  1. My greatest fear is that the Bears decide that if they can't trade him maybe they can try to sign him to a very cheap extension and trade the number 1 pick.
  2. This might be an extremely dumb question but couldn't they fill in some of Burnham Harbor to give them more space to work with? Of course the people who keep their boats in that marina might have a thing or two to say about that. I really hope there is public transit built into the plan too because moving the stadium south of Soldier Field makes it an even longer walk from downtown Edit: Also thinking about it, a lot of Soldier Fields' footprint is wasted because of the columns. They don't really serve any purpose to the existing stadium. So building a stadium with a similar footprint might actually give them more usable space.
  3. What about my mental state? Does that not matter to you? 😅 Actually, this outcome might finally get me to delete twitter and take my life back
  4. Ahh sorry it looks like it got deleted, I got duped. I'll try to be more careful lol
  5. This one hurts, I believe the Bears were heavily linked to Hunter. Maybe premature to say this but seems like we might be done playing at the top of the market after Swift?
  6. I don't care what the Bears get for him (obviously would like the best possible deal though), you can't have Caleb and Fields both on the roster next year. Fields' value will likely never again be this high, but in reality the biggest issue is the locker room and the massive headaches I will have when the Caleb/Fields discussions are had on twitter and sports radio for an entire season. I'd be willing to go as far as cut him if no one makes an offer of any sort, but I don't think it will get to that.
  7. Deadspin was sold and all existing staff let go. They are rebooting it again. Good Zombie Deadspin was terrible.
  8. Speaking of edge rushers Jonathan Greenard is going to the Vikings. Interested to see the contract as he seemed to benefit from a great contract year but was kind of meh before that
  9. Yeah it would be interesting to see how popular Chicago is as a large events destination for those types of events. They will surely get at least 1 of most of those but whether they will fall into the "circuit" of stadiums that frequently host these things will remain to be seen. If the Bears are really putting up $2B (I know some of that will go towards the land around the stadium too), its definitely going to be one of the nicer stadiums in the league
  10. I actually like that a lot better than Barkley or Jacobs. Lot less tread on the tires, can be used more out of the passing game, doesn't have to be a 3 down back so giving carries to Roshon too. That said, I still feel weird with a RB being our primary FA target.
  11. No they lost landmark status after whoever decides on those things saw what the stadium was turned into post-rennovation. Soldier Field will be a parking lot most likely if they build this stadium.
  12. Super Bowl, Final Four, Wrestlemania, B1G Championship, CFP Championship, other major events that require a mega stadium. Not arguing whether those infrequent events make it worth putting public money towards a stadium but I’m sure that plays into it
  13. Then an awesome pass for an assist. Looking great tonight.
  14. Not the same as getting asked about it in Australia but I've been asked that question so many times my answer is almost rehearsed at this point. Basically: "If the Bears didnt have number 1 pick I'd be fine with continuing with Fields/Fields seems like a good guy/We'd be stupid to not draft Caleb"
  15. I’m very confused about why there is a Twitter discourse right now about whether PCA is a bust. I saw someone compare him to Almora last night, completely ignoring that PCA is a significantly better fielder than Almora and Almoras last 2 minor league seasons he had an OPS below .730 while PCA has consistently had a high .800s OPS. i always saw him as an elite fielder and slightly above average bat and I still believe that.
  16. Pretty sure they can still play in Spring games? I swear in the past players that got sent down would still be called up to play in games. Anyways, surprised but not shocked about PCA, a little surprised about Vazquez given how good he's been and the fact that he's on the 40 man. Didn't necessarily think he'd make the OD roster, though thought it was possible and would at least stay until final cuts. Not surprised about Caissie though. Not on 40 man, never played above AA. He was probably going to start the season in Iowa no matter how well he played.
  17. Bulls come back from down 22 in the 3rd quarter to beat a Western Conference playoff team on the road. Gotta give the Bulls some credit. Everyone knows that the season is ultimately not going to result in any sort of success but they are resilient as hell and don’t give up.
  18. Also just a reminder for anyone thinking about him making the roster, Bote is no longer on the 40 man so its extremely unlikely he'll be on the OD roster no matter how well he hits.
  19. Thats fine, but I'm still going to hold their feet to the fire even if its pointless.
  20. I’m sorry but it’s absolutely inexcusable that Marquee does not broadcast every single Spring Training game. The only exception id allow is split squad games, I would be ok with them only showing 1 of them. And I largely don’t even watch Spring Training games. I’ve seen maybe 2 innings so far but seriously what the horsefeathers are we paying premium cable prices for? They can’t even be bothered to broadcast many of the games at the ballpark and/or with their own camera feed. It’s ridiculous. Right now instead of the Cubs dedicated TV network broadcasting an actual (spring training) Cubs game, they are showing a replay of a Major League Rugby game I’d be less mad if I thought an appropriate amount of the revenue for Marquee was being spent on the club but we’re not even seeing much of a boost if any and we’re in year 5. I’d rather just go back to games being on WGN and NBC Sports Chicago as so far Marquee has been a gigantic dud.
  21. I thought to myself "Bote's contract can't be that bad" and then I looked it up, yikes $5.5 million for him this year. At least its the last year of the contract. Bote has to be one of the richest guys to ever spend 75+% of his career in the minors.
  22. This is a complete aside since its not the case here and you should take this as a compliment but every time I see I have an alert that you quoted one of my posts I consciously think in my head "ok what did I say that was stupid this time?" 😅
  23. Given how little spring results mean to me I doubt they mean more to other GMs but maybe worth seeing if any team not expecting to contend might want to trade for Bote. But then again the return would probably be so minimal it would be better to have Bote in Iowa in a “break glass in case of emergency” type of scenario
