  1. STAN HACK BABY! It's so weird seeing a Cub in any top 10 World Series list.
  2. that's disapointing. Let's be honest, the talks were not almost over if they hadn't agreed on the BRI split. That's the biggest issue and has been the entire time.
  3. I saw this a couple of weeks ago when they were talking about proposed changes to the CBA. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, Booze. Were they really talking about multiyear amnesty back then? I know they were talking about a 1 time thing, but not something teams could do multiple times over the years.
  4. So this new labor deal is rumored to have a multi year amnesty that teams can use to knock a contract off their books. They still have to pay them but they erase their cap obligations. Doesn't this seem to only give more strength to the large market teams?
  5. The last 8 game 7's: 2002: Giants (1) @ Angels (4) 2001: Yankees (2) @ Diamondbacks (3) 1997: Indians (2) @ Marlins (3) 1991: Braves (0) @ Twins (1) 1987: Cardinals (2) @ Twins (4) 1986: Red Sox (5) @ Mets (8) 1985: Cardinals (0) @ Royals (11) 1982: Brewers (3) @ Cardinals (6)
  6. I remember saying this before game 7 of the 2003 NLCS lol. Home team has won the last 8 World Series game 7's. The last time the road team won was 1979 when the Pirates won in Baltimore. The time before that was the Reds in Boston in 1975 of course.
  7. I turned on a Dallas sports talk show while I was walking to get lunch to hear what they were saying, and I didn't hear a single word about the Rangers, it was all Cowboys talk. I wish I was kidding.
  8. Reading the comments from Rangers fans the day between games 6 and 7 remind me a lot of how I felt between 6 and 7 in 2003 (yeah i know it was only the NLCS). Some are completely depressed. Some are adament that they will win tonight, almost as if they are convincing themselves. Some prefer to just discuss the failure of the game, or Ron Washington's decisions. I had all those feelings and thoughts between 6 and 7 in 2003. It's just a really interesting day because you are crushed about the game the night before, and while in your heart you think the series is over, in your head you still have hope because you could win the series tonight and game 6 will be a footnote if they can only win tonight.
  9. Most importantly, they're joining next year. My guess is the Mizzou/SEC announcement comes before Deaton goes to India on Tuesday. Apparently it will be on Monday: http://deadspin.com/5854247/mizzou-will-join-the-sec-on-monday-according-to-secs-premature-accidental-announcement
  10. Eh. A Corona with a lime may not be my favorite, but it does me just fine from time to time. It's for beer drinkers who don't like beer. Saying its piss water is giving it a compliment. But if Theo likes it that's fine with me. That's nonsense. You can enjoy a good beer and enjoy a corona as well. Personally I wouldn't drink it in the freezing cold fall weather, it's more of a first signs of summer thing for me. But it's fine. I'd have to agree. I wouldn't consider myself a Corona drinker at all... and I've probably had it less than 10 times in my life...but there are times I've had it where it has hit the spot. Like in the early spring when I'm trying to pretend 59 degrees is actually 80 degrees. Or when it actually is 80 degrees for the first time or two. Yeah I never got the impression that Corona was any sort of less manly beer. It's not MGD Ultra 64 or something. Then I'd be worried. And if it was a Mike's Hard Lemonade, then I might have to rethink the whole Theo Epstein thing.
  11. Well not the best news after I looked it up. Since 1979, teams that go into game 6 up 3-2 and LOSE, are 1-8 in game 7's. Anyone triva buffs remember who got the only W? The good news is, in all World Series since the beginning, the game 6 loser is 17-18 in game 7. Here is a breakdown by year: 1979-2011: 1-8 1955-1978: 11-3 1901-1954: 5-7 If you include all MLB game 7's (including the LCS), the loser of game 6 is 22-27 in game 7's, and 6-17 since 1979. Breakdown of the LCS: Overall 5-9 ALCS 2-4 NLCS 3-5 Reds against the Red Sox in 1975 after the Fisk game. You are right abotu that being one of the times, but I said the losing game 6 team was 1-8 since 1979, so it has to be a team from 1979 or later. Here are the nine 7 game series during that time: -1979: Pirates over Orioles -1982: Cardinals over Brewers -1985: Royals over Cardinals -1986: Mets over Red Sox -1987: Twins over Cardinals -1991: Twins over Braves -1997: Marlins over Indians -2001: Diamondbacks over Yankees -2002: Angels over Giants

  13. On a side note, I wonder what the all time playoff record is in game 7 for teams that go into game 6 with a 3-2 series lead and lose
  14. If that Harrison kid doesn't start off well, I'm sure the Rangers will be psyched that they have CJ Wilson to give them 5-6 innings on 3 days rest instead of 2 days rest because of the rainout. Who knows how Carp's fragile little 36 year old arm is going to respond to pitching on 3 days rest 250 innings into his season.
  15. I'd say they were fairly successful. successful at being douchebags sure. they were built to win a title and anything less than winning the title is not considered a successful year. So thus far they are batting 0%. that's a silly, emotionally driven statement. it was basically those 3 guys, a little james jones, and a bunch of garbage and they got to the 6th game of the damn nba finals in their first season together. Ill stop after this because its off topic but so you are saying that LeBron and Wade are happy about their successful season last year? Or that they should be happy that 2 of the top 3-4 players in the NBA along with a top 25 player ni the NBA could not win the title. I don't care about how the supporting cast was. You put together those 3 talents and the expectation is to win a championship and they did not so it was not successful. OK Im done. Should have just used the real Dream Team like I tried to.

    Dempster

Of course if you take a pitchers 8 worst starts their ERA looks great. I chose to take solace in the fact that 7 of his 8 worst starts were his first 7 starts of the year and for the remaining 160 innings he pitched, he was pretty decent, or at least more in line with his numbers in 2009 and 2010. Perhaps its the beginning of the end for Demp or maybe it was just a bad start to a season hurt even more by Quade's managing. The other thing is that we're talking about ERA which we all know isn't always good at accurately showing how well a pitcher is throwing.
  17. UMFan83

    Dempster

The average ERA for starters in the AL this year was 4.23. So take Carl Pavano, who had a 4.30 ERA. Erase his July and erase his start of 4 IP 7 ER, which is his wost of the year and he has a 3.50 ERA, so right around where Dempster is.

    Dempster

Good so Dempster is an average pitcher. I am fine with that. Although, I did this exercise with AJ Burnett, just picked at random and got a 4.05 ERA.

Anyways, this is how I prefer my Dream Team to look: http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/4268/289821992usaolympicbask.jpg Obviously not a finished product, just a prototype. Or the one in OMC's sig.
  20. Come on are we comparing those unsuccessful douchebags with our Dream Team that will not fail?
  21. Heard a rumor that tonight's game may be postponed due to the Rangers not having enough clean uniforms after the Rangers pen collectively [expletive] theirselves last night.
  22. At least we now know who the World Series MVP is if the Cardinals win No not Freese, the Rangers bullpen.
  23. Whoever suggested going to gatewayredbirds.com after the Hamilton HR go to hell. Continual punishment for Cubs fans, as one of the most enjoyable WS maybe forever is the one where the Cardinals are going to win it. THEO DO SOMETHING
  24. Is cj Wilson available to pitch by chance?
  25. It will be a worthy memory if the Cardinals end up losing. If not, I will try to find a Men in Black memory erasing device
