  1. 2 run double. 3 would be very impressive. Was just about to ask how that was possible.
  2. We're back to being horribly unlucky. Meh the Dodgers could have had 3-4 HRs already if the wind wasn't blowing in hard.
  3. It's getting to the point where it's having a detrimental effect on the organization to keep the team in Daytona
  4. It's really not all that tough to deal with.
  5. 6-4 West Coast road trip. Come home and start a 10 game home stand 1-6 if we don't come back today.
  6. And the Cubs are....playing at exactly the pace they were projected at (74-88).
  7. Don't really agree with him that the Lovie firing was bound to be poorly received, but w/e. Not sure if I'm as sold on Emery as Barnwell is, but this was a good read at least.
  8. I beg to differ. They are exceptionally fun bad! I love it every day! Yeah, this is enjoyable. Apparently they haven't been this bad since 1980, so this is the worst White Sox team in my lifetime. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it. The Sox have always been competitive. 2007? They've had just as many playoff appearances in the past 20 years as have the Cubs. Granted, it's pathetic for both sides of town, but they haven't been exponentially, 2005 withstanding, better than the Cubs in our lifetime (assuming early 80's on). Yeah but we have more in the last 15 years 00-05-08 vs. 98-03-07-08 so HA
  9. The best part is they are kind of doing this halfass rebuild, and are kind of straddling the line between a complete gut of the team, and entertaining dreams of competing next year. Their farm system sucks, their offense sucks, their management sucks. They might be bad (or at best mediocre) for awhile.
  10. Poor Royals...win 9 in a row but still 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot because Cleveland has won 8 in a row, and the first place Tigers have won 5 in a row themselves. Hope the Royals can somehow keep going and make the playoffs. Would be odd to see them and Pittsburgh get in during the same season.
  11. Haha: http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/0801/nfl_e_hernandezletter11_300.jpg http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/9530307/aaron-hernandez-proclaims-innocence-letter-pen-pal
  12. Insane to project a 16 year old, but if he actually becomes the elite talent we hope he is, whats the likeliest year we can project him to make the majors? 2017-2018 ish?
  13. Rank of NL teams in terms of most hated to least 1. Cardinals 2. Brewers 3. Marlins (03 and Loria) 4. Diamondbacks (07 and their stupid uniforms) 5. Dodgers (hate them for 08, mannywood and their stupid spending abilities canceling out Colletti) 6. Reds (rising since they're actually good now) *Where the Astros would have gone* 7. Mets (for nostalgia stake, Victor Diaz and not being able to beat the Cardinals in 06) 8. Giants (89 and the Bonds era, and their 2 out of nowhere world series winners) 9. Phillies (hate them for winning the world series the year we had the best record in the NL) 10. Padres (too young for 84, but will still hate them and their depressed hitting ballpark) 11. Braves (98 and getting to enjoy Maddux's prime) 12. Rockies (Meh) 13. Pirates (will probably hate them more in a couple of years) 14. Nationals (who can hate the old expos?)
  14. Rizzo back up to .787 OPS. Would like to see him at least get to .820 or so by the end of the year.
  15. So basically some patience and luck on balls in play and we're a good offense
  16. In case anyone else cares about this sort of thing:
  17. I don't think any of the other candidates (Dejesus, Nate, Russell) are likely to pass through waivers. It's possible they get claimed and the Cubs work out a trade though I guess.
  18. I'm assuming this is just Sullivan trolling us a bit, but its at least worth discussion. Do we really expect the Cubs payroll to be under $75 million next year? I'm assuming that $75 million figure doesn't include paying Soriano though, so it would be a little higher. $75 million seems way too low for a team that fans are expecting to take the step to respectability next year. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0801-2014-cubs-chicago-20130801,0,5504726.story
  19. That doesn't sound like a guy that plans on letting the franchise QB go anywhere to me. http://mmqb.si.com/2013/07/31/phil-emery-3q/ So basically, Mike Tice was getting fired no matter what, and Lovie and Jay didn't have a great relationship.
  20. The offense was so streaky that year, and it seemed to go dry the last week of the season. Other than that, I have no [expletive] clue. We were up 1.5 games with 9 games left, playing 2 against the hapless Mets, 4 against the hapless Reds, and 3 against the Braves who were resting for the playoffs. Against the Mets it was LaTroy Hawkins blowing it, then the offense not showing up that sunday. Against the Reds, the Cubs just stopped scoring and lost 3 of 4 despite great pitching performances. In one game Sosa came up with the bases loaded and missed a grand slam by inches, in another Prior struck out 16 guys and Hawkins blew the save. Also Austin Kearns. Also the Astros finished by winning 31 of their last 39 games and finished 3 games ahead of us.
  21. It was reported as being worked on all day and officially announced an hour after the deadline. Who reported that it was being worked on with the Cubs? It came out of nowhere. Nomar wasn't even informed until 3:45pm that he was traded. Bruce Levine was talking about Nomar to the Cubs in early July and it was being talked about plenty on message boards (mostly dismissively). It didn't come out of nowhere. Yeah it was definitely discussed here, and you are right, most people dismissed the rumors and thought there was no chance it was happening, mostly because people didn't think the Red Sox would ever deal Nomar.
  22. Yeah I remember listening to the radio at 3:00 and hearing nothing was happening, then accepting that the Cubs didnt do anything, and then getting a text from a friend of mine who is a Red Sox fan saying "Wow, enjoy Nomar" like 30-45 mins later. Sad that the Nomar trade didnt work out because that was one of the greatest moments that I've had as a Cubs fan.
