  1. why? There's no point in midnight. At least later in the day than 3pm. I remember sitting in the drive-thru at a Steak-n-Shake when the Nomar deal happened. Now, I'm just stuck in my office, pretending to work, while watching twitter/nsbb. The deadline was exactly the same during the Nomar deal. It was on a Saturday in 2004, so thats why he remembers being out of work.
  2. The Central should be pretty interesting this year. It will probably be a battle between the Pacers and the Bulls (if the Bulls can stay healthy), with the Cavs as a darkhorse. The Pistons will be....interesting at least, and the Bucks are much less interesting but whatever.
  3. When he comes on the radio I change channels. What a miserable guy. At least he has a reason to be miserable lately with PFT shutting down.
  4. Three weeks ago, they finished a road sweep of the White Sox. Wow, I'm an idiot. I don't blame you for not counting/remembering a 2 game series whose games were played over a month apart from each other. Anyways, last road sweep of 3 or more games was last September vs. Pittsburgh.
  5. I forgot about CC until just now
  6. He's also a shortstop who may hit 40HR. The rarity of that is just ridiculous. Unfortunately he's a SS who may not get on base 30% of the time. The rarity of that, unfortunately is not ridiculous. A lot of very good hitters start getting pitched around eventually, and that's where the walks come from. Alfonso Soriano says Hi. Strangely enough, when Soriano had his best season (by far) his walk rate exploded
  7. Shades of Pat Kane taping in a goal that was already going in. Sorry I'm still in hockey mode :)
  8. Pitchers today: 3-3 Rest of the teams: 1-27
  9. Soriano was 4-5 with a HR and 3 RBI today, including a walkoff single. Good to see him still on the tail end of his hot streak.
  10. Not used to seeing Soldier Field grass so green
  11. Cubs are 35-35 in their last 70 games (Since May 5)
  12. Waddle and Silvy feel betrayed
  13. So in retrospect, should we have gotten better players in the Feldman and Marmol trades, as opposed to international pool money? I get that it saves us quite a bit in penalty money, but the Cubs don't seem to be concerned with what they are spending this year in the international market.
  14. Just for fun, every player's (except Stewart) best season between 2005-2008. Hafner - .308/.439/.659/1.097 5.9 (MVP-8) Jeter - .343/.417/.493/.900 5.5 (AS MVP-2) Ichiro - .351/.396/.431/.827 5.8 (AS MVP-8) ARod - .314/.422/.645/1.067 9.4 (AS, MVP-1) Cano - .306/.353/.488/.841 6.7 (AS MVP-22) Soriano - .277/.351/.560/.911 6.1 (AS MVP-6) Granderson - .302/.361/.552/.913 7.6 (MVP-10) Teixeira - .306/.400/.563/.963 4.6 Wells - .303/.357/.542/.899 6.2 (AS MVP-22) Youkilis - .312/.390/.569/.958 6.3 (AS MVP-3) Overbay - .312/.372/.508/.880 3.2 Sabathia 6.3 (AS CY-1 MVP-14) Pettitte 6.8 (CY-5 MVP-24) Kuroda 2.7 Rivera 4.3 (AS CY-3 MVP-9)
  15. Stat of the day: Since June 28th, Alfonso Soriano has hit 10 HRs. The Yankees have hit 8.
  16. Yeah this will be terrible for our playoff push
  17. I think the only thing that's holding it up is the commissioners approval (because more than $1 mil changed hands) and a signed document that says Soriano waived his 10/5. It's very unlikely the commissioner rejects it so its pretty much a formality at this point and even Theo/Jeds trend for having seemingly complete deals improbably fall through can't derail this.
  18. The ESPN article said he took batting practice and is in uniform. I presume he'll be on the bench.
  19. Yeah wasn't a big fan of soriano but came around on him last couple of seasons. Will miss his month long tears 1-2 times a year and his interactions with the fans in LF. will remember him for things like his inexplicable run of throwing out runners at home in 2007, his extra innings grand slam against the Astros putting us temporarily in 1st in 2009, that one series against the Braves in either 07 or 08 where he hit like 10 HRs. I will also remember his failings in the playoffs, that dropped routine fly ball that lost a game in Pittsburgh, and the eternal image of him helplessly flailing at a breaking ball.
  20. Q agreed to an extension per ESPN 1000
  21. Hmm didn't realize the new rule where the 2013 and 2015 Gold Cup champions will play for a spot in the 2017 Confed Cup. Gives me something additional to cheer for on Sunday. Good rule change.
  22. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-soriano-accepting-of-a-possible-trade-20130724,0,2636040.story you know he already approved it right Whoops I do now!
  23. If Soriano is traded, that would leave Shark as the only current Cub to play in a playoff game with the team, and him and Gregg would be the only Cubs to play for a +500 Cubs team.
