  1. Once again, runner thrown out trying to score on the contact play. 2 more outs on the bases today to add to our league leading total
  2. Would be so nice to have an extra bench bat up here instead of playing a man short for the 6th consecutive game
  3. Ok Mastro here…GIDP, pop fly or Sac fly?
  4. Everyone knows you’re gonna ground into a DP Madrigal, just get it over with.
  5. Looking forward to the 10th when the Cubs will finally have a runner on 2nd base
  6. Wait holy horsefeathers he only had 67 pitches through 7? I didn’t realize that. He could probably go 10 at this point
  7. Hit a solo HR, get a few quick outs and let’s finish this baby up in under 2 hours
  8. Well thanks to Bellinger’s hit we’ve no longer been retired in order through the entire game.
  9. Ugh that single sucks because it extends the pitch count. If he gets this 3rd out quickly though he should be ok to pitch into the 8th
  10. I don’t understand why we don’t send down Mastro for Vazquez. Maybe he won’t hit here but Mastro has a .421 OPS so not like he has a high bar to clear. He’s good defensively (or so I’m told) and he’s on the 40 man
  11. Madrigal, Mastrobuoni, Gomes. This should be good
  12. The 3 hits today had an xBA of .010, .060 and .120
  13. Maybe the Ricketts will decide to spend more when he sees how much beer sales have dropped by having an offense that quickly gets out every inning. in reality he’ll balance that by downgrading our pitching to try to get more 11-9 type games
  14. 54 pitches though 5 lmao. Good stuff Shota
  15. Leadoff man gets on, immediately a DP is hit. Just how things are going for our Cubs right now...
  16. Obviously not at all against trading for good players but feel like they should focus on areas of need unless they felt like someone like Wicks can be very effective out of the bullpen.
  17. Over the last 30 games, the Pirates have scored more than 5 runs in a game 3 times. I'm sure you know where this is going but 2 of those 3 games were against the Cubs over the last week. Granted the other time was against the Brewers also this week so maybe their bats are breaking out of their horrific slump but damn guys.
  18. I just don't think Jeds the guy who is going to give you a flashy offseason unless things fall into his lap. He's gonna build a mid-80s win team, assess where their holes are midseason and go out and try to fortify the roster. I'm guessing his long term hope is that the top prospects eventually come up and give him cheap star level production and right now he's just biding his time by putting out playoff caliber teams (albeit incomplete ones). Things are never as bad as they are at their worst and never as good as they are at their best. And if this is their worst (going 8-12 in a 20 game stretch) then they're probably pretty decent. But we havent seen whether we've hit the low point of this funk yet I suppose.
  19. I'm also certain unless they really fall off a cliff that they will make significant moves. I know Jed is pretty conservative and all that but he's not going to let this team fall 1 game short of the playoffs again.
  20. Nah we're fine. Every season in Cubs history has had a stretch like this and there are numerous legitimate reasons why the Cubs are struggling. And we'll see how the next week plays out but this stretch of struggling? 8-12 over a 20 game stretch. Not great at all but its not like we're free falling (yet). The hitting is the only thing that concerns me as it seems like we've been in a funk for awhile but there is still quite a bit of room to improve there. I don't think the Cubs are going to win 95 games or anything but they're probably in the 83-88 win range IMO (which actually means we'll play at a worse pace than we've played so far the rest of the year)
  21. ERAs of the last 12 starters against the Cubs: Peralta - 3.63 Darvish - 2.43 Vasquez - 6.32 Cease - 2.45 Jones - 2.89 Skenes - 3.00 Falter - 4.15 Lopez - 1.34 Sale - 2.54 Morton - 3.52 Jones - 2.89 Skenes - 3.00 (live ERA)
  22. I don't know if there is a specific number they have in mind but they've been very much babying him all year in terms of not letting him go deep into games and/or throwing a lot of pitches.
