Well if he does regress tonight I will say that on May 29th, Shota has the lowest ERA in baseball for any pitcher with 50+ IP this year (0.84) and he’s leading by 0.90 runs over the 2nd best pitcher, Seth Lugo (1.74) -
That does make me wonder a little bit about WAR. If you have a team of 5 win players, but 80% of their value is from defense, are you better off than a team of 4.5 win players with lets say 70% of their value from hitting? Like right now we're seeing a Cubs team excel at run prevention (largely due to starting pitching but still), but we're still in a 3-9 stretch because we can't score any runs. We'd likely see something similar with my first example...your defense can't prevent less than 0 runs, but a good offense can score lots of runs. Basically is all WAR created equal?

Holy horsefeathers, not sure if this was discussed yet but Cubs starting pitching has not allowed a run to the Brewers yet in the 5 games that they’ve played. And crazier yet - it has been done by 5 different starting pitchers. And even crazier, none of those starters has been Shota! That’s unreal! Wesneski - 6.1 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 0 R Taillon - 6 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 0 R Assad - 6 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 0 R Steele - 7 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 0 R Brown - 7 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 0 R Total - 32.1 IP, 12 H, 10 BB, 0 R Honestly I’ve seen my share of crazy stats and it’s not the craziest but it’s up there. Just incredible work by the Cubs starters.

Always love when a game that was 1-0 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning ends up 6-3 (with the Cubs winning of course). Last year when Happ had that double play assist at home to beat the Brewers during 4th of July, the Cubs were coming off a stretch of 7 losses in their previous 8 games. While they didn't immediately get hot, it did stablize them into more of a .500ish team for another 2 weeks before really hitting the gas and playing themselves into the playoff race. Hopefully tonight's win can give them a similar boost.

Our starting pitchers gave up 14 scoreless innings the last 2 days. All the other 24 players on the roster had to do is score more runs in 18 innings than the bullpen allowed in 4 innings and they failed twice.

I turned it off. I'll still follow it but I'm not doing extra innings right now.

This is not the worst Cubs team I've had the pleasure of following but its among the most detestable right now.

Kind of the Cubs luck lately. He's 2-4 with the 2 outs being the times he had the bases loaded.

Are they really going to blow this with 2 outs in the 9th? Pitch around Yelich if you have to.

That sequence shows 2 of the Cubs biggest flaws: 1) Our catchers hit like pitchers 2) The Cubs refusal to use Vazquez means that the Cubs have a 4 man bench. 1 bench player was already used, so you're left with Wisdom, Madrigal and Gomes left. If you PH Wisdom or Madrigal (neither are really attractive options to bring a run home from 3rd with 2 outs), you're also burning Gomes, meaning that if the luckiest pitcher in baseball this year fails to hold a 1 run lead, you're left with just 1 bench player for extra innings (2 if you count Vazquez and I'm not sure Counsell does)

I mean it could have mattered if literally any other player on the team did anything offensively in that game. Not his fault that all his teammates failed.

And now it appears that they are trying to see if Dansby will get himself out, otherwise they'll take their chances with the pitcher (aka Amaya - who I realize has 2 hits today but come on)

Wow you know you're terrible when Michael horsefeathers Busch and his 40% K rate are being intentionally walked to get to you. Insane.

Cubs essentially have a leadoff double and are likely not going to score it. Out 1 was ineptitude, out 2 was wildly unlucky. Lets see what out 3 holds for us
