The Mariners are pitching a combined no-hitter through 8 innings right now. Millwood was the starter and went 6 innings before leaving with an injury suffered while warming up for the 7th inning. There have been 4 relievers involved since then. PS Combined no-hitters suck -

There are a few horse racing guys on the Score occasionally and from what I heard, that horse wasnt going to win the Belmont anyway, as he was supposedly not very good over long distances, and the reason why no horse can win the 3rd leg is because the Belmont is the longest of the 3 races by a decent amount.

But if Almora goes to school, couldnt the Cubs frame it as "we really like Almora but with the structure that the new CBA has put into place, it is impossible for us to meet Almora's asking price. Fortunately, with Almora going to school, we will have an extra 1st round pick next year which will contribute greatly to building the next Cubs world series title" or whatever. Its not the ideal scenario, like Raisin pointed out, but the Cubs could certainly spin it in a way that limits the public damage. There will be damage to the organization no doubt, but being able to use that 1st round pick next year is better than just losing it, and gives the Cubs a small amount of leverage in negotiations.

I don't think its a complaint as much as it is mocking the fact that the MLB supposedly made these rules partially so that players were drafted in order of talent and not signability. Everyone knew that wasn't going to happen going in, so there's no surprise that it didnt happen this way at all.

There is nothing ideal about that timeline. Nothing at all. lol I deleted ideally but then couldnt think of another way to start that sentence so i put it back in there. How about "The most likely scenario to compete in 2015, we'll finish 62-100...."

At this point I think Cubs fans should just accept 2015 as the year to look forward to. If we somehow start competing in 2014 then that's just a bonus. Plus although this year is terrible and next year will probably be more of the same without much improvement, even if we don't compete in 2014, we should see some clear improvement during that season, as I don't believe the FO is going to open up the check book to fill any holes we might have going into 2015 if the team finishes last in the MLB in 2014. Ideally this year we finish 62-100, next year 65-97, 2014 79-83 and then compete in 2015.

Weird thing about Wiseman from that fan graphs article. Not sure if its true but in the article it says: As one of the commentors then points out, Vandy doesn't have an undergraduate business school. They have a department of economics which is pretty good, but their only business school is their MBA program. Could it all be a bluff? Not that it matters because even if it was a bluff, I don't think he'll settle for 150K.

Has anyone really given a good breakdown of how teams have stratagized for this draft with the new rules? I was listening to a podcast with Kevin Goldstein and he called this draft an absolute complete failure and said the general strategy was to take top talent in rounds 1-5 and pay overslot if needed, and then draft a bunch of guys who should be going in rounds 11-15 in rounds 6-10 so that they can play them all 500k to ensure they remain within their draft budget. Is that really going to be the best draft strategy in this new draft? That said, I don't think the Cubs went this way. I admit I know almost nothing about the draft compared to a lot of you so I could definitely be wrong, but it seems like for the most part the Cubs drafted guys in the first 10 rounds that were expected to sign at slot, save one of two picks like Almora.

Definitely what SSR said. How can you not root for Prior? The guy was our future and in his very short time gave us so many awesome moments. Standing up to Bonds alone is worth rooting for him a decade later. I'll admit I wasn't really rooting for him much the first year or two after he left the Cubs because I didn't want him to resume being a Cy Young caliber ace immediately after leaving the Cubs and making us wonder what if. But its been so long that he can randomly become the most dominant pitcher in baseball for the next decade and I would love it.

If anyone wants a good laugh, check out this thread...the whole thing is a bit ridiculous but the first couple of posts are dumbfounding, even in the timeframe it was written. http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=964905 This from December of 2009 during Roses 2nd season when he started off a little slow coming off an ankle injury that kept him out of the entire preseason.

I...don't agree. Yeah, he was probably being a little conservative there. Congrats on the finals berth, though. It is impressive that the Celtics are doing so well against the Heat - Bosh or no Bosh - but they've had a very fortunate setup to the playoffs. Mediocre Atlanta team trying to work Horford back into the rotation with months off, mediocre Philly team that is only there because Rose died, and then a Heat team without Bosh. As far as getting to the Finals, it was either going to be Boston, Atlanta, Philly or a Rose and Noah-less Bulls team. Surviving from that group of teams is not exactly something to brag about. I will say that I am stunned they won game 5 and that opened my eyes a bit. And I know they are dealing with quite a few injuries too. But since we'll never know for sure and because I'm a bitter, depressed Bulls fan, I'm putting my homer cap on and saying the Bulls would have won in 5, maybe 6. I love you SSR

I would say "Typical Cubs. Win 10-0 one day and lose 8-0 the next" but scoring 10 runs in a game is anything but typical for the Cubs.

I do not think that much will happen until the draft. Right and free agency doesn't start until July 1 anyways. I love when free agency starts. Unlike the other sports, there is a huge flurry of signings the first couple days. Edit: come to think of it, the NFL is like that too but the other 2 sports are spread out more.
