  1. Not only does he not get fired like pretty much everyone predicted prior to the season, but he gets job security.
  2. If it's true, I'd guess it's being announced at the convention. I'm going with them saving the Tanaka announcement til the convention. That's my story, and you can all pat me on my back when it's true. Or point and laugh when it's not. I doubt it. Considering they have a deadline next week, I'm assuming they are going to give the interested teams all the time they need to negotiate and submit their best bid.
  3. What? If given a choice to move to a place like LA or New York, athletes will rarely choose Chicago. It's why I think it's hilarious that the Bulls are actually trying to clear cap space to lure big time free agents again. It won't work. The last time a Chicago team was able to lure a big time free agent (Soriano), we had to blow every other team out of the water in terms of dollars and years. Peppers could be considered a major free agent, but I have no idea what his market was like. I disagree. Players frequently come to Chicago in baseball, football and hockey. Basketball is much more superstar oriented and is also a winter sport, and because of that stars want to play in glamorous locations like LA, Florida, New York. I'm trying to even think of major FAs that the Cubs and Sox have aggressively went after. Albert Belle?
  4. Sesmic? Is Billy Joel putting on weight again?
  5. Will one of you guys spill the beans if its a month from now and its clear whatever the news is isnt happening?
  6. Probably, but with the Nets and Knicks starting to actually play well and the Bulls with the 2nd toughest schedule remaining among Eastern Conference teams, a backslide wouldn't completely shock me. I'd put their odds at about 85%.
  7. As a counterpoint, one would think you could pretty easily point to the Dominican Academy, the spending to penalties in IFA and up to penalties in the draft, the growth in headcount in the FO, the Bloomberg tech they're licensing for video, etc. I honestly have no idea what Passan is talking about if he's not talking about MLB payroll. Well the comment was that they aren't getting the budget they expected. So while the Cubs are spending in those areas, perhaps the FO was led to believe the budget was even higher than what they have?
  8. Quasi-Bears related: Failed 3rd round pick Brandon Hardin signed with the Jets it looks like.
  9. I really wish Kyle would have held out on Tim for something good. We could have FDB with this news.
  10. I think people that are freaking out are bored of the regular season and are finding ways to emotionally connect with it.
  11. Can't we just get rid of the point after a tie in regulation? How would that effect things? I hate watching the last 5-6 minutes of intraconference games that are tied. Not that they are halfassing it but both teams are taking absolutely no risks and playing everything safe to preserve the guaranteed point.
  12. Interesting. Things have been really quiet on the Wrigley renovation front. What if they have been secretly looking over other sites and have decided to go that way. ok ok unlikely, but what kind of enormous news could there really be that doesn't involve a player move and that would shock us.
  13. I PM'd Tim and one other poster with the request that they not share the info or acknowledge that I told them (which I guess we can negate now because I'd like to head this off before it turns on me completely). Since it's negated... it was me. You all can shower me with attention in hopes that I'll budge and share this amazing nugget of information. I'll bite. In your opinion is this news as big as kyle has made it out to be?
  14. Kyle. That would be hilarious
  15. Yeah I'm not worried. It's a little [expletive] that they might to have to be the road team in the 2nd round against St. Louis and potentially in the 3rd round against Anaheim unless they do their annual playoff collapse but overall I'm just happy they are doing this well overall considering the short offseason, potential for cup hangover, olympics distractions, etc. You say "road team" as if they will only play on the road. The president's trophy/Stanley Cup run was nice last year, but 2nd/3rd seeds can just as easily make a run. They'll have plenty of home games and can win on the road. I know, that's why I said it's a little shitty, not devastating to their chances. I don't mind being the road team, especially a team as battle tested as them. I like knowing that if your team can win 1 of the 2 road games to start the series, the odds immediately shift in their favor.
  16. DePaul wins consecutive conference games for the first time in 6 years. Put it this way, the last time DePaul won 2 big east games in a row, the Cubs were a month away from begging their 97 win NL Central championship season.
  17. Yeah I'm not worried. It's a little shitty that they might to have to be the road team in the 2nd round against St. Louis and potentially in the 3rd round against Anaheim unless they do their annual playoff collapse but overall I'm just happy they are doing this well overall considering the short offseason, potential for cup hangover, olympics distractions, etc. I do find it funny to hear meatballs calling into the score ripping the Hawks struggles in OT/SO as if it means anything once the postseason arrives. The only major gripe to have about this team is their PK and sometimes their goalie.
  18. Who is Ty anyways? I've never heard of him.
  19. That's crazy. The Bears haven't played in a road playoff game since 1994, but they have only made the playoffs in 4 seasons since then and played in 7 games (pathetic).
  20. What is that 5 losses in 6 games, 4 of them coming in OT/SO?
  21. I don't know. I just assume we're going to lose when we get to OT. Edit: I posted this before we lost
  22. If Kyle disappears forever we know what decision he made
  23. What would get em jazzed at Cubs Con would be for, after announcing the line of prospects that all walk down the carpet and greet the fans. Have Pat Hughes announce in his usual smirky style. The he wants to announce the newest Chicago Cub. Let's give him a big hand. Masahiro Tanaka!! WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah but they already said it's not a player acquisition. It's gotta either be: 1) news about TV deal 2) settling with the rooftops to begin construction for whatever they can still do or something related to rennovation 3) Clark left because his planet needed him but was killed on his way home.
