Figures, we got some amazing weather in Chicago while the Cubs were out of town, and now the Cubs are back and its back in the 50s and raining again -
Brewer or Ben Brown are options. I know it sounds crazy to send Brown down and wouldnt be my choice but perhaps they want to keep him stretched out and roughly on schedule with Hendricks to replace him if he doesnt show signs of improvement.

I agree. It’s so unbelievably stupid to me. And it totally plays right into Reinsdorf’s hands. They can be the 10th best team in the worse conference and still have the fans feeling like they accomplished something because they played in a play-in game. in fact when Reinsdorf dies they should rename it the Jerry Reinsdorf Memorial Tournament because this horsefeathers was made with owners like him in mind -

Yeah. 7 plays 8, winner gets the 7 seed. The loser then plays the winner of 9/10, with the winner getting the 8 seed. So basically the 7 and 8 regular season seeds have 2 chances to win 1 game, with at least the second game guaranteed to be at home. The 9 and 10 regular season seeds have to win 2 straight games, with the last one guaranteed to be on the road. -
I’m confused as to why Wesneski was even down to begin with. Didn’t make the team out of spring training but also wasn’t the first choice when Steele went down and wasn’t the first choice when Merryweather went down. Not that Wesneski isn’t without his issues and I’m sure there are matchup considerations but he seems like a guy who should be on the MLB roster at this point.

Thought that was obvious and has been obvious for 2 years. I didn’t even think about the fact that they are playing this game until like 2pm today because I’m so far from caring about the pointlessness of this franchise. -

dammit I was 1 inning away from making a pointless and unwelcomed "Pfaadt has a 0.23 career ERA against the Cubs and a 16.73 career ERA against everyone else" post and then the Cubs had to go out and score 2 runs. I suppose I still could since one of the runs was unearned, but its twice as annoying to post after the Cubs actually scored runs and took the lead.

Ahh yeah thats right, that was the one game we won against them last year in 7 tries. I dont know why I recall him owning us twice. Probably was just annoyed that we lost the first 3 games of that series at Wrigley, he had a funny name and an ERA over 6 and wasn't satisfied that we "only" got 4 runs off of him in 6 innings. Plus I kept seeing this dude pitching in the playoffs which annoyed me. He was a consensus top 100 prospect going into last year though so clearly he's not just some random dude that owned us.

I don't even hate the strategy that Jed uses for the pen. It's worked for us more years than not. I just think he didn't add enough options in the offseason. Almonte is fine, they like his stuff and think they can get him going. And having seen him for a few weeks I can see what they love about him, he just needs to throw strikes. Neris never made sense to me as the one pricey addition given his peripherals. Outside of that we're pretty much left with the same options as last year. But maybe the biggest issue with regards to the pen is the amount they are being overburdened by the starters' inability to go deep into games. The pen shouldn't be this gassed so early in the season. Cubs starters have failed to go 5 innings in 9 of the 17 games, only 3 starts have lasted 6 innings, none of them more than 6 innings. That type of burden is going to cause even the best pens to struggle.

On the 40 man you have Michael Arias, Jose Cuas (*shudder*) and Wesneski Almost certainly would be Wesneski since he's stretched out as a starter, has MLB experience and today is his normal turn in the rotation. Given that Wicks has had trouble going more than 4-5 innings, we need someone who can come up and give multiple innings. DBacks have some dangerous lefties though which was his major struggle last year.

What arms are fresh in Iowa? Have a feeling Palencia is going down tomorrow and someone is on their way to Arizona.

Yes Hader sucks so far this year. No we didn’t need to spend a ton of money on bullpen arms, yes we have promising arms in Iowa that can give us a boost, yes we historically improve on the pen as the season goes along. But we needed to do more in the offseason than Neris and Almonte after a historic September playoff collapse due largely to the pen. these games will happen in a season, no pen is going to hold every lead, but there’s already 4 games this year I can think of that the pen had a major negative impact on. That rate can’t continue

Ok that’s it for me. If they lose, they are back to pissing me off for blowing the 8-0 lead in San Diego. If they win great. horsefeathers the diamondbacks for making us play like 6 super tense games over our last 35 or so games dating back to last September.
