  1. My favorite trophy breaking story was when Orson Charles, in Gainesville on a recruiting visit, dropped the trophy and it shattered. Later, he decided to commit to UGA. Not exactly the most adored person in Gainesville.
  2. Its supposed to be, but there's been little consistency with his rulings. Smith, while he did lie on the ice for several minutes (legit or not), he missed no time in that game, practiced fully inbetween games and played the entire game tonight. Shanahan even pointed out there was no injury sustained and Shaw had no prior history of illegal hits. But of course despite this Shaw gets 3 games. But all ranting aside, that should heavily play into whatever discipline he will get but like I said I am prepared for any ruling from Shanahan at this point. I wouldnt be surprised if he added 3 more games onto Shaws suspension because his hit forced Torres to have to retaliate. Sounds crazy but anything is possible with this tool running the show.
  3. I disagree there certainly alarmingly long stretches where Phoenix was dominating the Hawks but the Hawks had some good stretches as well just not sustained for as long. I'd say it was about 45% Phoenix, 35% Chicago, and 20% neither team had a particular edge at the moment.
  4. Shanahan will probably use the fact that Hossa drove himself home to say he's not injured and let him off with a fine. i'll be stunned if there's not a significant suspension. hagelin was suspended for 3 games in part for causing an injury to alfredsson, and it wasn't known at that stage if alfredsson would miss any time besides the rest of that game. hossa already missed most of a playoff game because of the charge. torres has a history of infractions. the replay clearly shows him launching upward, making contact with his feet off the ice, and the head is a primary point of contact. it's a clear suspension. i'm guessing 5 games. Yup, that all sounds very logical but unfortunately logic has not been one of the. Things Shanahan has used to determine punishments so far in the postseason. If it was, Weber would just be returning from his suspension and Shaw would be getting ready to go in Game 4. I agree that the most likely result by far is a long suspension for Torres but with the way things have gone down the last couple of weeks, I am ready for just about anything to happen, from a lifetime ban to suspending Hossa for utilizing a prop (stretcher) while attempting to sell an apparent injury.
  5. The Hawks did have more hits than Phoenix which is apparently pretty rare, only the 11th time they've done that all year. So it's apparent they were being more physical than they have been most of the year.
  6. i'm so glad that we've fallen so far from being relevant to the cup that we're saying things like "we have a chance" when we're playing a mediocre team in the first round of the playoffs. it sucks but what can you do except readjust your expectations. Whatever the Hawks had 2 years ago, its went away along with Ladd, Buff, Niemi, Sopel, etc. We're now a decent middle to low seed playoff team with the ability to win a series, maybe 2 at best. We have to just accept that the core we have has regressed to a certain degree, and the moves Bowman has made so far have been the wrong ones.
  7. The thing that pisses me off is that every time we tried to fight, we were the only ones that got a penalty. Bollig's penalty after Torres hit and then the scrum at the end of the 2nd where Toews got 2 minutes. It's insane, I'm not saying we should get calls because we're the home team but we certainly shouldnt be hosed like that. There are penalties that are not called every game for both sides, but this one certainly seemed to have a lot of calls missed favoring Phoenix. Just a terrible day all around for the Hawks. Shaw gets screwed because Shanahan wanted to make up for botching the Weber discipline, Hossa is nearly paralyzed with an intentional illegal hit by a scumbag and carried out in a stretcher, Hawks lose in OT on a goal that should not be allowed.
  8. Shanahan will probably use the fact that Hossa drove himself home to say he's not injured and let him off with a fine.
  9. Well it seems like the team that has an illegal hit against them ends up losing the game as well in both cases. [expletive] unfair...now watch Torres get 1 game or just a fine
  10. 7 goals in the first 3 games, and 2 of them with the goalie pulled in desperation. Not going to win if we fail at the one thing we are supposed to do well, score
  11. Well losing is not the end of the world, but it certainly gives Phoenix all the momentum. We've already proven we could win in their place, so as long as we win on Thursday we have a chance.
  12. tonight. Not [expletive] fair...maybe if we got a 5 minute major pp we would have won
  13. you'd have to go back to the 90's I think as they havent had any the last 4 years and I don't think they did when they played the Blues in 2001
  14. 9th time in the last 11 games that the Hawks have gone to OT. Also 5th straight playoff game decided in OT for the Hawks. Dammit Stallberg so close.
  15. Dammit it would have been amazing if Sharps shot went in as time ran out
  16. We need to get to the intermission so we can hopefully get back some momentum
  17. 34 games in between goals for Frolik.
  18. Dammit, they are dominating us pretty thoroughly
  19. holy [expletive] come on guys. what a deflating equalizer.
  20. FROLIK DOES SOMETHING!!!!!!!!
  21. And its tied. Hawks were asking for that for several minutes
  22. Well that's awesome to hear
  23. his head didn't bounce off the ice. i was looking for that. Hmm, thats just what I read on twitter. The exact comment said that his head snapped upon hitting the ice. You are probably right though.
  24. Apparently his head bounces back up as it hits the ice. That can't be good.
  25. stop turning the damn puck over in your own zone you idiots
