did Jed convince you to offer $500m for Ohtani? PTR: Wait what?!? I’m not paying $500 million for a horsefeathers baseball player. No damn way, we’re out on Ohtani.
  20. So Boob seems to have changed his article attributing the source of the “Cubs are out” story from a “high ranking official” to a “high ranking Cubs official”
  21. Gotta say, I love good Ricketts/FO rant but seems like a really strange time to go off on the Cubs organization.
  22. that’s a positive update
  23. lol I didn't see this posted: ok this is starting to get fun finally
  24. It was so funny I had to say it twice
  25. Jed - "Ohtani? I don't know nothing about any Ohtani. What's an Ohtani?"
