Neris threw 33 pitches yesterday. I really hope they use that as an excuse to use someone like Tyson Miller in the 9th, assuming they still have the lead. -

Very happy that Amaya has really turned it around this year both as a hitter and behind the plate. But it does make it a little more difficult to decide what to do with catcher this offseason. It’s clear we need to upgrade there but do we need a clear starting catcher or a 1a to Amaya’s 1b? FWIW, his batting line since July 7th is below. Only 72 PA so obviously he needs to show it for longer but he really does seem to be having better ABs, driving the ball more and overall just looking more confident out there .313 .362 .516 .878

See, Velus still in the game in the final minutes. Feels like he’s fighting for a roster spot. He just botched a special teams play where the Bears backup punter kicked it perfectly and looked to be downed at the 1, but Velus came flying in to touch it and in doing so stepped on the goal line for a touchback

This has been a really weird weather day with random rain pockets popping up out of nowhere. Had a 45 min drive today where it was sunny, then pouring, then sunny again and my car dried off, then pouring again, etc. the forecast never really called for rain and the radar just showed tiny pockets of light rain. anyways, are we gonna lose a Steele start because of this?

I agree that long term this is pretty meaningless and doesn’t tell us a ton but at the same time the word pregame was the starters were playing 1-2 series. Looks like Caleb is about to come out for his 5th drive so seems like they still want to see more from him today

Apparently that's only the 3rd balk by Neris this year. How can that be possible? I feel like he's done it 5+ times this year. I guess maybe the 2 times he balked before this were so glaring and damaging given his role that it seems like its happened more than it has.

Really don't care about pitcher wins in general but certainly for a Cubs legend and WS hero like Hendricks it would be really cool to see him hit a nice round 3 digit number of wins. Don't know how many more chances he'll get so it sucks that he couldn't get #97 today.

He really made a case to contenders today that they should pick up his contract /s But in all seriousness, Neris has massive flaws and shouldnt be the closer, but I'll run out the TT argument that he's actually been really solid lately. 1.17 ERA in his last 16 games before today with a solid FIP and .573 OPS against. I'd still be completely fine with them putting him on waivers and seeing what happens, but assuming that doesn't happen, he should still have a role on this team. Just maybe not closer. Especially when the dude cant stop balking runners home.
