  1. Wow Bickell that was a fantastic goal. You aren't talented enough to do that! 1-0 Hawks
  2. its so weird actually seeing you talk about the celtics
  3. Also, 3 of our 4 projected primetime games are on the road
  4. That game at GB is on xmas night. Tough first 3 games. We play the entire AFC West in 4 consecutive weeks? Wow
  5. It's terrible in the sense that it handcuffed the rest of the team and we had to rely on fringe NHL talent on the third and fourth line. While it may not be a terrible contract on the open market, it's absolutely a terrible contract with this team. You have a Norris Trophy caliber defenseman as your #1 defender and he's paid like one (even though he didnt play like one this year), you have a fantastic (IMO) compliment to him as your #2 guy, who is now being paid like one. You have a young #3 defender who played really well last year making something like 3.75m. That's fine too. But then your 4th defender is making more than the other 3, and is skating into the defensive zone like a forward and gives you negative in terms of physical play, doesn't get in front of shots very often, and the next time a hit by him knocks the glass loose will be the first time. If he was making $3m a year, he'd be a valuable piece for what he is. At 7 million, he pretty much better cover his role and Kris Versteeg's. In what world is Hammer a better defenseman than Campbell? 51 had the highest +/- on the team. I dont think he is. Hammer had a bad year this year. I'm saying that you have those 3 defensemen, its crazy to have part of your 2nd defensive pairing making more than the other 3 guys. I misphrased that.
  6. i believe I read that NFL schedules are being released at 6pm today. Assuming there is a season, here are some tidbits released: -Jets/Cowboys in NY on SNF in week 1 (Jets schedule that is known W1: vs. DAL, W2: vs. JAX, W3: @ OAK, W4: @ BAL, W5: @ NE, W8: Bye, W17: @ MIA) -Redskins/Giants in DC on 9/11 -Bears/Buccaneers in London on October 23rd in London -Bears @ Lions on MNF on Oct 10 (wow)
  7. Jesse Rodgers sums up the issues surrounding the Hawks in this series nicely:
  8. Kelly Dwyer's theory is that with it being the playoffs, the other teams are finally matching the Bulls intensity that they've been bringing all season. That was supposedly the same argument against the Skiles Bulls. It's so weird and rather annoying to be angry at the play of a team that has won 11 games in a row and 16 of 17.
  9. ok ombudsman ryan, we've had enough, Bulls fans need to be senseless homers today. Take your mocking and logic to the NBA playoffs thread.
  10. Not a horrible comparison, but at least that Bulls team got themselves to .500 that season. I would think the Hawks-Celtics series would be a good comparison, except the Celtics blew out the 37 win Hawks badly every game that took place in Boston. Game 1: In Boston, 23 point win Game 2: In Boston, 19 point win Game 3: In Atlanta, 9 point loss Game 4: In Atlanta, 5 point loss Game 5: In Boston, 25 point win Game 6: In Atlanta, 3 point loss Game 7: In Boston, 34 point win What a weird series. I guess SSR should understand being a heavily favored team that struggles against a 37 win team at the very least.
  11. It's not just power-hitting outfielders. Between Girardi debuting during the tail end of 1989 and Soto playing a game in 2005, who was the best position player to come up through the Cubs' system to actually play for the Cubs? Doug Glanville? Corey Patterson? Ryan Theriot? Gotta be Kevin Orie!
  12. imagine the endless mocking we'd get if we traded for him. Prior, Wood, then Peavy.
  13. Both Rays fans are in love with him. Quite the fan favorite.
  14. Actually, I think he did play about 1 minute. He made a very brief appearance in Game 1 and another one tonight. Really? Must have been very brief as I dont remember seeing him in there at all. Indiana hasn't really attacked the paint that much this series, so I don't think Asik is a good matchup in this particular series. If we win this series and go on to face Orlando, you can bet we will see a lot more Omer.
  15. I've always found it funny that in a normal win, teams come out and calmly shake each others hands like its no big deal. But in a walkoff win, they celebrate like they just clinched a playoff spot every single time. There's nothing wrong with it of course, but I would expect something in the middle.
  16. Those are just the more glaring examples. I heard a funny comparison to Campbell's performance this playoff series. They described him as Pavel Bure masking as a defender. I think Campbell was a better fit for last year's team that he was for this year's team. Huet we thankfully ridded ourselves of, but it would have been nice if we could have had a player of value on the team with his cap space that could have fetched a decent cheaper option to help us this year instead of simply jettissoning his contract to Finland or wherever he went. Maybe that means we don't match Hammer's offer sheet, who knows. The contract essentially gave us less options this offseason. The point was that Tallon's moves that caused us to strip bare the depth of a championship team, are part of the reason we weren't that good this year, but at the same time, that blame, to me, is excused because any scenario where you win a Cup is good enough in my book. Yeah but relative to CT? Oh no doubt. He singlehandedly derailed the Blackhawks season and doesnt even realize it.
  17. At least their trolling is amusing. That's a million times better than the unintentional trolling by some in the cubs game threads. Agree completely. I don't mind it at all. Keeps us Bulls fans levelheaded with someone to call us out on our homerism.
  18. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=7757 Just an article about the London game. It says that if the lockout isn't resolved by August 1st the game will be played in Tampa assuming the lockout is over by that point. It also says the schedules will be released tomorrow at 6pm CST, so I guess the NFL is going ahead with business as usual.
  19. I love how imb and ssr take turns trolling this thread. It's made for some fairly entertaining reading.
  20. i remember reading in baseball prospectus that brett jackson might become the first homegrown outfielder to put up a .270 equivalent average (now i think they're calling it true average) and 15 home runs since - billy williams! that's not exactly a high bar to clear; 15 home runs is mediocre for an outfielder and .270 is just a shade above average. to have not developed an outfielder like that in 35 or 40 years is just appalling. Agreed. Most of their rather shallow list of successful position players that have been brought up have been infielders (Grace, Palmeiro, Dunston, Soto).
  21. besides "catches hit 8th, dude"? No, not really.
  22. It's mind-boggling how a top five defenseman the last few years became an average joe overnight. Kane had a slow start but had a great second half of the season. Hossa had a pretty bad stretch midway through the year but him and Sharp were really the only good forwards at the start of the year. He really picked it up around the President's Day game against the Blues too. I think it's very obvious that Toews ran out of gas at the end of the season as well. Just rest up in the offseason. I don't think we should be pressed against the cap this summer, so hopefully Bowman rids the trash and gets some decent 3rd and 4th liners in here. I thought I remember reading that we would have some difficulties with the cap this year. I can't remember specifics though. It's obviously awesome that the performance and award bonuses come off the cap though. We already resigned Seabs so that was going to be our most pressing issue in the offseason. Someone smarter than I will have to do a breakdown after this miserable season concludes itself. I guess I could go to capgeek, but I 'd rather someone do all the work for me.
  23. Yay, I win! That said, after someone pointed out how Psycho beat us at the rim in the previous game, I am thinking we should stick with what we did in game 1, and if he starts to hit those shots again, then get up in his face and make him beat us at the rim. I bet not even the biggest UNC fan figured that one day relatively soon we would be obsessively discussing how to stop Tyler [expletive] Hansborough.
  24. No, not even close. The 1995-96 Bulls went 72-10, 14-1 in the playoffs, and then tanked a couple to win at home. MJ just wanted to win the title on Father's Day because he's such a swell guy I bet he got his dad some nice seats for that one. You heartless bastard.
