pretty sure its just distance traveled. Wrigley has the deepest dimensions down the line in baseball so 354 ft hit is not gonna cut it here. But obviously without the wind its long gone in every park. -

This team is the most hilarious combination of inept and unlucky. It never changes, just keeps going every single game. There's not even a "wow everything goes our way for 1 game" moment in there.

100%. If the Cubs offense could simply score 3 runs that's a "damn ok time to buckle down" moment. Instead its a "here we go again another loss" moment.

4 runs or less in 11 of the last 12 games against teams that arent last in their league in team ERA. I know, I know, those count, whatever lol

And yet we keep losing and I keep reading that its not the bullpen's fault, its not the offense's fault, not the starter's fault. Defense and baserunning play a part but (probably) not to the degree the other 3 do. Are we just getting incredibly unlucky? This is a serious question.

I know its time for UMFan to shut the horsefeathers up, but just for comparison purposes, over the White Sox last 25 games, they've had a 3+ run lead in 7 different games, held for 24 total innings compared to the Cubs having a 3+ run lead in 1 game for 7 total innings. I'll chill about this now (for now), I'm just in complete awe about this.

There are multiple ways to be a bad baseball team. The Cubs have chosen the most aggravating way possible by being in virtually every single game they play. Either they're up by 1-2 runs and hanging on for dear life or they're down by 1-2 runs and a hit or two away from coming back. 90% of their games are like this, and 75% of those games end with the Cubs losing (estimates). I've tried to just distance myself from watching but literally every single game they suck me back in by being in a winnable situation. They are not a team that's gonna just lose 9-0. It's always 3-2 or 4-3 or 4-2. I'm really not as miserable as I sound but damn they are a very annoying and frustrating team to be a fan of right now.

Seriously though, how do you play 25 straight baseball games and only manage to have a 3+ run lead at any point of the game ONE TIME? Even terrible teams have an outburst every once in awhile. The Cubs go almost entire months without having any sort of comfortable lead at any point. edit: yes this is my new negative stat that I’m going to obsess over so feel free to ignore me lol. Here are the 4 I’m obsessing over now: 1. Losses after having a lead in the 8th inning later - believe we’re at 9 2. Times when the starter leaves the game tied or with the lead and the bullpen immediately blows it in the first inning they are in the game. - I lost track, I need to go back and check on where we’re at here 3 and 4 are very similar. 3. Lack of wins by more than 2 runs - 3 such wins in their last 43 games 4. Lack of having a lead of more than 2 runs at any point in the game. - as mentioned has happened 1 time in the last 25 games. today was so close to hitting all 4 of these, however the cubs blew their lead in the 7th, not the 8th. Disappointing

The funniest thing is that the Cubs offense started showing signs of life 1-2 weeks ago and the starting pitching immediately had a very rough stretch. Now the starting pitching is locking it down again and the offense has gone back to being putrid. Team can’t get out of its own way lmao

After a mildly encouraging 3-1 stretch involving 2 wins over a historically bad team, the Cubs have gone 2-5 since then. Now 1-8 in their last 9 series. Broken team

Yeah that’s just never gonna happen with a Jed Hoyer team. He’s made it clear that he doesn’t operate with urgency and/or make moves that are a bad value in his mind. I know you already know this, I suppose I’m just stating the obvious. Plus I mean like come on the Cubs are not 1 bullpen arm away from being fixed. It’s sadly not even their biggest issue on the team arguably.

I've done this thing lately where I consciously don't watch or follow the Cubs game. But I'll always end up checking the score around the 7th inning, see that they have a small lead and get sucked into watching only to spend the next hour annoyed. Not going to make that mistake tonight now that they've fully blown it.

Here is my annoying negative stat of the day: Here is every instance of the Cubs having a lead of more than 2 runs over the last Cubs 25 games in a 9 inning game: 1. June 9th at Cincinnati - Held a 3+ run lead from the 1st inning to the 7th inning That's the whole list. If you want to include extra innings in there the list expands to 2 games with the Cubs May 28th game at Milwaukee where they held that lead in the 10th inning.
