I mean honestly is our lineup that bad if we added Juan Soto to the middle of it? Of course a lot of lineups are drastically improved if you add a 10 WAR beast in the middle of it, but I really does seem like we have a lot of decent, solid even, complimentary hitters but clearly no big bat who, like you mentioned, forces other teams to gameplan around. Would seemingly make everyone in the lineup that much better just from his mere presence in there. It’s too bad hitters like that are never available. Well, except for the 2 times in the last 3 seasons he was available and the fact that he’s an impending FA who is dead set on testing the market this offseason.

Sorry I’m at the game and sitting down the 1B line, kind of hard to judge some of those pitches but I’ve seen this happen all night and for certain hitters *coughSeiyacough* all year and was starting to annoy me.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but this team is too patient sometimes. 3-1 count down 2 runs in the 6th, Busch takes strike 2 and strike 3 looking. I get the desire to get on base to start the inning but feel like there are quite a few situations where the Cubs should be looking to drive the ball but instead are taking good pitches

What the horsefeathers is PCA doing out there? Cockily tries to throw out a runner at the plate from deepish CF and then loses a ball in the…lights I guess. Luckily they made a great throw to prevent a run from scoring but what the hell. Never seen so many botched plays like that as the 2024 Cubs

My kids want me to take them to the game tonight. Seeing the ERAs of tonight's starters, perhaps I should at bleacher seats.

Just some random factoids/notes: -If the White Sox went .500 the rest of the season (24-24), they'd finish 51-111. -If they play .400 baseball (19-29) the rest of the season (~65-97 caliber team), they'd finish 46-116. -To avoid tying the modern (post-1901) record for most losses in a season (120) they'll need to go at least 16-32. -If they play their season winning percentage (.238) the rest of the season they'll go 11-37 and finish 38-124 -The 2003 Tigers are the closest we've come to someone tying the 62 Mets for 120 losses. Through 114 games they were 30-84, so 3 games better than the White Sox are now. But, they ended up going through a really rough stretch going 1-15 from August 8th - August 23rd, and then had another rough stretch going 1-16 from Sept 5th - Sept 22nd. That left them at 38-118, just 2 losses from the record with 6 games to go. Miraculously, the Tigers went 5-1 to finish off the season beating an 83-79 Royals team and the AL Central champion Twins to avoid making history. Always thought that was so awesome of them to find a way to win those games. 3 years later they were in the World Series.

Means we're underperforming our pythag record by 4 games this year after underperforming it by 7 last year. Wonder if all those blown 8th and 9th inning leads have anything to do with it 🤔

He's got a long enough track record of being a good hitter, I'm sure he'll break out of it. Heck just look at Dansby Swanson, struggled mightily to end last season and the start of this season an- ....oh wait, horsefeathers

The thing is, he was already in a huge extended slump before he was traded. Guessing the pressure of trying to get off to a good start with a new team isn't exactly helping him break out of it.

Got it. I thought you were talking about rookies generally coming up and hitting right away with just minor adjustments needed. I thought it was kind of crazy that people were giving up on PCAs hitting already when the sample size is still pretty small regardless of the gap between AAA and the Majors

New normal? I’d I had to guess most young hitters have an extended period of adjustment when they first come up. Maybe most aren’t quite as long or as bad but I don’t think PCA’s curve is all that unusual.

Don't know if anyone realized this yet but I believe that if the White Sox keep losing their chance to break the record for most consecutive losses in a single season will be against the Cubs this weekend.

He’s a huge pull hitter. Pull hitters largely tend to outperform their xwOBA for reasons I outlined a few days ago but don’t feel like finding at 1:30 in the morning when I’m half awake lol Look I know we all like to look at Jed as a blundering idiot but the man knows significantly more about baseball than every single one of us and has access to data that none of us have. Doesn’t mean he’s always going to be right (obviously) but I highly doubt he made the trade without considering the ramifications of how his hitting profile is affected by playing half his games at a Wrigley Field.

For the record, winning any the Arizona losses would have put them in the playoffs (obviously if everything else played out as it did). Like that deflection off Keegan’s arm that Dansby inexplicably allowed to drop before throwing to first…if he decides to try to catch it in the air, the Cubs are in the playoffs.

It's funny to think about the fact that in an alternate universe where like 15 inexplicable things don't happen the Cubs are right in the playoff picture right now. This team isn't great, its maybe not even good, but its good enough to make the playoffs. It just constantly shoots itself in the foot at the worst possible moment...at least considerably more than other MLB teams do. Though maybe that's part of why they're not good, they are lacking some awareness attribute that allows them to succeed in those moments.

OH man its been awhile since I've tracked it, need to go back and count the number of 8th inning or later leads blown in a loss. Gotta be extending some major league record at this point.
