  1. I just pulled up March 1st today, so 6 days old. The point was that Popovich is a serious contender as well.
  2. Damn you Thibs http://i56.tinypic.com/153br7r.jpg He has to have Coach of the Year pretty much locked, right? I've heard Collins and Hollins bandied about as well, but I think Thibs is a runaway. Popovich is leading ESPN's "awards watch"
  3. OK, that's all I was asking. I remember 2 years ago everyone said Michigan had to win 1 BTT game to get in, and we beat hapless Iowa in the 1st round lost to Illinois in the 2nd round and barely got in. I do agree TT that Michigan lacks that quality win (stupid bank shot 3 point buzzer beater by Wisconsin), but they also lack many bad losses. Their only loss outside the Top-100 RPI was Indiana, which obviously was a bad loss, especially because they lost by 19. Looking at fellow bubble teams: VT has 3 sub-100 losses, USC has 6, MSU also 1, Colorado 3, Missouri State 2. If only "almost wins" against top 50 teams counted. Michigan would have Syracuse (by 3), Kansas (7), Ohio State (4), Wisconsin (2), and Illinois (2). :)
  4. With regards to the Big Ten Tournament, is getting the 4th seed a disadvantage for Michigan? There were 4 teams tied at 9-9 this year. Of them, Michigan got the highest seed, 4th, and will play the 5th seed, Illinois. Everyone says that if Michigan wins, they are in, if they lose its maybe 50/50. So, is being the 4th seed and having to play another (talented) bubble team, Illinois, a disadvantage? Michigan State, on the other hand, is also said to need a win and in, and they get a near freebie against Iowa. Penn State probably needs at least 2 wins, and they get a booster against hapless Indiana. I am wondering if its possible Michigan State and Penn State both won their 1st round games against bad teams, and then lost in the second round and got into the tourney, while Michigan lost their 2nd round game and was out, when going into the BTT, Michigan was probably ahead of both teams in the pecking order. The one thing that makes me feel better about this scenario is that Michigan went 4-0 against MSU and PSU this year, something I'm sure the selection committee takes into account. But the question is valid, just in general with the Big Ten Tournament. I don't really think, as a Michigan fan, that they can actually win the BTT, so I don't really care if they get a bye or not. I just want to make sure they get into the dance.
  5. Well there was only one game of note tonight, and that game had the worst possible result. The Stars (coming into the day with 77 points) and Kings (coming into the day with 76 points) played and Dallas won in OT, so now Dallas and Calgary are 1 point behind the Hawks with 79 points, and the 4th-8th seeds are seperated by just 3 points. Hawks are 5 points clear of the playoffs.
  6. Carlos Silva is just a winner. Doesn't matter how many runs he gives up, he does just enough to win the game.
  7. I liked it for NU too. I think they'd be better off closing down the area where the triangle building is supposed to go, but I realize that's impossible with the players and staff parking lot being there, as well as TV trucks, etc. I would just think it would seem more festive in the front of the park rather than the back. Cool idea though, I've always liked how the Red Sox set up Yawkey Way whenever I've been to Fenway.
  8. But my kettle is white
  9. Oh wow, this is a great great Twitter account. I present: Erik as a Heat fan:
  10. Just read that Keith might have a fractured finger on his right hand. That's probably not good. There's no word on how much time he could miss, if at all.
