  1. Yup, that was an oft-repeated video whenever anyone wanted to illustrate the struggles of the 2004 Cubs.
  2. biggio got hit by a pitch, but i see your point. I guess I forgot the hbp, prob hit some part of Biggio's plastic armor set. I still think that one of the the top 5 pitching performances of all time. I just havent seen someone with that much movement on his pitches have that much command over them. The Astros were an offensive juggernaut in the heart of the steroid era and he made them look like the 2012 Cubs offense. He probably could have been just as dominant against that year's All-Star team.
  3. Riiiight that girl was you admit it.
  4. It's posted in the Wood thread in Cubs Discussions. www.desipio.com also has it posted on their front page.
  5. I have no idea what makes me and most Cubs fans adore Kerry Wood, but that made me really sad and at the same time happy to see him go out like that. I almost wish that Kerry could have finished the inning and gotten in a final AB in the bottom frame.
  6. Probably could have used that runner we left on 3rd last inning...
  7. Oh god, why can't his last appearance just be the 8th inning of a game we're leading or trailing by 5+ runs. No pressure, get all the applause, ride happily into the sunset.
  8. Considering how well we've been bunting this year....I'm gonna have to nix that idea.
  9. Let's bunt for a hit with the go ahead run on 3rd with 2 outs?
  10. maybe rubbing one out in the hot tub or taking a nap long odds say he's eating chicken and drinking beer in the clubhouse. Probably popping pills as well.
  11. lol, but that doesnt mean the decision wasnt stupid. I don't care how bad the pen is.
  12. Well when you have Shark due up next, its definitely a time to stay conservative on the basepaths.
  13. I think 2 and 2 for those makes a good deal of sense. They are all very close in proximity. Well the problem that he points out is that there are 10 teams that don't have natural rivalries, so we're bound to get Padres-Mariners or something. Plus HOW ARE THEY GOING TO DECIDE WHO WINS THE BP CUP??
  14. I'm reading on twitter that there are noticeable sections of empty seats at Wrigley. Is this true for those that are watching?
  15. He pitched one of the greatest games of all time, second all-time in K/9, 10th all-time in H/9, was a key part of some of the best Cubs teams in recent times and was a fan favorite(which I think matters for team honors). Just because he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame doesn't mean he wasn't an all-time great Cub. If they retire Kerry Wood's number, we will be a further laughingstock. I would say the following people would have a better claim to get their number retired by the Cubs: Sammy Sosa Mark Grace Lee Smith And maybe: Carlos Zambrano Ryan Dempster Aramis Ramirez No one is going to laugh if we retire Wood's number. In a world where the Heat have retired MJ's number, the Rays have retired Boggs' number and the Indians have ensured that no player will ever wear the number 455 for them again, the retiring number thing is not that meaningful to fans of other teams.
  16. Jayson Stark has an inside look at how the interleague schedule is supposed to play out. He says that apparently the plan is likely to be 4 "rivalry" games played during 1 week, 2 games at one stadium follow by 2 at the other one. Not bad, but I'd rather just have the 3 games. Other info: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/rumblings120518/mlb-2013-interleague-schedule-huge-step-right-direction
  17. I hear ya. I have Konerko and am already dealing with Ellsbury, Street, Cespedes, and David Robertson on the DL plus I had to drop Brian Wilson when he went out for the year.
  18. It is possible for someone who has only been around for half of NSBB's history to have posted in 75% of the board's threads?
  19. Yup, I'm pulling up pairs and sets of 4 all over the park. The cheapest seats are $32 and I just pulled up 4 in a row.
  20. That's silly....either you retire his number or you give it out to anyone that requests it. I can understand maybe waiting 5 years before distributing that number, but usually teams only do that for players that they plan on retiring at some point in the future.
  21. The whole situation is really weird the more I think about it. Wood is going to pitch 1 more time in his career...it could come today, it could come next Tuesday, but apparently Sveum said he's not going to force Wood into the game.
  22. Kinda funny that he wants to pitch one last time before ending his career. Reminds me slightly of 2005 when he had that injury he had to have surgery on, but couldnt do any more damage by pitching on it, so he came out and pitched one last time in relief and then ended his season with surgery.
  23. This dude has his number retired: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/reeseji01.shtml Plus there are numbers retired for Gene Autry, August Busch Jr, and Carl Barger (1st president of the Marlins). Not to mention the Indians retired the number 455 in honor of the fans. So in summary, not even close. Edit: Heres another one....played 88 total major league games and finished with 9 wins: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/u/umbriji01.shtml And this dude is almost even with Kerry Wood on B-R's ELOrater. He's 314 and Kerry is 316 http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wilsodo01.shtml
  24. Sorry it had to end like this Woody.
