  1. there was/is. fridays too. they made exceptions for this and the white sox series this year. And last year against the Giants. I'm guessing it might have something to do with Fox airing their games in prime time unlike years past. Rather weird to see a Friday day game followed by games on Saturday and Sunday night.
  2. Improve to 4-3 against Boston in the interleague era, and 3-1 at Wrigley.
  3. It's not the numbers man, he just doesn't pitch like an AL pitcher should.
  4. Wait...was that former Gritmaster SCOTT PODSEDNIK in the Red Sox OF? I didnt know he was still in baseball....much less starting for Boston.
  5. HOW EXCITING Corey Patterson with less power!
  6. Gotta think those AL East teams will be interested in seeing how Demp fares against Boston today. Not that it will make a huge deal but it certainly couldn't hurt to show up big today.
  7. I don't know if anyone posted this already but Cain's perfect game last night is tied for 2nd highest game score in MLB history (101) behind Wood's 105.
  8. Yeah that one is absolutely the best of the bunch. Like it alot. Those are fantastic and I hope they do something like that. However, I could do without the "Sunday Special" ones he proposes. That uniform doesnt need a comeback.
  9. This is frustrating....everytime OKC makes a run to get within 9-10, the crowd starts getting loud but the Thunder miss a couple shots, or turn the ball over, or miss a couple FTs and its back to 15 again. I think they've played this game since midway through the 2nd quarter. I keep waiting for the Thunder to get back in it.
  10. Are no hitters and perfect games becoming easier to pitch for whatever reason? Like I said yesterday, there are 20 perfect games in the 111 year World Series era of the MLB (at least since 1901 when the AL joined), a pace of roughly 1 every 5-6 years. Here is a breakdown of perfect games by decade: 00's: 2 10's: 0 20's: 1 30's: 0 40's: 0 50's: 1 60's: 3 70's: 0 80's: 3 90's: 4 00's: 2 10's: 4 (on pace for 13 this decade) So 7 in the first 78 years, and 13 in the next 32 years, with 5 in the last 4 seasons. No hitters are seeing a similar spike this decade. Although the pattern seems to be random, we are on pace for by far the most no hitters in a decade ever. 50's: 18 60's: 33 70's: 21 80's: 13 90's: 31 00's: 15 10's: 14 (on pace for 47 this decade) So just a 3-4 year fluke that will return to normal soon, or is the post-steroid era producing a more pitcher friendly game leading to more spectacular pitching performances including no hitters and perfect games?
  11. Of course. It doesn't hurt that our 3 home interleague opponents are the White Sox (obvious), Tigers (1/3rd of Chicago's population is from Detroit) and the Red Sox (annoying but travel in bunches)
  12. Well we scored 2 runs against Verlander. I'll call today a victory! Btw the Red Sox invasion is in full force downtown. Pink Red Sox caps everywhere. I overheard one of them crying about how bad their team is because they are .500 and this weekend will be to see which team is worse between the Cubs and Red Sox. BTW the Red Sox have not lost 90 games in a season since 1966 so [expletive] off Sox fans.
  13. Yay Jeff Garlin "Let me tell ya, you Tiger fans SUCK"
  14. Castro be slumping hardcore. .196/.212/.353/.565 in his last 12 games Down to .296 for the season.
  15. Remember when Valbueno hit Wrigley as an Indian?
  16. That jerk made almost 9 million while starving journalists like da bum toil away in poverty.
  17. Wow that was quite a shaky final play. Another perfect game. 22 perfect games in baseball history....5 in the last 3 seasons (should have been 6)
  18. This might be the worst thing ever written: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/13148193-573/cubs-season-gets-more-pathetic-with-firing-of-coach-rudy-jaramillo.html I know its written to get a response but still.
  19. The beat guys are saying that Valbuena is the most likely call up but it sounds like it's just speculation. Edit: Beaten
  20. AAA: 4.43 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 7.8 K/9 Majors: 2.81 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 As much as I want to make the pixie dust statement, these are PCL numbers we're talking about.
  21. You might as well ask why there are so many Detroit natives in Chicago. They are everywhere...possibly more than Wisconsinites. The Tigers fans do this at the Cell too.
  22. I just read on SBnation that Bill James said the most similar case to Starlin Castro's career so far is Gary Templeton. I really hope Castro doesn't go that route. But if you look at his career, he was a guy that started out at age 20, and hit for a high average his first 3-4 years with a couple of 200 hit seasons. However, he never developed the power he showed flashes of at the beginning of his career, and his OBP was always very poor. The result? A career OPS+ of 87. Starlin's power is already better than Templeton's ever was.
  23. I'm not saying he's an ace, and I don't think most people are treating him like such. His value is as a good number 2 on a contender, who has a history of pitching (well) in the playoffs and has had success in the supposed toughest division in baseball. He's relatively young and under your control for another year. He's not having the best year this year, but I don't see any reason why we won't get a top prospect for him if we play our cards right.