  11. "Mine as well" keep this going as it seemed to work decently well last week. Just 24 of these fake games left to go until the real stuff starts. Can't say I'm following the games all that closely, but its nice to see the Cubs getting at least a couple of W's. Week Schedule (All games at 2:05 PM CST unless noted): MON 3/7 - vs. Angels, MLB.com Radio TUE 3/8 - @ Rockies, MLB.com Radio (Game starts at 2:10 PM) WED 3/9 - vs. Royals, MLB.com Radio THU 3/10 - vs. Indians, MLB.com Radio FRI 3/11 - @ White Sox, MLB Network TV, MLB.com Radio SAT 3/12 - (ss) vs. Reds, WGN 720 Radio SAT 3/12 - (ss) vs. Reds, WGN TV (Game played in Las Vegas, NV and starts at 3:05 PM) SUN 3/13 - (ss) vs. Dodgers, WGN TV (Game played in Las Vegas, NV and starts at 3:05 PM) SUN 3/13 - (ss) @ Diamondbacks, MLB.com Radio (Game starts at 3:10 PM)
  12. One more note...despite the offense having its struggles early in the season, the Hawks are 2nd in the NHL (not just the West) in goals scored and only 1 behind Detroit for 1st. Although not nearly as dominant, they are 11th in the NHL in goals allowed, so above average at least.
  13. Decent night for the Hawks, as the 3 teams tied for 9th place all with 75 points lost tonight. The Hawks are now even in games played with all 3 teams and up 5 points on them. 5 point cushion is pretty good considering 2 weeks ago we are around 4 points out of a playoffs. 5 points is not enough to completely relax, but its a decent cushion at this point. It probably doesn't matter because the Hawks don't seem to want to lose the rest of the year. :) Calgary beat one of those teams, Nashville tonight, so they pull back to 1 point behind the Hawks for the 4th seed, although the Hawks have 2 games in hand over them. In terms of playoff matchups if we got the 4 seed, I would love to play the Flames in the first round. I feel like we still have a mental edge over them after the events of the last 2 seasons.
  14. Heh, thanks to realgm for this http://nsa26.casimages.com/img/2011/02/28/110228064224789122.gif http://nsa26.casimages.com/img/2011/02/28/110228064144409844.gif http://nsa25.casimages.com/img/2011/03/04/110304045340191480.gif http://nsa26.casimages.com/img/2011/03/04/110304062927733416.gif http://nsa25.casimages.com/img/2011/02/28/110228064222688129.gif http://nsa26.casimages.com/img/2011/02/28/110228064218528528.gif
  15. come at me bro Hahah, I just think it's funny that general fan insecurity can take over Bulls fans despite the fact that their team is [expletive] excellent. I expect it from mediocre teams like the Bucks or something, where there fans complain that the refs are screwing them to mask the fact that the team blows, but i'd think bulls fans would be above that. You do realize that 90% of NBA fans believe their fans are getting screwed by the officials every single game right? It's been even worse since the Donaghy crap happened.
  16. Yeah, I don't know about that. Dying at 15 is never the ideal way to die.
  17. That would be just the awesomest thing that has ever occured. I think we play Detroit 3 more times this year too, right?
  18. My expectations are starting to switch from "just make the damn playoffs" to "winning a playoff series" The awesome thing about the 7 game winning streak is that only 2 of the wins were not regulation wins. The other 5 wins were all by 2 goals or more. The Hawks have outscored their opponents 28-16 during the winning streak.
  19. They are starting to resemble last years team. Lately i've noticed the Hawks dominating the puck control, and they been outshooting their opponents pretty consistently by a decent margin. They are also starting to put up 4-5 goals on a regular basis. Really really good performances lately. LOL Kaner! 5-1
  20. I really hope we can hold on because the guys right at our heels seem to be on their way to winning tonight. Calgary is up 4-2 towards the end of the second, so they would remain 1 point behind us if we can win. dallas and anahem are right now 9th and 10th in the conference, so we're not going to really get much room to breath as far as just making the playoffs goes.
  21. [expletive] awesome. 4-1 now!
  22. When ryan johnson is scoring goals for you, you know things are going well for you. 3-1 Hawks. 17 minutes to hold on for the 7th win in a row. Please don't let down.
  23. You don't see why a 15-14 road team beating a 26-9 home team would be an upset? In the grand scheme of the NBA it would be a blip on the radar, but I think the term stealing one applies here. Unless "stealing one" is universally defined somewhere, we can agree to disagree. I disagree to agree.
