  1. Mark Prior was pretty big. and he got hit on the elbow with a line drive, his pitching elbow, just when he looked like he was putting it together. his [expletive] pitching elbow Eh at least he helped lead us to an NLCS before fading into oblivion
  2. Jurrjens then Hanson, we messed up by losing today. At least we have Cinci this weekend. We should be able to get 1-2 there.
  3. Remember when we came into Turner Field in I want to say August of 2008 and just destroyed them in a 3 game series to the point where the Braves announcers were making comments left and right about how good we were and how it looked like a long drought was going to end that October. *sigh*
  4. Do you think Rickets is sitting there saying "Holy [expletive] what did I just do?" and then remembering first gate of the year is only 7 days away.
  5. Obviously it's just one game and it wouldn't be a big deal if it was game 64 or something, but I wondered why all spring I wasn't excited at all for baseball season, and part of me thought it was because I didn't think the Cubs were going to be good at all this year. But I shook that off thinking that its just me being pessimistic. Watching this game isn't calming my fears. Here were the things I was worried about: 1. Starting pitching 2. Soto not regaining 2008 form 3. Soriano not bouncing back 4. Fontenot continuing to suck 5. The Bullpen being bad So far so bad. Hopefully games 2-162 will be better. It's not fun to get whalloped on Opening Day, now I feel bad for what we did every year in the early to mid Oughts on Opening Day. Mets, Reds and Diamondbacks, I am sorry.
  6. That was predictable. Please send Samadrzija back to Iowa for an entire season. I'm sick of him getting shot after shot for no reason.
  7. Name them. I bet almost all of them missed bats at a decent rate. Greg Maddux in the later part of his career (2002-2008) put up a 3.92 ERA and struck out only 14.1% of the batters he faced http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/maddugr01.shtml?redir#2002-2008-sum:pitching_simple I'm at work so I'm not putting a ton of thought into this, so I'm likely to be contradicted, but that's just the first name I thought of when you asked me to name one.
  8. Kyle I hear what your saying man, and on the surface it seems like it would make sense, but I can't see how your argument that you have to miss bats to be a good pitcher works when there have been far too many pitchers, HOF ones at that, who made a living pitching to contact.
  9. Knowing Z's history of short Opening Day outings, do you think Marshall prepared for today like a start?
  10. Hey at least the White Sox and Cardinals both won.
  11. all those seasons ended exactly the same way though False. In 2006 we ended the season with a win. 07 and 08 with losses.
  12. No worries guys. If Z gives us a bad start, we still have Randy Wells, Tom Gorzelanny and Carlos Silva ready to go later in the week. That's the beauty of having a rotation that goes 5 deep.
  13. The range of this team in general is going to give us fits this year.
  14. Bradley would have homered there if not for that racist in the third row. Also to blame are the Chicago media, the local iron workers 401, the philly fanatic and everyone who has ever been to Disney World.
  15. I decided to wait until his BA was above his wait to continue that. Luckily this will be a lot easier this year.
  16. I've been in the Navy for 13 years. Ive been stationed in various places in the US and out. I've met and befriended literally hundreds of baseball fans. Most fans only interact with people in their local area, or on boards such as these, but I work with and hang out with fans from almost every state on a daily basis. In my experience the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry is only relevant to Cub and Cardinal fans. The San Fran-LA and Mets-Phillies rilvary is much more acknowledged by the casual fan than Cards-Cubs. At least in my circles, but they are broader than the average. That's because the midwest is flyover country to most people.
  17. Hopefully the Rox can get off to a nice start this season as well!
  18. The Avs ended up winning in OT so SJ gets 1 point. How do the Hawks control their destiny? We are 2 points behind them but with a game in hand. I assume that we hold the tiebreaker, but I'm not sure what the tiebreaker is. Is it H2H?
  19. You gotta think the Eagles either think that McNabb is gonna be done soon, Kolb is the real deal, or both to trade their franchise QB in the division.
  20. P.S. Hey look its a should have been rematch of Game 1 of the 2008 NLDS.
