When the Cubs blew that 8-0 lead and lost, I said that it was fun (in a jerkish way) to see everyone who went to sleep with the big lead waking up and reacting to the loss. Seeing everyone react to the win the next morning is definitely more fun.
Enjoyed this read. Makes me feel better as I saw all the praise for Keegan and was thinking 'pump the breaks' because he was not really throwing strikes at all in either inning. Felt like he got fortunate but seems like a logical strategy that worked.
2 games in a row really with all the baserunners late for the Mariners and getting bailed out by 2 gidps.
I will now say that these 2 games combined make up for the blown 8-0 lead in San Diego in my mind.
It absolutely does not make up for the deflected liner that Dansby let drop which almost singlehandedly cost the Cubs the playoffs last year but I digress
Damn didn’t even think about the fact that Adbert would be down today. Yikes. This really does feel like last year desperately trying to piece together a win with the crappy part of the pen
Bases loaded and we strike out on 2 pitches way out of the strike zone. Very frustrating situational hitting. Nico got the job done but to do so he took 2 pretty clear strikes and got his base hit on a ball almost over his head.
Ugh we’re gonna have to sweat out the bottom of the inning.
Just like last September where we take the lead in extras but don’t put up a crooked number leading to a ton of pressure on the closer.
Yeah I’m not an especially strong defender of Madrigal or anything but I’d definitely prefer him hitting there over Canario. Plus for the lineup issues you mentioned.
Feels like this entire month was designed to remind us of last September constantly. Losing the games we have a lead in late, now we’re in another stressful extra innings game in Arizona
