  1. Sorry for going WSR here but I hope the management is prepared to make some tough decisions in the offseason. I know I'm overreacting to a bad stretch but like has been pointed out repeatedly, the Hawks do not appear to have improved much over last year and some of the things we chalked up to cup hangover and lack of depth has hung around after we supposedly are beyond those excuses. Duncan Keith's Norris year now appears to be more of a career year then a player who is peaking. I no longer think he should be the number one defenseman. Screw getting a playmaking 2 way Center, we should be looking to acquire the best blue liner available before anything else.
  2. Well I think the reasons for acquiring tough guys were good. We one of the softest teams in the NHL last year and it cost us. I think they believed by adding those guys it would become infectious and the team as a whole would have a more physical style of play. Instead the finesse guys didn't change one bit and basically rely on Mayers and co to put a body on the opponents and pick fights. We are still a really soft team and it's maybe one of the reasons we've allowed soapy goals this year. Don't get me wrong, the Hawks finesse players are beautiful to behold when it's working for them but against many teams they can't live off of fancy stick work and crisp passes to get the job done. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass but it sure seems to me like it's still a big issue. Not the biggest but up there.
  3. Make that 17 goals in 2 games. Should have waited until the end to post this.
  4. So the Hawks have given up 16 goals in 2 games in Edmonton this year. BTW, Edmonton is in the bottom 3rd in the league in goals scored.
  5. What happened to their defense? Keith Seabrook, Campbell, Hjalmarsson, Sopel and various scrubs became Keith Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Leddy, Montador, O'Donnell. The 3rd defensive pairing shouldn't be enough to go from allowing the least goals in the conference to close to the most within 2 seasons. Looks to me like Keith completely regressed and Hjalmarsson had a fluke season in 2010. I kind of wish the Sharks ended up getting him and we resigned Niemi.
  6. Really sad to hear. I guess Hendry made the right decision to trade Hamilton.
  7. Revised road trip hopes are now 3-4-2 after this loss (losing 5-3 in the 3rd) I don't know if its effort or lack of talent or both but either way, its not good at all.
  8. I decided to boycott the Hawks until they played better but both times I turned to the game to check the score, the Oilers scored within 30 seconds. Thanks for reminding me why I don't feel like watching you Hawks.
  9. Pointing out that the effort was really poor tonight is not embarrassing themselves. overreacting and taking this as some sort of statement game is pretty embarrassing. the bulls were the second-best team in the east last season and improved in experience and talent-level this season. in a shortened, compressed season, this team's two biggest priorities are: get to the playoffs healthy, beat the heat. unless we're seriously suggesting that losing to the [expletive] sixers before the all-star break is some sort of harbinger of playoff doom, which is pretty silly, then the unmeasured reactions to tonight's loss are a little embarrassing. unless you don't value patience, maturity, or perspective. then yeah, perfectly appropriate. Show me quotes where anyone in this thread called it a statement game. You can be disappointed in the effort and results of an individual game and still remain unchanged in your belief in the team. I think you are too quick to pull the 'everyone's being ridiculous' card.
  10. Bucks are having a pretty decent run lately. I think they are a playoff team at this point.
  11. Illinois a 6, wow. Don't get too excited...they still have Northwestern in their bracket.
  12. I was gonna say that it would take an incredible collapse to miss the tourney, but then I realized that they are 5-6 in the Big 10. Their schedule is fairly favorable the rest of the year. 5 home games vs. 3 road games, plus only 1 game left against a currently ranked team (home vs. MSU).
  13. Pointing out that the effort was really poor tonight is not embarrassing themselves.
  14. Remember how last year from December on, we won every single game against a good team. It's true look it up...every game. Now we've lost 3 of those types of games in the last WEEK. I think the injuries are finally catching up to us.
  15. Indiana will surely come back. Michigan started by hitting every 3 they took but we all know that won't last
  16. Like they are saying on RealGM, I see no reason why he would choose the Bulls over the Heat. In Chicago he'd be the 5th big man and get very little playing time unless there is an injury. In Miami, with a good showing he could start and play a big role in his championship run. Both teams are unlikely to offer (or can't offer) more than the minimum so its likely about who has the best chance of winning a title and who can offer the best role for him.
  17. I wonder if the board is going to obstruct the full outfield view of the people sitting just to the left of it.
  18. I don't follow recruiting on a day to day basis, but I thought OSU was having a very mediocre recruiting class. Did Meyer's 6 weeks of recruiting really bump them ahead of a good Michigan class and nearly into the top 5?
  19. Not too likely with free agency and the fact that the Rays are pretty much a small market. The Braves were never a huge market either. Back then, players didn't switch teams quite as often, but the trend was certainly on the rise. The Braves outbid the Cubs for Greg Maddux to secure their rotation for the next decade, so I'm pretty sure the situation was a bit different than Tampa.
  20. Not freaking out at all. It's not freaking out to suggest that we're in trouble if we don't play better. We are behind 3 other teams in the standings and all 3 teams are winning night almost every night while we are puttering around below .500 over the last 13 with a majority of home games. The reason I said we're in trouble is because we are struggling and now have 9 consecutive road games coming up (8 now). We need to have a really nice road trip to be within a few points of first at the end of the trip...maybe something like 6-2-1 or something, because I guarantee you that at least one of the 3 teams ahead of us will have a run like this. While I will say we played really well tonight in the last 2 periods, and maybe its what gets the inconsistent Hawks back to playing well. But its going to take 3 periods of playing well to beat some of the teams on this trip at their place. If they do this they will continue to contend for the division title. Not that this predicts the next 13 games, but just for fun, each team over the last 13 games: Nashville 11-2-0, 22 points Detroit 10-3-0, 20 points St. Louis 8-2-3, 19 points Hawks 5-5-3, 13 points
  21. I don't know why I watch this team anymore. I'm always extremely pissed off afterwards.
  22. Hawks completely dominate, get a crapload of awesome chances, and somehow only take a point from it. Unbelievable. I feel like we always lose in fricken OT lately. 5-5-3 in our last 13 games, 9 of which were at home. 4 points behind Detroit (even in games) 1 point behind Nashville (even in games) Tied with St. Louis (Blackhawks have played 2 extra games). We are in trouble.
  23. I am not sure how many more awesome chances the Hawks can fail to convert in one game. Part of it is bad luck but a lot of it is a fantastic game by Schneider. One of the best goalie performances we've seen this year. And we lose
  24. Well at least we've secured a point in a tough road environment. But we should have taken this ish in regulation if not for horrible luck and fantastic goaltending by Schneider.
  25. Just [expletive] horrible luck today. The puck was about 0.5 inches from going in as it grazed off the inside part of the iron. I swear we've had 7-8 chances where I'd say 50% of the time, a goal is scored, and we've failed on all of them. We'll probably lose this game in the last couple of minutes to to complete the punch in the gut.
